“No, I’m fine, we’re fine. Why are you back so soon?”

“I saw the asshole’s car around the corner and took a wild guess that he was headed here.” He’d stood outside the door and listened instead of busting down the door right away, because he knew she needed to face her past once and for all without his input.

But when the asshole started getting pushy he had to step in. “Let’s go.” He grabbed her hand and headed for the door.

“Where are we going?”

“To the police station to make a complaint and get the ball rolling on that restraining order. And before you say anything to me remember my kid is inside you. I’m not taking any chances with that asshole losing his mind and coming after you.” He’d heard enough to know the guy was unraveling. Though he wasn’t about to trust a piece of paper with her safety, at least it was a step in the right direction.

Chapter 21

***

The next few months were a whirlwind of activity. Her morning sickness had disappeared at the start of her second trimester. The house was completely furnished thanks to Kyle threatening everyone to get his way, and the wedding was in two days. Surprisingly, she was calm and relaxed while her husband to be had completely lost it.

“Kerryanne, get down from there are you nuts?” She rolled her eyes and stepped down from the mini ladder. She’d climbed up to fix the corner of the curtain thinking he was busy in his new home office. The man was a tyrant. Every afternoon, he made her take a nap whether she needed one or not. He made her breakfast lunch and dinner because the smell of food still made her nauseous, and he was like a bodyguard whenever they left the house.

They hadn’t seen or heard from Paul since that day at the old apartment. The restraining order seemed to be working well and she had outgrown her fear. Then again Kyle was never too far away so no one had the opportunity to get to her.

They’d had quite a few visitors since moving in. BBQs every weekend, with some of her old friends, and some new ones. She was surprised at how deferential everyone treated Kyle, how they were all always asking him for ideas and his opinion on investments.

She was very proud to be the woman on his arm, and even though a few of them had shied away after the divorce, none of these had been outright rude to her. Funnily enough none of the ones who’d been awful were ever invited. She didn’t know how, but somehow Kyle knew who was who.

“What were you doing up there?” He put his hands on his hips and scowled and she dared not laugh. “I was fixing the curtain.”

“Really, that’s worth you breaking your damn neck? Why didn’t the idiot people who hung them make sure they were right?” The man’s a bear. It’s a wonder he’d been able to keep any kind of staff this long. Though she’d met his assistant on one of their trips to Chicago and she sung his praise.

“It’s okay Kyle, it was just a tiny little fold that needed straightening out. Why don’t we take our walk along the water?” She figured it best to distract him before he blew a gasket.

“Fine, when are they coming?” ‘They’ were the wedding planners, caterers and designers. She’d conned him into letting her have the wedding right here at home instead of at some ritzy digs in Chicago. She’d caught on to the fact that once she had him locked inside her she could get away with anything.

Kyle wasn’t too pleased by this turn of events, seeing as how he was a manly man who was always in control, but what could he do? she had him wrapped around her little finger, the sneak.

He took her hand and led her out the backdoor down to the beautifully landscaped lawn. It was one of their favorite things to do in their new home.

The place was a showpiece and there wasn’t much that had needed doing since it was only a few years old, other than painting the inside in the colors of her choice. Kyle had insisted.

In a few hours, it would be transformed into a magical fairyland. “Soon, they’ll be here soon.” She looked at the overly expensive watch she now wore on her wrist. “Your mom should be back from gramps’ soon to help me give orders.” And she was very good at it.

You’d think a man like Kyle had followed in his dad’s footsteps. That he’d inherited that staunch no nonsense attitude from those male genes, but no. It had only taken Kerry one meeting to know who really called the shots in the family.

Something else that Kyle despaired of, was the fact that his mom was fond of teaching her all her tricks. She’d proclaimed within the first hour of meeting that since Kerry didn’t have a mother or father, that she and her husband will now be fulfilling those roles. And she’d been true to her word ever since. Even down to arguing with her the way she did with her son.

The men usually rolled their eyes and escaped the vicinity whenever the two of them got together, because as they said, nothing good ever comes of it. Kyle was just wary of the fact that whenever his dear old mom was left alone with his girl for more than two minutes some shit in his life was always about to change.

“You sure this is what you want? I can still call the hotel and…” She was sure he was probably one of the only people on earth who could call at the last minute and rent out the whole venue and get his way, but she was more than happy to have their big day right here.

“No, this is perfect, and it’s free.”

“Kerryanne!” She kissed his cheek to placate him. The man had no respect for money. Something she’d learned her whole life since she’d always had to scrimp and save.

True to his word, he’d opened her account in her name then proceeded to add her to his. She was now the proud owner of more designer wear than it was possible for her to wear in this lifetime. She had jewelry, shoes, bags, even her makeup was now compliments of the best manufacturer there was. And if that wasn’t enough, he had these people come to her instead of her having to travel.

He was still under the delusion that she was somehow incapacitated because she was carrying his child. She was embarrassed in the beginning at all the largesse, she didn’t want people thinking she was putting on airs. But Kyle didn’t give a fig, which was putting it nicely.

“When mom and the others get here I do not want you overdoing it you hear. You just tell them what you want, better yet let the dictator do it, you just sit in your chair and direct.”

“You better stop calling your mom that, she’s going to brain you again.” He rubbed the back of his head where she’d got him the last time.

“I don’t care what that old lady does. If she lets you do too much there’s going to be hell to pay.” He muttered some other choice words under his breath that made her grin. His mom was the only one who could rein him in, other than her, she was learning fast.

In the end, once the delivery trucks started pulling down the driveway, the two of them got him out of the way by having his dad, gramps and the boys drag him off fishing in the pond that was on the other side of the property-since the lake was going to be part of the wedding scenery.

She spent a glorious day knee deep in wedding plans, so unlike the first one she’d had. The place was almost entirely covered with her favorite colors of turquoise and pink with silver mixed in. She’d thought the colors too much for a wedding. But once Kyle learned they were her favorite colors, he refused to hear of anything else.

Kerry had been expecting some bunting, maybe a few ribbons tied around trees and some streamers strewn around the place. No, this was beyond anything she’d ever seen even in magazines. They’d transformed the back lawn that led down to the water into a reception hall a Rani would envy.

She’d never seen turquoise roses before, but the florist her mother in law had helped her find was some sort of magician. If Kerryanne knew the amount they’d paid to get them shipped there, she would’ve had heart failure.

But that was the way with everything. Kyle had made it clear that no one was to discuss the cost of anything with her and when she’d confronted him about it, his answer showed her just how much he’d come to know her already. “Because sweetheart if they tell you you’ll choose the cheapest one even if it’s not the one you like.” He’d kissed her nose, patted her butt and told her to get lost so he could continue his business call.

She’d held out for all of five minutes, refusing to choose anything, but that didn’t last long once they started bringing out the samples. Since she’d gotten to know Kyle’s two sisters in the last few months, she’d asked them to be bridesmaids, and over very loud protest had convinced Ms. Lucille to be her matron of honor.

They’d invited their new friends from town who’d been only too excited to accept. No one mentioned Paul and Jen for which she was eternally grateful. She didn’t want anything to spoil her day, and was sure she’d be visiting Kyle from behind glass if either of them tried anything.

The big day dawned sunny and bright and her eyes popped open before the birds started singing in the trees. She was wrapped securely in his arms and his soft breath against her nape said he was still asleep. She laid there quietly just taking it all in. She wished her mom and dad had been here to see it, to see how happy she was now.

Where once she’d been afraid to be this happy, she now embraced it thanks to Kyle. He’d done everything in his power to make her feel that she deserved this, all of it. Since Paul was out of the picture they hardly had a harsh word anymore, except maybe when he was trying to bully her out of doing something he thought was too strenuous, like doing the dishes.

She’d wanted to wait until they came back from their honeymoon to hire fulltime help, so for now they were using a service that came three times a week to keep the place in tiptop shape.

Kyle had a laundry list of help he was convinced she was going to need. Maids, a butler, a chef, and a groundskeeper. The only thing she objected to was the battalion of nannies he had lined up to interview even before the baby was born. Not just any nannies mind you, the man was vetting pediatric nurses that he and his mom had found through research.

She’d argued that she didn’t need anyone to take care of her child, that she was more than looking forward to doing the job on her own. His answer had been that the woman, whoever she was, could sit and twiddle her thumbs all day if it came to that, but she was getting help.

She was sure the horror stories he’d read about postmortem depression on one of his quests to learn everything about pregnancy and childrearing had a lot to do with it. She’d taken to hiding his books but that didn’t seem to stop him, since there was always a new one laying around somewhere.

“You’re awake?” She rolled over in his arms at his whispered words. She smiled through the lump in her throat as it hit her for the first time, that for the rest of her life, she would wake up to that precious face every morning. Her hand came up to smooth the hair at his temple. “I love you Kyle, so much.”

“I love you more. What’s got you worried?”

She studied his eyes as she searched for the words. “I hope I’m everything you need me to be, I...”

“You already are.” As was his norm, he placed his warm palm over the roundness of her tummy. Every morning since the sickness had passed they’d spend at least half an hour in bed, and it wasn’t always about lovemaking. She cherished these moments. They always seemed to make the rest of the day go better.

Last night, the women had tried to convince him to sleep over at gramps’ since it was bad luck to see the bride before the wedding. But Kyle had

nixed that idea out the gate. “No way, we don’t sleep apart, ever.” His mother’s pleading had fallen on deaf ears and no amount of logic had made him budge.

“It’s our big day baby, I don’t want to see those frown lines for the rest of the day got it.” He pulled her under him being careful of her stomach and since her body was still soft from the night’s loving, he just slipped his morning’s hardness into her and buried his face in her neck.

He held still as if reacquainting himself with the feel of her. She loved it when he did that. Somehow, this was different, sweeter, softer more intense.

“My last pussy as a single man.” He said those words before opening her up wider and driving himself forcefully into her welcoming body. “Fuck babe, why do you make my dick so hard?” It was true, knowing that in a few short hours she was going to be his in every way spiked his libido.

Kerryanne was glad he hadn’t listened to his mom and spent the night away, she wouldn’t have missed this for the world. She felt the strength and hardness of his erection as he stroked in and out of her and reveled in it. She’d done that to him. It was she that brought out that uncontrollable passion in this amazing man. And boy was she happy that the doc had assured him that sex was no threat to the baby.

“I want to do you from behind but I don’t wanna pull out; fuck.” Her pussy juiced heavily as he found her lips and kissed her wildly. She was drowning in a sea of sensation. What the coming day meant and the way he was loving her, combined to send her heart into overdrive.

She bit his lip and sped her hips up. Suddenly she wanted to feel him driving into her from behind too and she told him so. “I want you to take me from behind, please Kyle.” She helped him out by squeezing him off with her pussy muscles. “If you’re trying to get me to stop that’s not working.” The tightness around his cock made him want to plunge over and over. “But if my girl wants a deep hard fuck from behind that’s what she’s gonna get.”

He helped her onto her hands and knees and fucked back into her, sinking his cock into her depths. Holding onto her hips, he pulled her back onto his raging cockmeat over and over while his fingers moved around and teased her clit. After a few strong strokes he held still. “Fuck yourself on my cock.” She was only too happy to and his toes were soon curled from the rising of his sap.

She knew how to work him with that pussy of hers. Sliding her tightness to the very end of his dick, then slamming herself back hard, shaking her ass up and down and moving it around in circles, it was all good for his cock. A hard smack to her ass put a stop to her torture and he took over.

Since she was so hot, and he could tell by the long deep moans and the amount of juicing her pussy did, he wet his fingers in his mouth and eased them into her tight ass. “I’m coming in there next.” Since they’d learned that his son or daughter was already living inside her, he’d ass fucked her a hell of a lot more in the last few months. In fact they’d been having a whole lot of fun in the bedroom and his baby loved every minute of it.
