“But what do you want? You’re already
so successful,” said Anna, slightly breathless.

Happiness. Love.
Passion,” Brian said calmly, “To meet someone who really excites
me, who challenges me, who brings out the best in me.” He leaned in
so close that his legs were now next to Anna’s, touching. The
tension was too much for her to bear. She put her hand down on the
bar, and Brian took it. He looked her in the eyes and said, “And I
think I’ve met her.”

Anna and Brian made it into the
elevator and immediately began to kiss passionately. Brian pressed
Anna up against the wall with his body, leaning into her and
running his hands through her hair. As the doors opened, he grabbed
her hand and led her into his hotel room. Anna could hardly contain
herself. She hadn’t felt this way in years.

Brian slid onto the bed as the door
closed behind them, and Anna lay down on top of him, continuing
their kiss. His lips were so smooth and his tongue was so
delicious, Anna didn’t think she could ever get enough. She slid
her hand under his shirt to feel his hard, toned abs. Brian smiled
and sat up slightly, taking his shirt off altogether. “Wow,” Anna
said lamely, admiring his perfect body.

“You too!” he said, unbuttoning Anna’s
blouse. He stopped and admired her. “You’re beautiful,” he said,
kissing her neck and chest. Then he removed her skirt. And then,
his pants. They rolled over on the bed, still kissing, touching.
Anna’s hands explored Brian’s body: his toned arms, his broad
chest, and his muscular legs. He continued to caress her, running
his finger down her spine and then gently touching her inner
thighs.

“I want you,” Anna managed to whisper.
They made love, and time seemed to stand still. Anna couldn’t tell
whether hours or minutes passed by, but she was in pure
ecstasy.

The next morning, Anna woke up to
Brian’s fingers running through her hair. She rolled over, and he
was lying next to her, smiling. “Last night was amazing,” he said,
“You’re really something, Anna.”

Anna could feel the big, dumb grin
spreading across her face, and she nestled in closer, kissing Brian
lightly on the lips. “We need to get ready,” she said, looking at
the clock.

“No,” said Brian, turning the clock
the other way. “We have time.” He smiled slyly, and then got on top
of Anna, kissing her again as he’d kissed her that night. She felt
her mouth melting into his, and they made love again, but this time
more slowly, gazing into each other’s’ eyes throughout, bursting at
the seams with raw passion.

After another blissful completion,
Anna finally dragged herself out of bed and into the shower. Brian
was right behind her, splashing water on her playfully. “Turn
around,” he instructed her, and massaged shampoo into her long, wet
hair. His fingers massaging her scalp felt so good that Anna never
wanted to leave the shower, but by now the meeting was quickly
approaching, and they had to get ready in a hurry.

Brian’s presentation went by in a blur
for Anna. Although she sat taking notes, her mind was in another
world completely. Luckily, Brian seemed to be doing well, and at
the end of the meeting, Sarah and Mike stood to say they’d be
signing the contract, with the whole AMH team in agreement behind
them.

Anna and Brian shook hands, said
goodbyes, and then headed straight to the airport to catch their
flight home. Brian squeezed Anna’s hand as they sat next to each
other in the airplane. He ordered a bottle of champagne, “Time to
celebrate!” He added, “You know, this might not have happened
without you, Anna. I had my doubts that they would go for the
three-year contract. Having the support of Sarah and Mike was
essential, and you really won them over at dinner.”

Anna smiled and clinked her glass
against Brian’s, but as their plane descended, her mind began to
race. What was going to happen back at the office? Would Brian want
to start a relationship with her? She hoped so. It hadn’t felt like
just sex to her. She felt like they had something special and she
hoped that Brian felt the same way. But was it too soon to say
something? After all, Brian was her boss, and she knew that they’d
entered messy territory. She was pretty sure that a boss and an
employee were not allowed to date. But after their night and
morning together, she couldn’t imagine NOT being with Brian. She
wanted him so badly. No, she needed him.

The next few weeks could not have gone
any better. The very next day after they returned, a Saturday,
Brian called Anna and asked her out to dinner. He came to her house
to pick her up, and was a perfect gentleman meeting her parents.
They’d been a little skeptical at first, but from the moment he met
them, he won them over with his manners and grace.

Anna had figured that Brian was rich
because, obviously, he was the CEO of the company, and also from
their flight and hotel accommodations in Chicago, but on their
dates it really began to sink in just how much money Brian had. He
took her to fancy, expensive restaurants that she never would have
dreamed of going to, surprised her with beautiful jewelry, and even
sometimes had a chauffeur drive them. It was a whole new world to
Anna, and she had to admit that she was enjoying every moment of
it.

But she appreciated the little things
even more than the expensive gifts and dates. It was the random
texts throughout the day while she was at work with messages like
“Thinking of you, beautiful,” and just being around Brian, and the
way he looked at her. Anna had never experienced this much romance
and passion in a relationship, but she was finding out that this is
exactly what she’d always wanted, and what had been missing in her
past.

Anna and Brian had agreed they
wouldn’t tell anyone at work about their budding relationship just
yet. Anna felt relieved about this—she hadn’t told Brian that her
coworkers didn’t exactly have the best opinions of him. She didn’t
really feel like being hounded with questions, not yet at least, so
she was happy to keep their relationship to themselves. Well, and
her family and close friends of course. Macy had at first been
shocked, and then thrilled to find out, and she insisted that Anna
send her pictures of every gift and of every date she and Brian
went on.

And then there was the sex. Anna had
thought it couldn’t get any better than that first night and
morning in Chicago, but every time, she was blown away. Their
passion only seemed to grow more and more intense, and she couldn’t
get enough. Every time she saw Brian, she had to restrain herself
from ripping his clothes right off his body. Sometimes while they
were out having dinner, she could tell just from a certain look
that he gave her that he wanted her just as badly. They would
always go back to his house and make love for hours. Anna had never
felt so wanted, and so satisfied. It was like a dream.

In addition to their physical
compatibility, Anna and Brian had great conversations. She felt
herself opening up more and more, and they talked about almost
everything: their families, their friends, their dreams and goals
in life. The one thing they didn’t talk about any more, beyond what
they’d discussed in Chicago, was their past relationships. Anna was
glad about this; she knew that Brian had been with Melissa for a
long time so they must have had something special, at least for a
while, and she knew that dwelling any more on this would only make
her jealous. Besides, she didn’t want to dwell on her own past
either. She could see her future coming together now, and she
couldn’t be any more excited.

Weeks passed in romantic
bliss. Soon, the weekend of Anna’s 26
th
birthday was upon them. 26,
she thought to herself, I can’t believe how time is flying. She had
insisted that Brian didn’t need to get her anything or plan
anything elaborate; she’d be happy just to spend time together. But
she wasn’t completely surprised when he told her to keep the
weekend open for a little birthday getaway.

She was surprised, however, when Brian
drove her to the airport and boarded his private plane. “You have a
plane?”

“Yes, I do,” said Brian like it was no
big deal, “Let’s go, this weekend is going to fly by,” he added
with a sly smile.

“Where are we going?” asked Anna,
glowing with excitement now.

“You’ll see!” said Brian, squeezing
her hand as he helped her board the little plane.

Anna felt like they were in a movie as
they soared over California. They flew over city, then desert, and
she could tell they were somewhere in Southern California. Then
they were over the ocean, and descending.

“Alright, I’ll tell you now,” Brian
said with his arm around Anna, “We’re spending the next two nights
on Catalina Island. They have a new resort there that I think the
birthday girl will enjoy.”

Anna was floored; she’d never had
anyone do something like this for her, nor had she ever expected
it. “You didn’t have to do this!”

“I wanted to. You deserve it. Besides,
I love seeing that smile,” said Brian, kissing her gently on the
lips and making Anna’s smile grow even bigger.

“I didn’t bring a swimsuit!” Anna
suddenly realized. After all, how could she have known that they
were going to an island resort?

Brian’s sly smile returned to his
face. “Macy helped me with that,” he explained, “I got her number
from your phone one night when you were over, and I texted her and
asked her to get a bag of your clothes and swimsuits together. She
must have done it one of the times you had her over your house, and
you didn’t even know it! She’s good.” He pulled a bag Anna hadn’t
noticed before from under his seat, unzipped it, and pulled out one
of Anna’s bikinis. “Actually this vacation is pretty selfish of me;
I just want to see you in this.” He winked at her, “And out of
it.”

Anna’s heart soared. She loved the
thought of her new man and her best friend, teaming up to give her
the perfect birthday weekend. She felt so special, and all warm and
fuzzy inside. She was really falling in love.

They spent the rest of the day
lounging by the resort pool, ordering drinks and snacks. The resort
was exquisite, and they ate dinner at the restaurant there
overlooking the ocean. Everything was perfect down to the brilliant
pink and orange sunset reflecting upon the water as they
ate.

They spent the next day out on the
water in Brian’s yacht. Yes, of course he has a yacht, too, Anna
thought to herself. She still couldn’t quite get over how much
money Brian had. She never thought she’d experience anything like
it.

“Anna,” Brian said, taking her hand as
they sat on the deck of the yacht, looking out across the ocean,
“the past couple of months with you have been amazing. When I’m
around you, I’m not the grumpy guy who’s obsessed with work like I
have been for the past few years. No, in fact I’m the happiest I’ve
ever been. You make me feel so great, and I want to be around you
all the time. Anna,” he paused, and smiled, “I know it’s soon to
say this, but I’m madly in love with you. You’re so beautiful, so
smart, and you just radiate light and happiness. I love
you.”

Anna beamed. She felt the same way,
and it felt amazing to hear it coming from Brian. “I love you too!”
she exclaimed, “Nobody has ever made me feel this way, so happy, so
wanted. I love being around you and I love you.”

They leaned in and kissed. The kiss
turned into more, as it often did, and they went into the bedroom
inside the yacht and made love. Afterwards, they lay there for a
while, kissing and caressing each other, before finally bringing
themselves to dress again and go back on the deck. As they stepped
back out, a family of dolphins swam by, playfully jumping out of
the water. They stood, arms around each other, watching the
dolphins swim off into the distance. Anna couldn’t have imagined
such a beautiful moment.

That night at dinner, Brian announced
that he had something else to tell her. “Now you have to
understand, this is because of YOU, not because of me,” he started,
and Anna had no clue what was coming. “You’ve been doing a
fantastic job at work. Julie and I had a long conversation about
this the other day. Your skills aren’t being fully utilized as an
assistant. You’re so great at working with our clients; Julie and I
think it would benefit the whole company to have you in a more
client-facing position. How would you feel about being a project
manager?”

Anna was stunned, “But I don’t want to
move up just because I’m dating you; that would be unfair to
everyone else,” she reasoned. She wanted to make sure she did the
right thing.

Brian smiled. “See, I knew you’d be
way too humble about this. Like I said, this is completely because
of your great work and to utilize all your skills. It’s for the
good of the company,” he winked, “so how could you say
no?”

Anna beamed, “I guess I can’t say no.
I would love to be a project manager! I just didn’t think it would
happen so soon. Thank you.”

“No,” Brian corrected, “thank YOU. One
more thing,” he continued, “You won’t be reporting to me anymore.
And that means that we can finally be open about our relationship
without it being any kind of problem. It will be great having it in
the open. I want the whole world to know you’re mine.” They kissed,
finished their meal, and then retreated to their room for another
amazing night of passion.
