Barely down from the high of his release, still shaking and searching for his next breath, Ben dragged David up from the floor and ate his way into the man’s mouth with as little finesse as the first time they’d kissed. Voracious, Ben tangled his tongue with David’s. As he tasted himself inside his man, he jerked and spilled between them again, onto David’s shirt.

Lost in David so fast, Ben started to pull at David’s shirt, but David—as he’d mastered doing so often in the two years of their relationship—pressed sweet kisses all over Ben’s face, petted his arms, back, and chest with the softest touches, and soothed the beast living in Ben.

Almost, anyway
. Breathing heavily, but in control once more, Ben leaned against the door and eyed the handsome all-American beauty who was his man. “Did you do it?” Ben asked, still smoldering with the residual heat of what David had just given him.

“Yes.” David blushed, and he shifted his weight from one foot to the other—a nervous gesture David certainly no longer needed after everything they’d done together, but that Ben found endlessly endearing. “Of course.”

“Show me,” Ben ordered, just because he liked to ruffle David’s feathers. “I want to see it now.”

David’s cheeks burned even hotter. “All right.” Moving his hands to his waistband, David turned to face away from Ben. “But just a peek.”

Then David eased his jeans down in the back, over the taut globes of his buttocks, and revealed the butt plug stuffed in his ass. The shiny black circle of the base, tucked between David’s pale cheeks, was an enticing bull’s-eye-worthy target for any man’s cock.
But it’s only for me.

As David pulled his jeans back up, the arousing sight disappeared, and Ben groaned. “Honey, that is a thing of beauty tucked inside you. I have one hell of a weekend planned for us.” Ben put his underwear and pants to rights but left his belt on the floor, and growled as his prick worked to stiffen again, much too fast for success. “I hope you won’t need to walk on Monday,” he said, “because I’m not sure you’ll be able to.”

With a cheeky grin, David sidled up to Ben and wrapped both arms around his waist. “I know how to make your ass sore too now.” He looked up at Ben, and open pleasure—surely with himself for learning all kinds of ways to effectively handle Ben and his appetites during the time they’d been together—lit his gaze. “Remember?”

“Indeed I do.” Ben cupped his hand around the back of David’s head and drew him up for a sweet, lingering kiss. “And I love it when you do.” Linking his hands at the small of David’s back, Ben rocked them both gently side to side. “I talked to Mika earlier and kindly suggested he visit Brit and Travis this weekend, and he helpfully agreed and said he wanted to see how big Jenna has gotten in the past month.” Ben mentioned the couple’s young daughter, who was growing like a weed. He let his hand drift south and nipped David’s lips as he grazed over the circle shape of the plug through his jeans. “We have the whole house to ourselves. Come with me.” He grabbed one of David’s hands and tugged him toward their bedroom.

David pulled right back and stopped Ben short. “Hold up for a sec. I ran a little behind schedule today, and I still have to take care of the animals. Go change and get comfortable.” He shooed Ben toward the hall that led to their room. “I’ll meet you in bed soon.”

“I’ll come with you.” Rather than head for the bedroom, Ben took David’s hand and pulled him through the living room and kitchen, toward the back of their house. “I’ll help you feed them and clean whatever needs taking care of.” He cocked a knowing brow back at his sweet man. “You can introduce me to whoever you brought home new this week.”

“Really?” David beamed; he grabbed Ben’s arms. “Because I do have two puppies who will be here for at least a month. And there’s one little guy I think needs to stay with us forever.”

Ben’s heart squeezed in the best possible way. “Yes. Show them to me. Of course I want to meet them.” David’s overt excitement got Ben’s wheels spinning. He frowned and turned David to face him. “I know I’ve been busy, but I will always be okay with whatever animal you bring home, whether it’s for a week or forever.” Ben did not want David ever nervous or fearful about his choices in their home. “You know that. Right?”

David didn’t hesitate or tremble in his answer. “Right.”

Ben exhaled with relief. “Good.” He planted a kiss on David’s upturned cheek. “So let’s go. Lead the way.”

With a wonderful lightness in his step, something Ben loved witnessing, David led them through to a second master suite with a large sunroom attached. At first Ben and David had chosen the house with the thought that Mikael would take the room, but the kid had seen the small pool house and had immediately claimed it as his, saying he would need privacy. Of course, the kid still spent the majority of his time in the house with David and Ben. He ate all the meals David cooked, but Ben figured having that separate space still allowed the young man to feel like he had his own private quarters, so Ben and David hadn’t fought Mikael on his choice.

Once David had started bringing animals home, some to foster and a few to keep forever—the permanent residents so far included two dogs and a kitten, plus Elsa—he and Ben had decided to contain food, litter boxes, beds, and toys in one area of the house, although the animals were free to roam wherever they chose. This master bedroom with the sunroom made perfect sense, and oftentimes the animals remained close to the two rooms, loving to rest in the sunroom with the rays shining down on them while they napped.

Before David and Ben reached the room, David spun and squeaked, “Congratulations, by the way.” With a bounce, he leaned in and pecked a fast kiss to Ben’s lips. “Six months in, and you’re double the projections that Skye was hoping for you.” Animated still, he switched to giving Ben a quick, hard hug. “I knew you’d rock the crap out of this job, and I’m happy the Skyes took the time to come down and formally commend you for all your hard work.”

“You talked to Betty, huh?” Ben quirked a brow. So much for his reveal of the good news. “How long did it take for you to get the information out of her?”

“Quite a while, actually. But in the end she understood why I wanted to know. I could tell by your text it was something big and important.” While glancing down at the front of Ben’s dress pants, David reached back, fingered the toy still tucked inside him, and bit his lip. “I wanted to make sure I started the celebration the second you walked in the door, in a way that would make you the happiest.”

Ben was still coming down from the high of release and murmured, “You did that very well. Thank you.”

Hugging Ben again, David looked up at him, smiling, a blush of healthy glow in his skin. “I’m so proud of you, Ben.” He pressed the most exquisitely tender kiss to Ben’s lips, and their gazes locked brightly. “I love you.”

Ben brushed the back of his hand against David’s cheek, lingering, just because he loved to touch this man. “Me too, honey.” He grazed his lips across David’s nose, forehead, and temple before whispering in his ear, “I adore you and live for you.”

David blinked back tears, but he grinned big, and with one last squeeze, he left Ben at the door and strode into the room. The animals flocked to David, jumping and hopping, all of them eager to get attention from him. Ben stood back for a moment, his heart swelling with love and pride as he took in the scene. He understood exactly the desire of each animal in the room. Whenever Ben spotted David, excitement bounded through him, and he wanted nothing more than to crawl all over the man and gain his full attention.
He’s special. And now that he’s comfortable and happy in his own skin, now that he’s found his place in the world, everyone and everything around him sees it too
. Aching all over in the best kind of way, Ben put his hand against his chest, feeling the extra beat that kicked in only when he got to be close to David.

Kneeling on the floor with an Italian greyhound sitting regally in front of him, the animal with one ear torn off and one eye missing, David smiled over at Ben. “Come on.” He held out his hand, wiggled his fingers, and beckoned Ben to him. “I want you to meet Ed.”

So completely in love, among his own unique, wonderful, strange brood, Ben took David’s hand, crouched next to him, and basked in David’s warmth as the man introduced Ben to the newest member of their happy, imperfect little family.

None of them would ever be alone, unneeded, or unloved again.

I am an air force brat and spent most of my growing up years living overseas in Italy and England, as well as Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia while we were stateside. I now live in Florida once again with my big, wonderfully pushy family and my three-legged cat, Harry. I have been reading romance novels since I was twelve years old, and twenty years later I still adore them. Currently, I have an unexplainable obsession with hockey goaltenders, and an unabashed affection for
