pissed off right now,” he said to Matthew. “Thinking that

someone else has marked your mate. But believe me, Dean

has been accorded a great honor – a totally non-claiming,

perfectly harmless, but very protective honor.”

“Dean’s mark says he is a friend of the Fae,” Shawn went on.

“That he has done them a great favor with no thought of

reward, and to the Fae that means giving a lifetime of favors in

return. The two men who gave this gift are princes of the

Sidhe. Anytime Dean is ever alone, and in danger, he can call

the princes, and they will come and help him. It’s like a built-in

protection beacon that Dean can use for the rest of his life.

Also, the same mark protects Dean from curses, any intended

ill will or even attacks from other paranormals. Any paranormal

that knows about the Fae, will understand that if they attack

Dean, then they risk the wrath of the princes.”

“All of that in one mark?” Kane said, looking at Dean’s neck in

fascination.

“Yes,” Shawn said, giving Dean a grin. “The Fae’s

communication system is unlike anything else in the world. So

what did you do, to win the favor of two Fae princes?”

“Aelfric and Fafnir,” Dean said, swallowing the last of his steak.

“Originally nothing. They were the ones that gave Kylan, also

known as Kyron by the way, the magic to kidnap me. Kyron,

had told them that he could kidnap me, claim me as a mate,

and then use my power, and yours,” he said looking at Shawn,

“to bring down the other wolf packs. Kyron was looking at a

wolf form of world domination from the sounds of it.”

“Anyhow, I spoke up and set them straight on who Kyron was,

his status as a wolf and that he had been basically lying to

them the whole time. So they set me free, kept Kyron away

from me and transported me somewhere else. Once I came

too…”

“They hurt you?” Matthew growled.

“No,” Dean said. “Not intentionally. Apparently I don’t do well

with Fae travel methods. I keep blacking out. So we got to

talking and it seemed that the only reason Aelfric and Fafnir

gave Kyron the tools to kidnap me, is because they wanted to

get close to a wolf shifter. They told me they know they have a

wolf shifter mate – someone to complete their triad. They can’t

claim each other until they can find this third person, so they

have been trying to get close to wolf shifters – they have been

looking for three hundred years, can you believe it?”

“The Fae are virtually immortal,” Shawn said, “So I can believe

it.”

“Yeah,” said Dean. “Immortal they may be, but no one told

them that wolves rely on scent to identify friend or foe. These

two guys didn’t have any scent, and that was why every time

they got close to a wolf shifter, they got the brush off. Kyron

was the first wolf shifter to ever talk to them. It seems their

magic wards, or something like that, masks their scent. So

when I explained that to them, they did some magic thingy and

all of a sudden I could smell them.”

“So they were happy, and they sent me home,” Dean

concluded. “They sent me back to that black circle of rocks, but

of course I blacked out again, and when I woke up this last

time, I shifted into wolf form and ran home.”

“Do you know what happened to Kylan, I mean Kyron?” Kane

asked.

“The two Fae, didn’t kill him, if that’s what you are asking,

Kane,” Dean said. “Apparently they were going to mark him

too, so everyone would know not to have anything to do with

him, or offer him any help. Oh, but Kane, he’s sick. There is

something really wrong with him. He changed into a wolf, and

it took like five minutes and sounded really painful. And his

poor wolf. He looked rabid – big clumps of hair coming out,

skinny so you could see his ribs and all teeth and saliva. I know

he betrayed us, but fuck Kane, I felt so sorry for him. No wolf

should look like that.”

Kane looked at Shawn who looked just as sad. “It sounds like

his wolf spirit is rejecting him. His wolf spirit will get to the

point where it dies, and Kyron will probably go insane,” Shawn

said softly. “That has to be the worst thing that could happen

to a wolf shifter.”

“Is there any way this could be stopped? If we could find him,”

Dean asked hopefully. Losing his wolf sounded like a

punishment worse than death and Dean was kind-hearted

enough to want to do something to help Kyron if they could.

“Now the Fae have withdrawn their assistance, I might be able

to trace him by scent,” Shawn said slowly. “I might be able to

heal him enough for us to get through to him, and stop the

downward slide he’s on.”

“Did you forget that he tried to take over our pack?” Kane

growled. “That he’ll stop at nothing to try and be a despotic

Alpha?”

“He has issues,” Dean cried out. “But he’s sick and he’s

hurting, and he’s still a wolf. Surely we should try and help

him, rather than kill him.”

Kane and Shawn did their silent chat thing for a bit, and then

Kane smiled. “You are right, Dean. I’m not saying we will help

him, yet,” he added. “But I will get Griff and the boys looking

into this new name you’ve given us, and if we find anything

that suggests that is his real name, then we will see if we can

find him and bring him in. But I’m not promising anything.”

“Fair enough,” Dean smiled. He knew that Shawn would work

on the Alpha in private and if anything could be done for

Kyron/Kylan, then it would be.

“Now,” said Kane, getting up from his seat at the table, “We

have taken up enough of your time. Eat, sleep and come and

see us tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully we will have an update

on what’s going on by then. I’m sure you two have some

catching up to do,” he added with a smirk.

Blushing, Dean looked at the floor. He wasn’t angry with

Matthew anymore, thanks to the shower, meal and

conversation, but he still felt that Matthew had no right to be

growly with him over something that hadn’t done any harm.

Still, he smiled, because he was expected to, and Matthew

showed the Alpha and Alpha Mate to the door.

Dean got up from his seat, and took his dishes into the kitchen.

Now that he and Matthew were alone, he felt strangely

awkward. After his joyous homecoming, and all that he had

hoped would happen, this uncomfortable feeling was worse

than when he and Matthew first talked.

“Would it help if I said I was sorry?” Matthew’s voice came

from behind him.

Chapter Thirteen

Dean kept his eyes on the dishes in the sink. He didn’t want to

look at his mate. He knew if he did, he would forgive him

anything, and he felt that it was important that Matthew fully

understand that Dean, as his mate, was not going to put up

with Matthew acting all Alpha towards him anytime he got

upset about something.

“It depends on what you are sorry for,” Dean said slowly,

making sure his tone gave nothing about how he was truly

feeling away. Truth be known, he was as horny as hell, but if

he didn’t give Matthew the chance to understand what he had

done wrong, then his mate couldn’t modify his behavior. Being

the Omega, to Matthew’s Alpha, Dean knew he had to make a

stand now.

Mathew came closer, and Dean stiffened, but put the last of the

dishes in the dish rack. Picking up a dish cloth he wiped down

the benches, trying to ignore the overwhelming smell of

cinnamon and vanilla combined with aroused wolf. When he

turned to wipe the kitchen counter, Matthew was standing right

behind him and there was no mistaking the heat in his eyes.

“I didn’t give you a chance to explain,” Matthew said softly. “I

went, in your words, from happy and horny, to grumpy and

grouchy, over something that had a simple explanation. I let

my Alpha possessiveness overshadow my joy at your

homecoming and my strong desire to fuck you and claim you

as my own. I should have enjoyed the moment, and any

subsequent moments with you, and ignored anything else until

much later…”

Matthew looked at Dean hopefully. “Did I cover everything?”

Dean couldn’t help but smile. Matthew really was perfect for

him, and even though he did miss the main key point, the fact

that Matthew had thought things over, and really tried to cover

everything he possibly thought he had done wrong, did mean a

lot to Dean. He put down his dish cloth and wrapped his arms

around Matthew’s waist.

“You got growly at me,” he said looking up into his mate’s

handsome face. “You may have thought you had good reason,

but you didn’t. Now there is good growly, which I really love by

the way…” Dean smiled, as Matthew’s eyes were positively

burning with lust. “But what you did was bad growly, and I

don’t like that, at all. Not unless I have genuinely done

something wrong. Even then, there are better ways of dealing

with things, than getting bad growly.”

“So you like good growly,” Matthew said, his own smile slowly

moving across his mouth. “But not bad growly.”

“Not bad growly,” Dean repeated, moving close enough so his

whole body lay flush against his mates’. Matthew growled then,

a low and sensual sound that flickered down Dean’s spine and

lodged squarely in his balls. Dean moaned quietly and ran his

hands up Matthew’s back.

“I’m testing it out,” Matthew teased. “My growling, I mean. I

take it that’s a good growl. Now what about this one?” Matthew

slipped his knee between Dean’s legs, his big hands holding

Dean securely around his ass. He growled again, lower this

time and both men moaned as Dean flexed his body against

Matthew’s, trying to get as close as he could despite the

clothes.

“I think,” Dean said a little unsteadily, “That we really need to

lie down, preferably without clothes, and practice this some

more. I’d hate for you to get it wrong.”

The grin Matthew gave him was lethal in more ways than one,

but without saying a word, Matthew hoisted Dean up, allowing

him to wrap his legs around the bigger man’s waist as he

walked towards the bedroom.

Matthew’s deft hands had Dean naked in mere seconds, then

he carefully laid Dean down on the bed as though he was the

most cherished of beings. Stripping off his jeans, he stood

naked for a moment by the bed, loving the way Dean’s eyes

drank in his body with such wonder. It wasn’t the first time

someone had looked at him like that, but it meant so much to

him, that just the sight of his body could bring his mate such

pleasure.

Not that he wasn’t equally enthralled. Dean’s slim body, that

still needed feeding up, ticked every one of Matthew’s boxes.

The muscle definition without bulk, the long, lean lines of

Dean’s legs and the cock that was definitely bigger than would

be expected on a man so small. As he carefully climbed onto

the bed, Matthew made a note, that at some time, real soon,

he was going to encourage his mate to top him. He had a

feeling it would be an awesome experience, especially as it

would be something Dean, as an Omega, would never expect

to do.

But for now, he had to quell his strong urge to simply mount

his mate, fuck him until he screamed and claim him. His wolf,

overjoyed with the fact that Dean was back with them, had no

problem with doing such a thing. Matthew’s human side was a

little more compassionate, and he knew he had to be careful

because if he upset his mate in any way, then he might not

ever be given another chance.

“Little one,” he said softly as he stroked long lines down Dean’s

body. After such a short time together, it thrilled Matthew how

Dean leaned into his touch, seeking him out, rather than

pulling away. “How do you want to do this? What will make you

the most comfortable?”

Dean smiled, and his grey eyes softened with such affection. “I

want you to mount me from behind,” he said quietly. Given

that was the last thing Matthew expected to hear, and that

must have shown on his face, Dean reached up and stroked his
