I spun her around and pulled her close to me. The DJ was now playing an old school joint, “Come into my Room”
by Mavado. Just as before, Laci started dancing, letting the music take her away. I followed her movements, making it look like we were one.  She began mumbling the chorus, so I decided to join her on the next verse.

“Mi gyal ben ova, mi ah gih you from back. Mi have di key fi you padlock, mi love a run ova. Yuh she baby nuh stop, yuh sweat till yuh weak. Yuh draw fi yuh mop. Sexy little ting, pretty likkle pet. Come mek we go, di two a we guh buss a sweat. I’m here to end yuh stress and bring you sexual happiness. We nah have no secret fi keep, mek we confess. We rolling in the jeep.”

“Yuh fingers on my breasts,” Laci sang.

“People coulda see it,” I continued.

“But cudda care less. Dying fi get in between di sheets.” As Laci sung the last line, she turned around, wrapping her arms around my neck.

“Mi baby, dem done know di rest.”

“Your accent is horrible,” Laci giggled. I wrapped my arms at her waist, pulling her closer to me.

“Yours wasn’t any better.”

I got lost in her chestnut colored eyes. “You have beautiful eyes Laci.”

“Thank you.” She blushed, turning her head away from me.

When the song ended, we left the dance floor and headed outside to get some air. We got a couple of stares as we walked hand in hand in the parking lot. I wasn’t paying it any mind because I was used to it. Laci, on the other hand, was bothered by it. She kept tightening her grip on my hand, as if someone was going to steal her away.

“Nothing’s going to happen to you Laci, as long as you’re with me,” I told her as we made it to her car.

“Why are all these chicks staring at me as if I took something that belonged to them?” she questioned.

“In a sense, you did take something from them.” I laughed.

“Are they mad because I’m with you?” she asked, pulling her hand away from mine.

“Something like that.”

“Well, then you need to make a public service announcement and let them know it’s strictly business between the two of us.”

“I’m not making no fucking announcement because it’s none of their business. What we have going on is strictly between us, ight?”

She nodded her head and I helped her into her car. She waved bye before pulling out of the parking lot. I stood there staring, even after her car was long gone. Instead of going back in the club, I went and got in my car. It was a good thing Jinx and I didn’t drive together because my ass was ready to be out. The car ride home was a quiet one as my mind was filled with thoughts of Laci. On a daily basis, I had females throwing themselves at me, trying to kick game. That shit was a turn off for me because I believed that a man should step to the woman if he finds interest in her. When a woman approached a man, I saw it as her being hot in the ass and only wanting two things; money and dick.

Laci was different. She was hot in the ass, but every advance I gave her, she would shut it down. Didn’t have to worry about her wanting me for my money because she had her own. One thing was for sure, she wanted this dick, but I wanted her just as bad, so it was cool. The little cat and mouse game we were playing was cool for me because we were just getting to know each other. However, if feelings started to get involved, then all that shit was going to be deaded. There are three things I don’t play about; my family, my money, and my bitch.

Chapter 5: Lacianne

Waking up with the sun shining in my face did nothing but irritate the growing headache I had. Stumbling out of bed, I regained my composure long enough to close the curtains. I then climbed back into bed, throwing the comforter over my head. I wasn’t a big drinker; I should’ve known better than to drink those shots, along with my long island ice tea. My head was pounding and I felt as though my bedroom was spinning. I had so much to do today, but with the way I was feeling, none of it was going to get done. I laid in bed trying to drift back to sleep, but sleep wasn’t coming easy for me.

I figured the best thing to do was to go in the kitchen, get me some bread and butter, and see if that would soak up the alcohol in my stomach. I held on to the banister for dear life as I walked down the stairs. As I neared the kitchen, I heard this horrible sound.

“Nazi, what are you doing?” I yelled, trying to cover my ears.

“I’m making you something for that hangover I know you got. I watched you throwing back shots like your life depended on it. Here, drink this.” She poured something green from the blender into the cup and sat it in front of me. I looked at it, wondering what it was. “Don’t just stare at it, drink it. You have cases you need to go over.”

“Oh, so now you care about my cases?” I smirked, picking up the drink and chugging it. It didn’t taste bad, but it didn’t taste great either.

“Not really, I just don’t want to be the cause of you not doing your job. On a more serious note, Gunz seems to be cool.”

“How would you know if he’s cool or not?” I grabbed some bread and the butter out the fridge and sat at the island. Nazi grabbed a couple of plates, joining me.

“I can tell from the type of vibe I get from him. Plus, you seemed to be having fun last night.”

“His vibe, huh? I did enjoy my time out last night.” I smiled, remembering how his lips felt against mine.

“So, are you going to see him again? The way I see it, you got five days to tell mom you are dating someone. You already know Brett is who she has picked out for you to marry.” Brett was my parents’ best friend’s son. Brett was ok, he just wasn’t my cup of tea. He was also a lawyer at my dad’s company, which would’ve made us being married awkward.

“I’m not worried about that right now and there is nothing I can do about the situation. I already made the deal, and now I have to suffer the consequences.”

“You made a deal that you didn’t think was serious. Laci, this is your life we are talking about. You should be able to marry who you want to marry. This is not
Game of Thrones
where your parents can just marry you off for status and power.”

“Nazi, you watch way too much TV. Status and power, really?” I said, rolling my eyes. I had to side eye to make sure she understood what was coming out of her mouth.

“Yes Laci, status and power. I love our parents because of everything they did for us, but they are all about being powerful. Why do you think after you made the deal with mom, Brett started to come around frequently? If a Bentley marries a Quad, y’all would be the most powerful family ever.”

“Stop watching all that mafia shit. Powerful family of what, lawyers?”

“Fine, don’t believe me, but I’m telling you if you marry Brett, you will be making the biggest mistake of your life. I know you always try to do the right things when it comes to our parents, but this is different. This is about your happiness and no one else. All I ask is that you think about what I’m saying to you.”

“You’re acting like you’re the big sister.” I laughed, trying to lighten up the mood.

“Sometimes, I have to be the big sister.”

“How was your night with Jinx?” I changed the conversation because I didn’t want to talk about myself and my dilemmas. When the time came to handle that aspect of my life, then I would handle it, but for now, it was going on the back burner.

“He’s different. His aura screams thug, but he’s actually a nerd.”

“Really, a nerd?” Jinx looked like a dude straight from the hood.

“Yeah, he’s into computers and technology and shit. He’s fine as hell though.”

“Does that mean the two of you are dating?” I smiled.

“How am I supposed to date him when I go to school in Atlanta?”

“You’re in your last year. You will be back up here during the summer. I don’t see what the problem is.”

“Of course you don’t because you are so green. Jinx may be a nerd, but that nigga got some hood in him. With the way he looks, I know he got bitches by the dozens. I can’t see myself dating him while I’m down there and not knowing what he’s doing up here.”

“So, you think he’s going to cheat on you?”

“I’m just saying it’s a possibility. Why jump into a relationship that has the potential to be something beautiful, when I’m not ready? If Jinx is willing to remain friends with me until I finish getting my degrees, then when I come back up here, we might be able to explore some things. At this moment though, I don’t see it going anywhere, and I’m okay with that. You, on the other hand, need to jump at Gunz before it’s too late. I can tell from the way he looks at you that he is feeling you.”

“He’s not feeling me because he always reminds me that we only have business between us.”

“That nigga wants to give you the business. I don’t care what he says, he wants you and I can tell that you want him too. You better open your eyes and see what you have in front of you before it’s too late.”

“I don’t have to date anyone.” I played as if I didn’t want Gunz, but deep down, I was longing for him. He was different than the usual for me, and that reason alone drew me to him.

“Uh huh, say what you want. I suggest you get to your case work because we are double dating tonight,” Nazi said, getting up.

“Wait, what you mean double dating?” I questioned in a panic.

“Jinx invited us over to his house tonight.”

“To do what? I’m not having sex with anyone.”

“Laci, we are not going over there for sex. What kind of girl do you think your sister is? We are just going to chill and shoot some pool.”

“I wish you would have asked me first before confirming that I would go,” I sighed.

“Laci, your birthday is in six days. While I’m here for the weekend, I’m going to make sure you have as much fun as possible. Oh, and before I forget, you’re not going into work Friday since that’s your birthday.  I will be back Thursday night.”

“I have to go in to work, Nazi. My job doesn’t care that Friday is my birthday.”

“I already told dad and he’s cool with it. So, make sure you leave all your work at work on Thursday because Friday is going to be a day to remember for life.”

I ice grilled Nazi as she left out of the kitchen laughing. I had just got the job at the law firm a month ago. It was too early for me to take days off, at least it was too early for me in my book. She said Dad was okay with it, which meant she planned something big. Nazi tried to talk to our parents as little as possible. For some reason, Nazi never clicked with our parents the way I did, which explains why we look at them so differently. She always said that they were hiding something and I always worshipped the ground they walked on.

A smile appeared on my face as my thoughts went to Gunz. I was secretly happy that I would be spending time with Gunz. Being in his presence did something to me. I cleaned up the mess in the kitchen, feeling a lot better than what I did when I first entered. I grabbed my jacket, so I could run to my car and get my files. I wasn’t sure what time we were going to chill with the boys, but I wanted to make sure that all my work was done because Gunz deserved my undivided attention.

Chapter 6: Gunz

While I was out with Jinx handling business, he told me about the girls coming over to chill with us. I was cool with it because it gave me a chance to pick Laci’s brain a little more. I wanted to know the ins and outs about her. I wanted to know everything she had to offer and all the things that frightened her. I wanted to know Laci because Lacianne was the stuck up lawyer I met in the office that day. Laci was a down to earth chick that let loose once she got a couple in her. Don’t get it twisted; I appreciated both Lacianne and Laci, it was just I didn’t believe Lacianne was really who she was.

Since the girls were coming over, I made a stop at the liquor store and at the supermarket to get a couple of things. I planned on making a variety of wings and shit like that.  I wasn’t just an arrogant thug; a nigga could get down in the kitchen. Shit, I cooked better than most females. Let’s just say I was a rare breed. Niggas like me didn’t come around often. Laci better be lucky she snatched me up before someone else did. While the wings were marinating, Jinx and I were kicking it when Jiselle and her friend, Milani, walked in my house, as if they stepped off a runway.

“Heyy Bryce,” Milani sang, looking at me while licking her lips.

“Dirty pussy, don’t talk to me. Jiselle, why you bring this bitch in my fucking house? You know I don’t even click with her nasty ass like that,” I spat.

“Bryce, you don’t have to talk to that girl like that.”

“If she didn’t want to be talked to any ole kind of way, she should have kept her ass waiting on the opposite side of the door, instead of coming in here with you.”

“I just came in here to let you know that Mom wants the two of you to call her. I already spoke to her.”

“Ight, now get the fuck out and take that stank pussy hoe with you.”

“My pussy wasn’t stank when you were deep sea diving in my shit,” Milani sassed, finally speaking up for herself.

“You’re right, it wasn’t stank, but when you burned a nigga, that shit became dirty and unruly!”

“Come on Jiselle, you knew these two were going to go at it,” Jinx said, coming to stand next to me. My lil bro knew me too well because I was liable to choke the life out the hoe.

“I already told you that I caught it from using public bathrooms and I apologized. How many times are you going to bring that shit up? Niggas give females STD’s all the time.”

“Bitch, you can’t catch fucking Chlamydia from a toilet seat. Fucking stupid bitch.  But you’re right about one thing. Niggas do give females STD’s all the time, but I’m not a nigga, I’ma man. There’s a fucking difference but your bird brain hot pussy having ass wouldn’t know the fucking difference. Jiselle, on everything I love, if you don’t get her out of my house in 2.5, you will be disposing of her fucking body.”

“Okay, okay. Damn,” Jiselle said, grabbing a hold of Milani’s hand and leaving out.

“I don’t even know why you let that bitch get to you,” Jinx said, going back towards the couch.

“Jiselle shouldn’t even be fucking with that bitch.”

“You know that’s the only friend Jiselle got. Ain’t no other chick going to put up with her bitchy ways. You ready to call mom?”

“Nah, give me a couple minutes.”

I went upstairs to my bedroom because I needed to calm down before dealing with my mother. Milani was my first love, and y’all know how crazy that shit could be. We were so wrapped into each other, or at least I thought we were. Apparently, I was more so into her than she was me. She’s the whole reason I don’t fuck with bitches who approach me. She was Jiselle’s friend, but was always in my face. After a while, she wore me down and I started fucking with her heavy. What I thought was love was only dick and money to her. A year into us dating, out of nowhere, it would burn when I peed and I had a little bit of white discharge. My ass went straight to the doctor because I needed that shit cleared up and fast. The doctor diagnosed me with Chlamydia and all hell broke loose.

I wasn’t sleeping with anyone but Milani. Between handling Black Rose Mafia and Milani, I didn’t have time to sleep with anyone else. Let’s just say when I got home that day, I tried to snap her fucking neck, but Jiselle saved her ass. Milani taught me then that bitches who were always in your face only wanted dick or money. She was my first and last girl. The only thing these other bitches were good for was helping me bust a nut. I know y’all probably thinking, well then what about Laci, but you can’t even categorize Laci with these other bitches. Laci never stepped to me, I stepped to her. I sought her out because I saw the innocence in her. I didn’t really need a lawyer for retainer because me and mine were too smooth to get caught. I actually bumped into Laci at the supermarket days prior to me going into her office. She was leaving and I was going in. She paid my ass no mind, but I was all in her business. I watched her get into a pearly white BMW and her license plate read Laci. From her attire, I figured she was a lawyer and I put Jinx to work. With little to no effort, Jinx found out exactly who Laci was. I then came up with the idea to have her on retainer. I know what I did was bitch like, but y’all just don’t understand. Laci was angelic. You could see the innocence she possessed just by looking at her. She was a breath of fresh air and I wanted to be the only nigga to breathe her.

“I know you said give you a minute, but Nazi just called. Her and Laci should be here within the hour,” Jinx said, coming into my room.

“Ight, let’s get this over with.”

I picked up the cordless phone that was on my nightstand and dialed my mother’s number. I put the phone on conference mode, so Jinx would be able to hear too.

“Gunz, Jinx,” my mother said, answering the phone.

“Yes mother, it’s us. Jiselle said you wanted to talk to us?”

“Will the both of you be joining me and your father tomorrow for Sunday dinner?” What was Sunday dinner to everyone else, was really a family meeting to us. We held our meetings twice a month, on the first and last Sunday of the month.

“Yes mother, we will,” I said, answering for both Jinx and myself.

“I don’t need you to speak for both of you. Jinx has a mouth and he should use it.”

“Yeah mother, I will be there,” Jinx said.

“Good, talk to you later,” our mother said, hanging up the phone.

Jinx walked out the room, not really saying anything, and I could understand why. Anyone else’s mother would have said I love you when she hung up. Our parents just weren’t like that. Having the type of parents we had was a good and a bad thing. It was a good thing because they taught us so much, and because of them, we are able to be in a position of power. It was a bad thing because we never felt that type of love we were supposed to from our parents. I didn’t care too much about it because I took the good with the bad and prayed for better.

* * * *

Within forty-five minutes, the chicken wings were done and everything was set up. Jinx was bringing everything into the game room, while I went upstairs to change into something more comfortable. I stripped out of my clothes, throwing everything in the hamper before jumping in the shower. I brushed my teeth and gargled Listerine in my mouth before washing up. It took all of ten minutes for me to feel fresh and clean. I dried off and walked into my bedroom, ass naked. I threw on a pair of briefs and sweat pants, making sure to spray my Guilty cologne. After putting on a pair of ankle socks, I put on my bred elevens and headed back for the game room.

I smelled Laci before I was even fully in the game room. Since the day in the office, the perfume she wore always seemed to heighten my senses. The smell was delicate and smelled of white flowers. I walked right over to her and pulled her into a hug.

“What’s the name of that perfume you wear?”

“You noticed my perfume?” she asked shyly.

“Yeah, now tell me the name. I told you I don’t like repeating myself.”

“Dolce.” She blushed.

“Damn, if y’all need a room, just let us know,” Nazi giggled, standing next to Jinx. Laci pulled away from me, creating some distance between us.

“Why you hating ma, damn,” I sighed, pulling Laci right back. “If I wanted us to have space between us, then I would have pushed your ass away,” I whispered in her ear.

“Enough of all of this,” Nazi said, coming and grabbing Laci by the arm. “We came here to play pool and get to know one another.”

“Ma, I’m down for whatever you’re trying to do,” Jinx said, eyeing Nazi, causing her to blush.

I took in Nazi’s appearance, trying to see what Jinx saw in her. She had a sun kissed caramel complexion. Her eyes were slanted like Laci’s, but her eyes were much darker. She had the regular nose ring, but she also had that other shit these girls be wearing, looking like a bull. Her body was straight and she had short pink hair. Not to mention, she was sporting a couple of tats. From her appearance, you could tell she was different. I guess that’s why Jinx was trying to fuck with her. He was different, but in a good way, and Nazi complemented him.

“Yeah whatever.” Nazi laughed.

“So, we going to play pool or what?” Laci asked, breaking out of her shell.

“Ma, you know how to play pool?”

“I can show you better than I can tell you.” She shyly winked at me, then went to grab a plate. I watched her grab a piece of chicken and bite into it. This is how you know she had my head fucked up. For a second, I envisioned that her lips were wrapping around my dick. I shook my head, laughing to myself because the shit was crazy.

“Ight, since y’all ladies want to play pool, let’s turn it up a notch.”

“You sound just like the dude in
Love and Basketball
. There will be no strip pool over here,” Laci said, biting into another piece of chicken.

“Trust, if you want to see a nigga naked, I won’t make you work for it. All I need you to say is that you want this dick and it’s yours.” I grabbed my crotch for emphasis, causing everyone to laugh.

“Ugh.” Laci rolled her eyes and went back to her chicken.

“Okay, so how are we going to turn it up a notch?” Nazi asked.

“For every one ball I sink in, I ask you a question and vice versa,” Jinx told her.

“Ight, I’m down. Laci, stop eating that chicken and come play.” Nazi laughed.

“Girl, that is the best chicken I ever had. I need to know where you ordered that from,” she said, looking at me.

“We don’t order over here,” Jinx smirked.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Nazi asked.

“You got a nigga that knows how to throw down in the kitchen. Be grateful.” I kissed her on the cheek, then picked up my pool stick, ready to start asking questions.

“Yeah okay. I do not believe that you cooked that chicken.” Laci was looking at me like she was searching for the truth, even though I already told it to her.

“Laci, that’s word to everything; I cooked that food. What the fuck I got to lie for? I’m not trying to impress you; I’m trying to undress you.” I hit her ass with the same wink she hit me with.

“Whatever, ladies first.” She walked up on me and took the pool stick out my hands. Nazi followed suit, taking the one Jinx had.

“Rack them balls up,” Nazi said.

I racked the balls up, then moved out the way to watch them do their thing. I wasn’t much of a pool player, but I didn’t expect them to be either.

“Laci, you go first,” Nazi suggested.

Laci walked closer to the pool table and lined her shit up in the sexiest way. She hit a break, knocking a solid ball in the right corner pocket.

“I guess we are solid.” She smiled.

“Ight ma, you got it. Ask your question,” I told her.

“Ummm, let me think.” She sat there staring at me for a moment before finally asking my age.

“I’m twenty-seven, I’ll be twenty-eight on the 23
rd
of April,” I chuckled. It was funny because I didn’t expect anything else from her. While Nazi set up to take her shot, I went in the kitchen, grabbed a red plastic cup, and poured Laci some Alize, and me a cup of that brown.

“Here.” I nudged her.

“Thanks.” She smiled.

“Y’all fucking cheating.” Jinx laughed as Nazi sunk her ball in.

“We just getting started. It’s too early to be a sore loser. I’ll follow the footsteps of my sister and ask you your age.”

“I’m twenty-seven; my birthday is June 16
th
.”

“Interesting, a Taurus and a Gemini. Laci, go ahead boo.”

As Laci leaned over the corner of the pool table, I casually walked past her and caressed her ass. She jumped a little, causing her to scratch.

“Gunz!” she whined.

“What, it was just poking out. How you expect me not to touch it?” She was rocking a pair of jeans that were a little loose fitted and a dark grey long sleeve shirt. A plaid button up was tied around her waist. Her curly black hair was all over the place and her glasses framed her eyes. On her feet were a pair of Nikes. Dressed up, Laci was gorgeous, but her dressed down made her flawless.

“That’s some bullshit,” Nazi sassed.

“Don’t be a sore loser ma; we just starting.” Jinx laughed, pinching Nazi’s chin. She swatted his hand away and started pouting with her sister.
