Open your hand. Okay, now close it. How does that feel?

The words were damn near tattooed on Asher’s brain by now. He refused to sit on the table in the exam room anymore. He would have preferred the doctor’s stool with the wheels, but he kept his mouth shut and just sat in a regular chair.

“Open your hand again,” the doctor said.

He gently touched the outsides of Asher’s hand. His fingertips ran along Asher’s hand as he intently checked it out.

“How does it feel?” the doctor asked.

“Wonderful,” Asher said. “Are we good yet?”

The doctor, an older man with a bitter looking face, looked at Asher. This doctor was used to treating celebrities. Therefore, he was used to dealing with attitudes and the press banging down the door to get a picture of an injured, sick, or troubled celebrity for a tabloid cover story.

“Mr….”

“Asher,” Asher said. “Just call me Asher, okay?”

“Asher,” the doctor said. “Your hand looks great. It is healing well. I have looked at the X-rays and scans. You are lucky you had your hand on the top of the wheel when the accident occurred. If not, your hand would have been crushed to the point of needing surgical repairs.”

“Lucky,” Asher scoffed. “Not exactly the word I would use when I have guys with cameras chasing me right into an accident.”

“That part I cannot help with,” the doctor said. He pushed back and rolled across the floor. “But I feel that you can start working the hand a little more now.”

“I can play guitar?”

“I didn’t say that, Asher. I said working the hand. That means more flexing. Start lifting light items. If you want to try and put your hand around the neck of a guitar, that’s up to you.” The doctor looked back at Asher. “But do not try playing at the show tonight…”

“Now how the hell do you know we have a show tonight, Doc? You don’t seem like a rock n’ roll fan. No offense.”

The doctor smiled. “None taken, Asher. My daughter is twenty-two and she’s taking my seventeen-year-old niece to the show. Guess who had to buy the tickets?”

“Well, thank you for your support,” Asher said. “And, uh, this…” Asher lifted his hand and wiggled his fingers.

Damn… that hurt.

Asher made a fist with his good hand and placed his hand by his side. That’s where it felt most comfortable. He stood and opened the door. Waiting right outside were two women in nursing scrubs. They were wide eyed; one with blue eyes, one with brown eyes.

“Hey,” Asher said.

“Wow,” blue eyes said. “Do you need anything?”

“Good to go,” Asher said.

“Let me show you to the door,” brown eyes said.

“Katie, you can’t take him out front. There are people waiting.”

“There are people out there?” Asher asked.

“Yeah,” blue eyes said. “Someone came inside and started asking if you were here.”

“What did you say?” Asher asked.

“I played stupid,” blue eyes said. “We are used to this. Maybe not exactly like this. There’s a lot more than normal.”

“Shit,” Asher said. He reached into his pocket and took out his cell. He pressed a button and called Sam.

“I’m pulling around back,” Sam said. “It’s a zoo out front. You need to control the story, Asher.”

Asher gritted his teeth and hung up.

“I have a ride out back,” Asher said. “Who’s going to lead the way?”

Both women sprung into action. They walked and Asher followed. He admired their backsides, silently comparing them. Blue eyes had her blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail and had a real sweet innocent look about her. Brown eyes, however, had her hair down with a little bit pulled back in a small clip, and had a little more to offer behind herself.

They were both sexy, especially in the scrubs.

It gave Asher something to look at and think about during his walk through the medical facility.

“That door right there,” blue eyes said as she looked over her shoulder.

Asher lifted his eyes and grinned. “Excellent. Thank you both very much. Any chance you’re making the show tonight?”

“Are you?” brown eyes asked.

“I never miss a show,” Asher said.

“I’m sorry that happened to you,” blue eyes said. “I don’t believe anything they have written. It's all garbage, you know?"

“Entertainment, love,” Asher said, still grinning.

Blue eyes' cheeks turned bright red.

“We will be so screwed for this,” brown eyes said. “But can you sign something?”

“Asking an injured rockstar to sign an autograph? That takes guts.”

“You’re right,” brown eyes said. “Forget it, that was very rude of me…”

Asher laughed. “I’m only playing, love. Come here.”

Goddamn, Asher loved the rockstar life. Blue eyes came to his left side and he noticed the flower scent of the shampoo she used. But brown eyes, oh, she was a little wilder. When she came close, he smelled her perfume. It made his nose throb a little. She smelled sexy.

He signed an autograph for each and then kicked open the back door with his left foot. He stepped outside and spotted Sam’s little speedster car.

Before he was even all the way to the car door, someone called his name. To his left, at the end of the back parking lot was a man holding up a smartphone. He was obviously recording Asher getting to the car and climbing inside.
