The heavy aroma of coffee dragged her from the depths of the sleeping
dead. Mia stretched her deliciously sore body and worked the kinks out of her
neck.
Dire’s
magic touch brought her back to life in
more ways than one.

She eased into the shirt he’d left crumpled at the end of the bed and
inhaled his spicy scent. Sandalwood, musk and a hint of something she couldn’t
reach. She briefly thought of putting on panties and quickly dislodged that
notion as his shirt covered most of her. She walked over to her bathroom and
began to brush her teeth. Her mind flew over the past few days that led her to
this moment. A sudden burst of self-consciousness overwhelmed her. Would
walking down to him be considered a morning walk of shame? She’d never had
casual sex and for her what happened between them was the polar opposite of
casual. Her heartbeat quickened. She set the toothbrush down with a shaky hand
and swished her mouth out with a handful of cool water.

What if I walk down there and he’s gone?
Or what if he’s not? What am I going to say?
Mia tamed her tousled
hair and left her bathroom. A caffeinated rush called to her. She would play it
by ear, not give too much away. How he enticed her body into pliancy with his
hands and eased his way into her deepest thoughts surprised her.

Finding Dire wasn’t difficult. He sat at her barstool counter with a cup
of coffee in one hand and the sports section in the other. He brought out the
sexy in basketball shorts she didn’t know existed, and sleep tousled hair. His
eyes lightened to a pretty shade of slate grey when they landed on her.

“Morning.”

“Hi.” Mia moved toward him to get to the coffee pot. Dire circled his
hand around her waist and tugged her to him.

“You look sexy in my shirts. Am I going to need to buy new ones?” He
pressed his lips to hers and coaxed her mouth open. Mia sighed into his kiss,
pressing her hands on his bare chest.

“No. Just bring extras. It’s your scent. Fresh washed shirts are no
good.” She pulled back and escaped his attempt to reel her back in with a
laugh. He went back to reading while she pulled herself out a cup and created
her seventy five percent
coffee
, twenty percent cream
and five percent sugar with a dash of cinnamon on top.

“Any coffee in there?”

Haha
.”
Could life with another man really be this easy? “
I suppose you
drink yours black no cream or sugar?”

“Black with two sugars and I figured you’d sleep in more today. It’s only
nine.” Dire set the paper on the marble counter.

“How long have you been up?” Mia slipped onto the stool next to his. When
their legs briefly touched, she forgot to sip her coffee first and sputtered as
she burnt her tongue.

“I went for a run while you slept.” He swiped her cup from her hand and
blew on it. At her scowl, he returned said cup with a wink.

“How many miles do you run a day?” She preened when she sipped her
sufficiently cooled caffeinated beverage.

“Five miles generally, ten if I need to work through something going on
in my head.” Muscles flexed as he moved. Mia watched him saunter to the pot and
pour himself another cup. She pushed the sugar his way caught up in his
swagger.
Holy fuck
.
That sexy specimen belonged solely to her. She needed to workout to catch up
with that hotness.

“I’m guessing you ran ten today then. All things considered.” Their
wrists rubbed when they set their cups down.

“You are not only beautiful but intelligent and totally wrong. I ran five
today. Didn’t want to be gone too long and make you think I snuck out in the
dead of night.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.”
Dire rolled his massive shoulders back
and stretched. She ached to touch his bare skin.

“I would’ve sworn you had a few tattoos. I saw a few on the guys.”

“Not my thing. Sorry to disappoint,” he teased.

“I think not having them is very sexy.” She hopped down, grabbed a
plastic bowl, filled it with cereal, topped with a dash of milk and snatched up
a spoon. “Come on. Let me give you the short tour.”

“All right.”
Dire stepped behind her and wound his
arms around her shoulders.

“Cut it out, can’t eat this way. You already know the kitchen, living
room and upstairs. Let’s head downstairs.” She led him to the finished basement
where Ashland sometimes entertained her girlfriends when they slept over. “If
it’s not clean blame the teen.” She never came down there.

“This is…” Mia missed her mouth. As milk dribbled down her chin, he swept
it with his finger and licked off the extra. She sucked in a breath and came
close to dropping her breakfast all over the hardwood floors.

“The cave,” he finished for her and stepped further into the room. “I’m
impressed and jealous that mine isn’t half as big or good.”

“That’s funny. Don’t be jealous, no one even uses it. Ash does once in a
while but since I can’t hear her scream for me to fetch things, she tends to
have her company stay in her bedroom.”

“Sound proof?” A wicked gleam lit his eyes. Mia set her cup on the table
and gave him her full attention. Dire ran his hands down her back. “Leather
reclining theater chairs, a projector screen and flat screen. Tell me there’s a
pool table.”

“Oh yeah.
I’ll show you for a price.” Mia slid
her hand down his shorts, wrapped her hand around his cock and worked him from
tip to base.

“Mia,” Dire growled. Shucking his shorts in record time, he picked her up
and slid her over his erection. Molten heat surged through her when he pumped
her on and off of him, her weight balanced on his arms.

“Don’t you dare drop
me.
” He impaled her on her
moan.

“I got you.” Gravel laced his voice. The veins in his arms popped out as
he speared into her, driving her into dizzying pleasure. “I’m coming.
Oh God.”
She clenched around him.

“Fuck Mia. Shit condom.”

“Just pull out but don’t stop. Don’t you dare stop fucking me, Dire
Sylis
,” she screamed in deep seated need for more. He
rocked into her. Aftershocks subsided only to erupt in full spasms.

Dire cursed as he pulled out of her. Mia slid down the front of him to
her knees and encased him in her mouth. His light grip on her nape kept her in
place. She moaned at the taste of her release on him. Dire flooded in her
mouth. Mia continued sucking him clean. She swallowed and stood up.

“Just think
,
we have time to have sex in every
room in this house.”

He grunted and pulled her into his arms. Lips crushed hers in an
aggressive turn of events. Dire licked, sucked and devoured her mouth. Mia
couldn’t get enough of him. Out of breath, she pulled away to get ahold of her
emotions and body.

“You didn’t have to do that Mia. I should’ve brought a condom in case.”
He ran a hand through his hair.

She slid her arms up his chest. “I wanted to, waste not want not.
Now about that pool table.
It’s in the other room with
a shuffleboard
and a fully stocked bar, locked up tight.
Keys are in a secret panel in the wall.” Mia sashayed past him to the secret
spot and lifted it. She handed him the key, her gaze straying to his naked
body. His posture changed when he opened the door and groaned. “Damn woman. You
slay me.”

Epilogue

“Really, Mom.
I go away for two weeks and come home
to find out you got married. And you…” She pointed at her new step-dad. “How
could you let her talk you into a Vegas wedding? You’re not crazy teens. I know
she didn’t go on a binger and get drunk, she can’t drink yet, and…for God’s
sake my mom makes lists in her sleep.
So not fair.”
Her daughter pouted. “I missed the first one because I wasn’t born yet. I’m speechless
and disappointed in your selfish behavior.
Both of you.”

“Ashland we’re going to be late to your competition. You can berate us
later. You have a trophy to win.” Her daughter stood there in all of her
teenage angst glory wearing her new cheering uniform. She grabbed her duffle
bag and
poms
and glared daggers at them. “We are not
done with this conversation.”

Mia swatted her butt. “Don’t be fresh.”

Ashland sighed and stormed out of her suite to the hotel elevator.

“Love, you didn’t think she’d give us a lovely welcome home did you?”
Dire chuckled and slid his hand into hers. “That’s the last time I have a
single glass of champagne with you on New Year’s Eve and fly to Vegas on a
whim,” Mia grumbled as they followed the shining star otherwise known as her
daughter.

“I was indulging your impulse to be married exactly at midnight on New
Year’s Eve.” When they approached the elevator Ashland moved to allow them to
enter and ignored them to finish chatting with her teammates. Mia cleared her
throat.

“Fine.
Kelly and Tara you know my mom.”

“Hi Ms. Justice,” the girls answered in unison. Their attention remained
riveted on Dire and giggles erupted from their mouths.

“Cut it out that’s my step-dad,
geesh
. And my
mom is Mrs.
Sylis
now.” The bell dinged and Ashland
pulled her two friends out of the car with her. “I’m fine, so long as I don’t
have to move and I can finally have a later curfew.”

“Good try kiddo. No later curfew and no you don’t have to move. Although
you haven’t seen my house, yet, I am partial to the man cave in your mom’s
house.”

“That’s just stupid. If you yell for Mom she’ll never hear you. You could
die down there alone. Get my drift.” She flipped her hair and adjusted her
cheerleading hair ribbons. “I have to go stretch. See you later.” She kissed
her mom on the cheek. “How about we plan a reception and let me be the maid of
honor there and you’re forgiven for being wacky crazy.”

“Deal.
Now break a leg.”

“Seriously Mom, no one ever says that anymore it’s almost as much of a
curse as dropping the spirit stick.”

Dire chuckled. “Let’s go find our seats.” He smiled as they ran into
Ryker
and
Sinclaire
, the rest of
his team members trailed behind. “I am in teenage hell,” Chandler muttered.

“We’re here to support our new niece. You got the sign? Teens need to
know they’re supported,” Officer
Mahone
spoke.
Quinlan and Rees rolled out the sign for their leader. “See it’s done.
You Got
This
spread
across the long paper sign with the team’s colors and signed by all members of
Station 17.

Mia laughed. “She is going to kill them for this.”

“What too much?” the guys asked in grumbling voices as they entered the
auditorium. Mia waved to the other Cheer Moms. She didn’t miss the drool
dripping down women’s faces when the group of men entered. She winked at
Sinclaire
and led them to their seats. The men refused to
sit until they saw Ashland’s squad and unrolled her sign. “Go Ashland. You Got
This.” True to her words, her daughter covered her face with her
poms
. Two seconds later, she pasted the smile Mia loved so
much and waved in thanks. The team performed a few floor tricks to their spot.
Mia looped her arm in her husband’s and kissed his lips. “You are so gonna pay
for that sign and I’m going to love watching the men eat gravel for
embarrassing her.” Together they watched Ashland’s team win first place again.
Life couldn’t have been any sweeter than being brought back to live by one
hero, sent from another hero on Heaven’s boardwalk.
