“Why?”

“I’ve always had good things happen around water. I think I have a strong connection with it.”

“You and every other human.”

I stuck my tongue out and blew.

“I’m really sorry about this morning, Rain.”

“Forget about it.” I nuzzled my head against him. “Did I hurt your penis?”

“I don’t have one, remember? The art geeks you hang with in Sarasota have penises. I have a dick.”

“Penis.”

He paused. “Say it, Rainy.”

I bit my lip. “Dick.”

“And who has one?” He pressed his lips against my cheek.

“Jude has a dick, apparently as big as a wine bottle, according to Vicky.”

An explosive laugh fled his lips. He continued carrying me to wherever we were going. “Vicky should stop doing drugs. She’s hallucinating.”

“So, did I hurt your dick?”

“Hurt what?”

I grinned. “Your dick.”

“I love when you say that and, no, everything is intact.”

I wondered if it was a good time to tell him that I no longer desired him to be my first. Things were flowing well right now. We’d laughed and joked on the plane as we sipped on martinis. He’d listened to all my boring stories about college—trying to pledge a sorority and giving up in the middle of pledge week, how my art history teacher had embarrassed me in front of the whole class because I’d mistakenly emailed him one of Jude’s dirty jokes instead of my homework assignment, and even the failed dates I’d had with guys that creeped me out. The whole time, he’d sat there watching me with this fascinated expression, as if my regular life entertained him.

“Okay. Here we go,” he said.

The piano music sounded closer. Fabric pressed against the soles of my feet. He lowered me onto a blanket, I assumed, and captured my lips.

I tensed and moved away. “I think we shouldn’t kiss anymore.”

“I think that’s a bad idea.” He nipped at my bottom lip.

“Aren’t you going to take off the blindfold?”

“No.” His breath tickled the skin on my shoulder. “Why do you want to stop kissing me?”

“I think that it would be a smart idea.” I raised my hands to remove the blindfold.

He stopped them and pulled me into his embrace. “Are you thinking of taking back your offer of giving me your apple?”

“Maybe.” I arched up as he dropped several delicious kisses near the top of my sundress.

His lips touched me in slow, seductive movements along my chin and down toward the curve of neck. My nipples grew hard. He slipped his hands over my breasts and rubbed them both with his fingers. Sparks of desire burst all over me.

“I know I messed up, but give me another chance.”

I leaned away from his hands. “Let’s talk about this without the blindfold.”

“No way. You have to keep the blindfold on for a while. We’ll have to talk about it later. This surprise is about the senses.”

I grinned. “You’re really scaring me right now. The senses?”

“Yes.” He slipped his hands down the sides of my waist, by my thighs and legs, and finally stopped at my bare feet. He massaged the soles. “I love this color on your toes. What is it called?”

I relished his hands’ attention so much that it was difficult to concentrate. “Brandy wine.”

“Beautiful.” He spread my feet apart. “Did someone massage your feet at the spa today?”

“Yes.”

“Did they do your whole body?”

“Pretty much.”

“Were you naked?”

“Pretty much.”

“Did a man or woman massage you?”

“Does it matter?”

“For my sanity, it does.”

“Meaning?” I moved my feet away from his hands and tried to remove the blindfold again.

“Keep it on, or I’m going to tie up your hands.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“You don’t truly know me, do you?”

“Apparently not.” I blew out a long breath. “I had no idea about this blindfold fetish you have.”

He removed his hands.

Movement sounded at my side. My heart stopped. I didn’t enjoy not knowing where I was or what he was doing.

He kissed my ear.

I jumped with a shriek.

“Relax, Rainy.”

I extended my hands out to touch him. His silky skin yielded under my fingers. I traced the hard bridge of his nose, the arch of his eyebrows, and the outline of his full lips. The whole time, he groaned. Sensations fluttered in my chest. I knew we should end this and not go any farther.

But I can’t stop touching him.

He trapped one of my fingers within his lips and sucked, encasing it in the moist warmth of his mouth. As much as I tried to keep it in, a whimper fled from me.

He released my finger. “Open your mouth.”

I swallowed. “Why?”

“Because I really need to put something in it.”

I covered it. “If you put your penis into my—”

“I don’t have a penis.”

“If you put your
dick
in my mouth—”

“Stop thinking so naughty and relax. Open your mouth for me, Rainy.” His voice warmed my body, flustering my senses.

How haven’t I realized how sexy his voice sounds? Maybe his face and lush body drowned out all of my focus.

I parted my lips and hoped for the best. If Jude did something stupid, I couldn’t just call up Thompson to pick me up. I’d have to use my credit card. Mom’s accountant monitored all of them and notified my grandmother of anything out of order, so it would be my last resort.

“Good girl.”

I rolled my eyes under my blindfold.

“I really wish I was putting my dick inside that sweet mouth, but this will have to do.”

Something warm and wet slipped between my lips. Caramel and a fruity juice coated my tongue. It was a piece of pineapple dripping with caramel. Smiling, I ate it.

“Was that so bad?” He stroked me with something soft and light.

I gasped, trembling under its light touch. “What is that?”

“A feather.” He ran it down to my chest.

My breasts longed for release. They felt heavy and swollen with need. I squirmed a little as he glided it across my shoulders and down my back. “You’re really taking this to the next level, aren’t you?”

“I’m trying to show you that you can trust me to please you.” He placed a chocolate covered strawberry on my tongue next.

“Well, you’re doing a good job so far.” I hummed in pleasure.

“You like that?”

“Yes.”

“I had a catering group whip up some treats for you so that we could have a little picnic on the beach.”

“A blindfolded picnic?”

“Yes.”

More sweet fruit came. I recognized other blends—banana in powdered sugar and cinnamon, melons slathered in a berry sauce, tiny circular cakes soaked in rum. The whole time, the piano played romantic tunes with sensual harmonies that pushed visions into my mind, like slow sex under stark white sheets in a luxurious beachside room where the window stood open, letting the air flow through. Each time Jude fed me, I nipped at his fingers and heard him grunt with desire.

Why did I wait so long to try Jude? Goodness. He has me going crazy.

Once I’d held up my hands and said I was full, he exchanged the fruit for his finger laced in warm milk chocolate, and then his caramel coated tongue. I sucked on it hard. All earlier thoughts about not sharing my first time with Jude evaporated into the sea air. I yearned for him so badly that my body rocked with desire. I craved him. Even I could smell my arousal in the air.

He whispered in my ear, “Tell me why you’re squirming like that.”

“You know why.” I licked the last bit of caramel on my lips.

“I guess I do.” I heard him sniff and whimper next to me. “You’re so wet. That perfume is filling the air. Every time I inhale, I get harder and harder. I wish I could lock your scent up and put it in a bottle.” He laid me down on my back and kissed me some more. “You really think that you can convince yourself that I’m not the one to taste your apple?”

“I’m not sure.” I writhed under his hands as they traced my whole body.

“All these years we’ve known each other. I think it was always meant to be.” He glided the straps on my sundress down but didn’t lower it to expose my breasts. Instead, he slid his lips across my skin, making me shiver in delight and speeding up my pulse. My heart boomed in my ears. He licked a path over my shoulder to the tops of my breasts, and with each inch of licking, he nibbled and sucked until I was wriggling beneath those fingers and grasping for the blanket under me.

“There won’t be another man that will take your virginity.” He pulled the blindfold off of my eyes.

It took time for my sight to return. When it did, he appeared above me. Hunger creased every inch of his face. Above him, lavenders and pinks, turquoise blues and shades of gold merged into dark blue and painted the sky. Palm trees swayed around us on the beach. Crisp white sand spread across and connected with a clear blue and turquoise ocean. We lay on a green silk blanket. A large tray of tiny clay pots with various sauces rested next to the plates of fruit and cake. I turned my head. A black man in a suit with a blindfold over his eyes sat in front of a piano as he played. No one else was on the beach but us and the piano player.

“I rented this portion of the beach just for us.”

“This is an amazing surprise.” I directed my attention back to him and ran my fingers through his silky blond curls.

A neutral expression covered his face. “Did you hear what I said? There won’t be another man.”

“We should…talk about this later.” Right now, I had no idea what I desired. One minute I didn’t want to take our friendship out of our cozy existence. Next, I lay on my back with his delicious lips all over me. I tried to get up.

He shook his head. “Don’t avoid this. Being with you means too much to me.”

“Can we at least talk about this with me sitting up?”

“No.” He placed his hands on my waist and pulled me in closer. “I don’t think you can think when I’m next to you like this.”

“So you’d rather I didn’t use my brain when considering you as my first?”

“There’s nothing to consider, Rainy.” He raised the bottom of my dress. Air slipped against my bare leg. He dove his hand under my dress and caressed my thigh. “There won’t be any other guy before me. I decided that earlier this morning when you ran off.”

“That’s what
you
decided?”

“Yes.”

“You don’t get to decide for me, Jude.”

“Then maybe your body will decide for you.”

I wriggled a little as his fingers journeyed up to my panties. Although my body burned with excitement, my hands and arms transformed to wobbly jelly. I suddenly didn’t know what to do with them, so I forced them to remain at my side while I froze under his touch.

“Relax. I just want to touch you.”

“So, earlier you said there won’t be any guy before you.” I slowly breathed in and out as his fingers danced on my skin. “Before you? It sounds like you think our having sex is inevitable.”

“It is.” He slid his fingers under the band on my panties, and inch by inch, he pulled them down. “Let’s not pretend like there has never been any sexual attraction between us. Why not act on it?”

“Because we may end up hurting each other or…” I paused as he yanked my panties down my legs.

“Or what?” He guided his fingers between my thighs.

Dear God.

“I forgot what I was going to say,” I mumbled.

This feels like heaven.

“I won’t hurt you.” He toyed with my clit as it swelled under his fingertips. “Do you believe me?”

I moaned and lifted my hips into his hands. Every brain cell focused on the pressure of those magical fingers, touching me the way I’d always dreamed someone should, caressing me the way I’d tried to do myself but never truly could get it down like this. If I’d been wet before, now I bathed his hand as he worked me to a bundle of shivering nerves.

“Rainy?” he whispered and dipped his tongue into my ear. “Do you believe me?”

“Yes,” I moaned, having no idea what he was saying, just knowing that he couldn’t stop or I’d die.

“Then tell me that it will only be me.” He removed his hands and I whimpered. “No more backing out or saying you’re undecided. I want to hear you say that no other man will be between those thighs. Only me.”

Even though he’d removed his fingers, my body clenched with pleasure. I squeezed my thighs and felt moistness between them, dripping down my skin.

“Only me,” he said through clenched teeth.

I raised my eyebrows. “Are you mad?”

“Please say it.” He averted his eyes from my view for a few seconds, as if to calm down.
