He rolled his eyes. "Tell me you hired that one then."

"I did. You'll love him." She gave him a cheeky grin.

"Him?"

"Yep, and he's cute."

"That's it..." he reached out and grabbed her, tickling her as he pulled her toward him, "he's fired!"

Chapter 14

Jamie was so tired by the time they got to the hotel that night that she laid down on the bed, and didn't remember falling asleep. The soft brushing of fingers along her arm woke her. She opened her eyes and realized it was morning. She let out a soft yawn as she rubbed her eyes and smiled.

Alex was in front of her, lying on his side, watching her. "Morning, beautiful."

"When did I fall asleep last night?" She glanced around and stretched. "I'm sorry. I should’ve had a cup of coffee or a Coke or something."

"It's all good." He reached out and brushed her hair off her exposed shoulder. "I stripped you down, had my way with you, and put you back to bed."

"What?" She moved toward him and rolled over to lie on top of him, clasping his wrists and lifting them above his head. "I should pay you back for that." She was careful with his right arm, not wanting to aggravate the healing wound.

"Yes, you should, but we have a spa appointment in about fifteen minutes. I’m good with sex, or we can get up and I'll make you a cup of coffee before we go. We can have a nice breakfast out on the beach after we get back from our couple’s massage." He lifted his face toward hers, and she didn't hesitate to lean down and press her lips to his.

A deep growl left him as she rolled off and walked nude and proud to the bathroom. After putting herself together, she got in her bikini and slipped on a pretty beach robe he'd bought her a few months back.

"Wow! You are stunning." He turned back to the coffee pot as she pressed herself to his back and wrapped her arms around him. “Why am I not surprised?”

"Thank you for doing this. I'm so glad to get away from everything." She kissed his back and moved to stand beside him as he fixed her coffee just the way she liked it. "It's ridiculous how crazy everything got."

"One thing after the next. It's like we couldn't catch a break." He handed her the mug and turned to watch her. "Thank you for taking care of things. I can honestly say that this is the first time in my life that I feel like I have someone I can trust, like, with anything. And everything."

"Good." It warmed her heart. She lifted the cup to her lips and blew on the dark liquid before taking a tentative sip. "What kind of massage did you get us?”

“Why? Because you don't like that deep tissue stuff? It hurts." He smirked and walked away to grab a shirt. She almost lamented when he returned in a pair of cream-colored pants and a beach shirt. His deliciously naturally tanned skin was no longer on display, nor was the dark trail of hair that ran from his bellybutton down into his pants. There was nothing she enjoyed playing with more.

"You're looking at my dick. Why? You want it?" He laughed as she swatted at him.

"You're corrupt." She walked toward the door, taking her coffee with her and ignoring the deep burn inside of her to show him just why she was staring at his dick. He was a god under his clothes. Plain and simple.

"You love me all the same." He closed the door behind them and took her hand as they walked down the open hallway of the hotel, the beach breeze blowing over them and causing her hair to dance about.

"I do love you, with all of my heart." She glanced over at him. "You planned all of this while you were in the hospital?"

"Yep. Nothing else to do." He winked. "Besides, I have several surprises for you and I figured this might be just the place to give them all to you."

"Surprises? I like surprises." She grinned.

"I'm hoping like hell that you like these." He opened the door to the spa and the smell of jasmine and salt water filled her senses.

She breathed in deeply and let out a long slow exhale, feeling better than she had in a long time. Surprises from Alex were always good, but having time for just the two of them was bliss.

"Right this way, Mr. Reid." The attendant took them to the back and stopped by the locker rooms. "The ladies are to the left and then men to the right. Please make sure you remove all your clothes and take the white robe laid out for you. When you're ready, you can meet up again on the other side of the exit door. You'll see what I mean."

The guy gave them a curt nod and left.

"Alright, see you soon." Jamie pushed on the door only to have Alex grip her hand and pulled her flush against him.

"And what if I want to go in your dressing room?" He brushed his nose down the side of her cheek and kissed her neck softly. "Would you let me in?"

"I'd let you into anything you wanted into." She turned her face down toward his and kissed him softly. "You're going to get us kicked out."

"Naw. I'll just buy the damn place." He kissed her once more before moving back. "Make sure you're completely nude. I want to see you laying there with nothing more than a little hand towel over that fine ass of yours."

She smirked. "Your wish is my command."

The massage table was hard, but warm, and the lady who worked on Jamie's sore muscles was surprisingly soft and yet thorough. She hadn't gotten too many massages over her lifetime, but then again, being poor for most of it left her at a distinct disadvantage.

The ocean breeze blew warmth over her, and she let out a long sigh, enjoying the serenity of the place that Alex had chosen. He would be in charge of booking all of their vacations seeing that he was so damn good at it.

Gratefulness blasted through her at the fact that everything had worked out okay. He was alive and healing, and Stephen was behind bars under attempted murder charges. Her sister was still missing, from what her father had told her, but they would find her soon. She was far too needy to try to do anything on her own for too long.

Things were back to normal at the office, and Paul and Mark were joking and hanging out together the last time Jamie saw them. She was grateful for Kristen being such a class act that the woman took the time to talk to each of the men trying to be a part of her life, and let them both down easily. It almost seemed that her denial of them was part of what they were bonding over. The thought of it make her lips lift up in a smile.

"Feel good?" Alex mumbled as he turned his head to face her. They were on their stomachs, and though her neck was hurting from being in the same position too long, Jamie couldn't tear her gaze away from him. His dark hair framed his perfect face, and his brilliant blue eyes melted her heart. He was the epitome of sensuality, and yet he was hers.

The same old insecurities that she wasn't nearly enough to keep his attention continued to well up inside of her, but there was no way she was going to voice them. There was no reason to get him wondering if she had a valid point.

He wouldn't do that.

"Yes, it feels great." She smiled. "The view is fantastic."

"The water? We can go out there shortly."

"No, you, silly." She reached out and touched his shoulder, dragging her fingers down his slick skin due to the massage oils. It might be fun to sneak off to their room for a roll around in the sheets while they were still so slippery.

"Oh. I'm thinking I got the better end of that deal." He wagged his eyebrows, causing her to laugh.

"What's after this? I'm thinking sometime in the sun and then maybe a nap."

"Naw. We're having breakfast on the beach with some friends and then you have to get dressed for a surprise I have waiting for you. The tide is rolling in so the weather is going to shift, from what I understand. We have the morning of this beautiful sunshine, and then by the early afternoon it will be dark and gloomy, but beautiful. The thunderstorm that's coming in tonight is supposed to be beautiful to watch from the balcony at the hotel room."

"Sounds incredible." She licked at her lips, loving the way his eyes followed her movements. "What friends are we meeting?"

"You'll see." He turned his head away from her and let out a long relaxed sigh.

She let her eyes move down the thick swell of his shoulders, over his shapely arms to the sharp rise of his rear. Tingling danced along her insides and left her imagining all the things she wanted to do with him later that night. Sex was only part of the experience. Sharing herself deeply with him was the real goal, whatever that meant.

"All done." The lady working on her leaned down and squeezed her shoulders. "Do you feel nice and relaxed?"

"I do. Thanks so much." Jamie smiled up at her and pulled the robe around her as she got off the table and walked toward Alex.

He was facing the water, a towel wrapped tightly around his narrow waist, and his hand lifted and pressed to a beam beside him. "It's so beautiful here. We need to buy a place out here. To spend more time doing things like this. Don't you think?"

"I do. I think you need to get serious when we get back about finding someone to partner with you, or at least step up as a lower-level executive to support you. The more you build up that first layer of management right underneath you, the more this kind of stuff is possible." She wrapped her arms around him as he turned and pulled her in for a long kiss.

He pressed his forehead to hers and smiled. "When did you get so damn smart?"

"I've always been smart. You're just a horn-ball and can't seem to get past all the dirty things you want to do to me." She lifted to her toes and kissed him again, running her hands over his rear and squeezing.

"This is true, though I'm quite aware of all of your great qualities." He kissed her again.

"Hey, guys. Breakfast is ready. Come on over." The sound of Mark calling out to them surprised her. He waved from a little way away and motioned for them to join him down the beach.

"Mark's here?" Jamie took Alex's hand and hopped off the deck before walking with him down the beachfront. "Wait. I don't have anything under this robe."

"True. Let's change first." He chuckled and jogged over to Mark as Jamie turned around and make her way back to the locker room. She made quick work of the robe and got back into her bikini and cover-up. After pulling her long blond hair into a messy bun she walked out and rejoined Alex, who was dressed as he had been before the massage.

"You look great. I love your hair like that." He took her hand, lifted it to his lips, and kissed her fingers softly.

"Good. It's a mess, but it's me." She shrugged and walked toward the intimate setup where Mark and Kristen stood laughing about something. "Kristen’s here too? Who else did you invite? The rest of the office?" She gave him a stern looking. “Alex Reid, if you plan on having us work…”

"No one. Just them." He pulled her chair out before moving toward his own. "Did you guys enjoy your massage yesterday?"

"You guys got here yesterday?" Jamie lifted her eyebrow as she sat down and pulled her napkin into her lap. A bowl of various pastries sat on the table between them, and she didn't hesitate to reach out and grab something that looked chocolatey. Where she would have been worried about gaining a pound before, she wasn't willing to let her weight or any of her past issues about it stifle the experience that Alex was trying to create for them.

"Yeah. It was a nice getaway. I'm heading back home on Monday and everything’s packed up. This was great of Alex to invite us on the trip." Kristen picked up what looked like a glass of orange juice in a champagne flute and lifted it up. "To three of the best people I know. My life has been blessed by each of you."

"Same." Mark smiled and hit his glass against hers. "I mean that about you three, not myself."

Jamie chuckled and took a drink of the juice before setting the glass down. "I'm actually really glad you guys are here with us. We need to talk about the wedding, and this weekend is a great chance to do that. I guess you'll have to come back into town when the time comes. Is that okay?"

Kristen smiled and glanced over at Alex. "You didn't tell her?"

"Not yet." Alex reached out and took Jamie's hand. "The wedding’s today at two. Your dress is in Kristen's room, and everything else has been arranged. These two guys came out early to make sure it all got done right."

"What?" Tears blurred her vision as she glanced around the table at them. "Are you guys pulling my leg?"

"Nope. It's all set. Should be beautiful." Mark took another sip of his drink. "Alex planned every bit of it, even to the point of having Kristen find out what dress you wanted to wear."

"How do you guys know it fits?" She reached for her napkin and wiped at her tears.

"We don't, but there is a tailor on staff here at the hotel. He'll fix it up if need be." Alex moved closer and pulled her against his side. "I love you. I don't want to wait another minute, and I don't want anyone interrupting our moment together. That okay?"

"Yeah. Better than okay." She wiped her eyes and sat back. "I can't believe you guys pulled this off. I'm usually more perceptive than this."

"You've had a lot going on." Alex squeezed her and released her. "Let's have a great breakfast, and then you and Kristen can go get ready."

"What about my parents? They're going to be upset about not seeing me get married. Well, my dad is." She lifted her menu up and scanned it, picking out several things that looked good.

"They're here. Your mother’s still sleeping." Kristen laughed. "It's just your mom and dad, though, so no worries."
