They both make it back to me in under a minute, but now I need to figure out what I’m going to do next. I’m not a fucking doctor, for Christ’s sake, but I’m all she has right now.

Dumping the water over the wound, I wipe the blood off again so I can get a better look at the bullet hole. It looks to be a clean shot and not too ugly looking. If all goes well, and there’s no internal damage, a few sticks and she’ll be fine. But that’s not my main worry. It’s the baby.

I’m fairly positive that in her stage of pregnancy, that the baby shouldn’t be this far up, so he shouldn’t have been hit, but that doesn’t mean that anything else the baby needs wasn’t. But without the proper equipment, I won’t be able to know for sure.

Taking the bottle of whiskey, I do my best to sterilize my hands, then start probing around the wound. I can’t tell if I feel anything swollen or not because of the baby. It worries me that she’s not awake right now. Did she hit her head when she fell? I can’t fucking remember if I saw her hit her head or not.

I wish I knew how deep the bullet went and to do that, I’m going to have to insert my finger to find out. Taking a deep breath, I stick my finger into the open wound. I try not to wiggle it around too much, but I can’t feel the bullet. That’s not a good sign. That means it’s lodged deep inside her or possibly in an organ. Fuck, I need to get her to the hospital now. She may need surgery.

I look up to try and find Michael so I can tell him we need to get her out of here when I hear Dani start to wheeze. She’s struggling to breathe, which could mean one of two things, possibly both; her lung collapsed, or it’s filling up with fluid. My guess would be the latter.

Going with that theory, I yell, “Someone get me a pen. Hurry!”

I hold my hand out and wait for someone to drop what I need into my palm, not even caring who it is that does it.

Once I have the pen, I stick it in my mouth to pull the cap off so I can pull the insides of the pen out. I need the outside of it to act as a tube so I can drain the fluid. Fuck, I hope I’m right about this.

Taking the knife back into my hand, I dump some whiskey on it. Then I pour it over her chest where I need to make the incision. Counting her ribs so I know where I need to cut, I take a deep breath before pressing the knife into the side of her chest cavity.

After I’ve done that, I take the pen tube thingy out of my mouth and dump whiskey on that too. It’s not the best thing to use, but it’s all I have and better than doing nothing. Blowing out a breath, I slowly insert my finger into the hole I cut and feel for where I need to put the tube. Finding it, I slip the tube in and feel a waterfall of relief wash over me when I see blood start to drain and Dani’s breathing start going back to normal. Or as normal as could be in her situation.

Looking up from what I’m doing, I see Sara, Harlow, and a few guys I can’t remember their names right now just staring at me, waiting for their next order. But there’s nothing more I can do.

Turning my head, I see Mack and the rest of the guys sitting behind some tables close to the door.

“Michael,” I yell but he doesn’t hear me. Trying again, I yell louder, “Mack!”

That got his attention so I yell, “She needs a hospital.
Now!
” I hope he understands there is nothing more I can do. She needs medical attention, possibly surgery. I’ve kept her away from immediate danger but if her heart fails or something else happens, I won’t be able to do anything except watch her die.

A mixture of emotions washes over Michael’s face, but the most prominent is fear. He knows what’s a risk and what needs to happen. For us to get Dani out of here, he has to take care of the guys outside.

When Rose yelled to me that Dani needs a hospital and now, I don’t know what to think. Does that mean she’s in bad shape or she just needs to go in? I don’t know, but I’m going to get her there if it’s the last thing I do.

“We need to end this. Now,” I growl the last part, but Blaze isn’t looking at me. He’s looking at his woman lying bleeding and unconscious on the floor.

“Hey!” I yell, slapping his face to get his attention. “I need you now, brother. In order to get Dani to the hospital, we have to go through these fuckers first.”

His eyes are vacant for only a moment, but then determination and rage takes over. Good. He’ll need that to get through the next couple of minutes.

“All right, this is what we’re going to do,” I start to say, but I hear one of the prospects yell over the chaos.

“Prez, we got more company!”

Looking up to where he’s pointing, I see on the security camera that dozens of bikes are pulling up around the back. Squinting, I try to make out if they are friendly, but I’m too far away to tell.

“Pork Chop, they friendly?” I ask, needing verification. They could be more Kings trying to take us by surprise from behind or it could be our sister chapters. I don’t know how much time has passed since we made the call, but it’d be fuckin’ perfect if it was them.

“Friendlies, Prez,” he yells with a smile on his face. Thank fuckin’ Christ. We may all make it outta here in one piece after all.

“Go meet ’em in the back. Give them a rundown of what we got going on,” I yell back, but Rose calling my name stops me.

“Michael. She’s getting worse.” There’s panic barely concealed in her voice and that means we’re out of time.

Grabbing Blaze, I look to Louie and Toby and relay with my eyes that we need some massive cover fire. They nod they understand and stand up, kick open the door, and those crazy sonsabitches start shooting like they’re in the fuckin’ mafia.

Pushing Blaze in front of me, we make our way to where Rose is crouched by Dani.

“What’s going on?” I ask as Blaze takes Dani’s hand and starts to whisper something in her ear.

“The bullet is lodged inside but I can’t locate it. It needs to be removed but I’m not sure how deep it is.” She starts listing off her injuries. “She had fluid building up in her lungs. I was able to drain some of it but the tube is starting to clot over. If that happens, she’ll drown in her own blood.”

Nodding like I know what she’s talking about, I open my mouth to ask what we need to do when Blaze beats me to it.

“What about the baby?”

Rose looks at him and shakes her head. “I don’t know. I don’t have equipment to check on him. I’m sorry,” Rose says. Looking back to me, she urges, “We need to get her to a doctor now, Michael. I’m not sure how much longer she can wait.”

I hear the gunfire wane for a second, but then it picks up tenfold, but I’m not sure who’s doing the shooting. More glass is breaking and people are yelling but I can’t focus on any of that right now.

Just then, Pork Chop comes running in, dodging bullets like he’s in the Matrix with members of our support chapter right on his tail.

Knowing that they came in from the back, I come up with a plan to get Dani and the rest of the girls out of here.

I spot our sister chapter’s president, Rocker, and motion him over. “Hey, brother. Thanks for coming,” I say as he approaches.

“Not a problem, brother. Looks like you could use the help.”

Nodding, I look down to Dani. “We need to get her out of here. She’s pregnant and has been shot. We have three more women, two of them pregnant also. My two grandkids are in the panic room, but we need to get them somewhere safer as well,” I say, hoping he’s catching my drift.

“Yeah, man. We can do that,” he replies without me having to say it outright.

“Did you run into any problems on the way in?” I ask, wanting to make sure the back door is clear before I send my family out that way.

“They had a few guys back there but we left our bikes right after we pulled onto the road. We were able to ambush them, so it’s clear now. But I’ll send a guy out first to make sure the fuckers didn’t send anyone else back,” he says, then motions to one of his guys to do exactly that.

“I’m going with. Prez, I’m sorry, but they need me,” Blaze pleads, but there’s no need. I need him there with them as well.

“No, you go. We’ll be fine here. Make sure our girl is okay and the others are safe.” I look to Rose.

“I want you to go with them. Help keep her stable until you get to the nearest hospital. But I want you to be there when they treat her. You understand me?”

Rose nods her head in understanding and raises her chin. “I’ll move Heaven and Hell, Michael, I promise. I’ll take care of our girl.” I don’t know if she realizes it, but she just referred to Dani as ours, and I love it. But that’s for another day to discuss.

Kissing Rose hard on the lips, I go to get back to where I’m needed, but Rose stops me. “You be careful, Michael. And when you come face to face with my brother, you kill him. You understand? You kill him for me,” she says with hatred.

I have no problem agreeing to that, she doesn’t even have to ask. “I’ll do it with pleasure, baby.” I kiss her once more, then we wait a few seconds for our brother to come back in to give the all systems go sign. I watch as Blaze picks Dani up and Rose hurries after them. Thankfully the bullets have slowed down some so they can make their escape. Maybe they’re running out of ammo. Who the fuck knows?

Other members of our sister chapter help the rest of the girls out from behind the bar and they shield them with their own bodies. I don’t worry about them getting the twins out. Blaze will know what to do or Sara and Harlow know how to get in there, they can tell one of the brothers. My family is safe and now there’s nothing left to do but take these motherfuckers out.

“What do you want to do, Prez?” I don’t know who asks the question, but the answer remains the same.

“We kill them all.”

Chapter Eighteen

“How do you want to do this, Prez?” Toby asks, and for the first time in a long time, I’m going to lead the charge.

Turning around to face the president of our sister chapter, I ask, “Did you bring any bigger or louder weapons?” I ask with a smile, really hoping that he did.

Smiling back at me, he turns toward one of his brothers and grabs a bag. “I thought you’d never ask, brother.”

We all kneel down and look through the goodies that they brought. I don’t know who they get their shit from, but it’s military grade and high firepower, that’s for sure. They’ve got everything from flashbangs to grenades. M-4s to AK-47s. They even have a few of those saw guns the military use; a M-249 that shoots over 500 rounds. I may have to get us a few of these. They may come in handy.

We probably won’t even use most of this, but it’s nice to know we have it.

“All right, the back is clear, so I want Jax and Louie to stay here with Bulldog and a few others from the support chapter. The rest of us will split into two groups and go out the back. Flank both sides. The guys inside will keep them distracted while we get set up, then we’ll take them from the sides,” I say, setting the plan up.

Everyone nods in agreement.

Looking back to Rocker, I ask, “Before you came in, were you able to get a good look at their set up out front at all or how many are left?” It would be good information to have before we move forward with this plan, but if not, we’ll move ahead anyway.

Rocker replies, “I was able to count at least ten. They’re all spread out, but most of them are in the middle, so my guess is the higher ranks are there.”

Nodding, I put the plan into action. “All right, brothers. Let’s do this.”

Those of us that are going out back take most of the M-4s and hand guns. I grab a few grenades too just in case, but we left the AK-47s and M-249 saw guns, which will shoot off more rounds. It’s perfect for what they need and will maybe lay a few fuckers out in the process.

Everyone except those staying inside head toward the back door. We’re only going to have one shot at this, so we need to make sure we do it right.

I can hear the boys inside yelling and making a bunch of noise and shooting like crazy, trying to make it seem like we are all still inside. Good. Hopefully it works and allows us to get outside where we need to be.

Listening to it all, it’s almost comical, but this isn’t a laughing matter. Maybe one day after all the dust settles we can look back on this and have a good laugh, but not today. Today, we need to be machines, killing everyone that comes in our path. We need to get this done so we can get to Dani and the rest of the girls. They need us now more than ever.

A text message goes off on my phone from the guys inside to start the countdown once we are set up. I nod to Toby so he can send a message back that we are all set.

Once we hit the end of the countdown, the guys inside use the saw guns to lay down heavy fire. I just hope that they don’t kill Brutus or Gutter in the process. Those fuckers are mine.

Twenty seconds later, the heavy fire ceases. I nod to my brothers outside with me. It’s our turn now.

I try to see if I can spot the fuckers that I want the privilege of killing but everything is too chaotic. Bullets flying, men shouting, and adrenaline spiking.

It only takes a few seconds before everything goes quiet. Most of the men in front of us are dead, bleeding out on the ground. I can see a few men in the middle hunkered down, but I can’t tell who they are or if they are injured.

The door to the clubhouse opens and I know my brothers are coming out to join us.

Suddenly, one of the men starts shooting at us, but one of mine quickly puts an end to him. Now, we see two sets of hands fly up in surrender. Fucking pussies. But I’m thankful because that means we can get this over with and get to the hospital.

We all make our way toward the middle and kick all the weapons away on the trek out there just in case someone is still alive and decides to get a hero complex.

Bodies of at least ten men are scattered around and blood and guts are everywhere. They all look dead, but I can’t be sure. I think most of these men were hit from the cover fire. It was meant as a distraction, but it turned into something so much sweeter.

So far, I haven’t laid eyes on Brutus or Gutter, so I pray that they are the two pussies surrendering a few feet away. I still can’t see their faces because they have their heads down. In shame or fear, I’m not sure, but they should feel both.

When we get to the middle of the parking lot and am standing in front of the men, I yell, “Stand up.”

They don’t hesitate, maybe hoping that if they follow our demands we will let them live.
Not a fucking chance
.

When their faces raise, I’m thrilled to see that one of the men is Rose’s brother, Brutus. The other man isn’t looking at me, so I can’t be sure, but I’m pretty positive that he’s Gutter. The president of the club that tried to take down mine. And the man that tried to take Rose away from me.

“Well, well, well, look what we got here. My woman’s piece of shit fuckin’ brother and the dickwad president who thought he could take her away from me and keep her as his own,” I snarl at the two pussies who aren’t so fucking tough now that they’re surrounded.

“You want them both, Prez, or you want us to take PussyGutter?” Rocker asks, but I just smile my answer.

“Ah, you want to have all the fun,” Rocker mock complains, but I know he’s got no problem with me finishing my business.

“Line ’em up,” I yell and I watch as Louie and Toby grab them and force them down on their knees.

The both struggle a bit on their way down, but they know it’s futile. They’re done for and there’s nothing they can do to stop it.

Starting with Gutter, I stand right in front of him. “Your first mistake was thinking you could take my club and still live to breathe another day. But your biggest mistake was thinking you could take my woman and make her yours. You’re fucked in the head, but lucky for you, I have a solution for that,” I growl before putting a bullet in his skull. I wish I could make it last longer so he could feel the pain I want to inflict on his body, but there’s not time.

Before his body even hits the floor, I move on to her brother, Brutus. “And you,” I say, holding the gun right to his fucking head. “You beat her, broke her bones, and probably did a number of other things to my woman, and for what? To feel like you’re a man? To feel powerful?” I ask, but I don’t expect an answer in return, and he doesn’t waste his breath giving me one. “I’d love to take my time on you and break every single one of your bones to make up for the pain you caused Rose, but my daughter and my woman are waiting for me. And frankly, you’re not worth it. Not to me, and not to her.” Cocking the gun, I say one last thing before I end his life. “This is for Rose, you piece of fuckin’ shit.” With that, I end his life in one shot, but it’s not enough. Once he hits the ground, I empty out the rest of my clip into his lifeless body.

It still doesn’t make me feel better, but at least I know Rose will be safe for the rest of her life and she’ll never have to worry about her brother finding her or taking her again.

Now, I just need to make sure my daughter and grandson make it through the night.

Rose

One of the guys had a van in the back so we were able to load Dani in there. While I was getting her situated, Blaze made sure that the other girls had the twins and directed the man he tasked with protecting them where to go before he jumps into the van with me to help with Dani.

I don’t know if they left before us or if it was the other way around, but I didn’t have time to think about it. We had to get Dani to the hospital. She’s stable, or as stable as she can get right now, but it won’t last long. She needs a doctor and medical supplies I don’t have. And possibly surgery.

The driver and passenger I suspect is with the other club because I’ve never seen them before. I don’t question them or worry about who they are though. Blaze is with us and I know Michael wouldn’t send us off with them if he didn’t trust them.

On our way down the road heading into town, I noticed a lump of something that looks sort of like a body. I ask the guys to stop, but Blaze looks at me like I’m out of my mind.

As we get closer though, I know exactly who it is and yell, “Stop the fucking van. We have to stop. That’s Tyke and he’s hurt!”

The van skids to a stop and the two guys in the front jump out with me following close behind. When we make it to the body, I can see right away that I was right. This is Tyke, but I knew it was. There’s no way I’ll ever be able to get what he looked like after they beat him out of my head. Checking for a pulse, I feel one but it’s very faint.

“Get him in the van. We need to get him to the hospital fast,” I say, honestly not sure at this point who is worse; Dani or Tyke.

We make it to the hospital in Dixon within five minutes, which is perfect because the tube I put in Dani’s chest is almost completely clogged and I fear she’ll suffocate if they don’t do something about the fluid build-up soon.

And Tyke, I have no idea what his injuries are because I was afraid to touch him too much without having equipment around to save his life if he flat-lined on me.

I have the guys pull into the emergency entrance and as soon as we stop, I have one of them run in to grab two stretchers, not even bother to get a nurse or doctor. I can get that shit figured out when I get in there.

Once the stretcher is outside the van, Blaze helps me load Dani on it just as personnel start to run outside to see what we’re doing. As soon as Dani’s on the stretcher, I turn to help the guys put Tyke on one.

“I’m Nurse Rose Chamberlain, formally from St. Matthews hospital in Gibson. The patient has a GSW to the abdomen and she’s about five months pregnant. Her lung filled with blood about twenty minutes ago so I inserted a makeshift tube to last until we got here, but it’s clogging up fast. The bullet is still lodged inside though. I’m not sure where.” I give them all the information I have and help them wheel her inside.

“What’s her name?” one of the doctors asks.

“Danielle DeChenne,” Blaze answers before I do, which I’m glad, because I didn’t know her last name. How is that possible? I feel like I’ve known this woman for years instead of months, but I don’t know her last name?
That’s pathetic, Rose.

“The second patient was beaten with a crowbar and left for dead. I don’t know what his injuries are, but they are extensive,” I tell them.

We’re almost to the doors were it says
‘Personnel Only’
and the other nurses try to stop me from moving forward with Dani. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but you’ll have to wait out here.”

Knowing I can’t very well go with them both, I decide to keep my word when it comes to Dani.

“I understand, but this woman and man are my patients. I can’t go with both, but I will be going with Danielle. You can check my credentials if you need to, but she doesn’t have time for that. But I can assure you I have more time in than you’ve probably been alive,” I say with pride and a little bit of attitude, but who fucking cares? This is Michael’s daughter and I promised him I wouldn’t let her out of my sight, and I don’t plan to.

“Let her come, Denise. She’s fine,” the doctor orders and I almost want to stick my tongue out at this Nurse Denise, but I’m adult enough not to actually do it. Doesn’t mean I didn’t think it though.

One doctor takes control of Tyke’s care and the other doctor takes care of Dani. He checks her vitals before checking for signs of life from the baby she’s carrying. “Baby’s heartbeat is strong,” he says to no one in particular, and then continues on with his assessment.

Even though I told Michael I wouldn’t let her out of my sight, I let the doctors and nurses do their thing without interfering. I’m here if they need me, but otherwise, I’m just here for Dani. Unless I see them doing something wrong, then all bets are off and these assholes are going to hear about it.

“Her lung is collapsing from the fluid and we need to get the bullet out. Call up to surgery and tell them to get prepped,” he calls out to the nurses, then turns to me. “I understand she’s your patient, but I’m going to have to ask you to wait outside during surgery. I’ll allow you to spectate, but you can’t be in the OR.”

Because surgery was never my strong suit and I’d just be in the way, I concede to his orders.

They rush Dani off to prep, but I hold back for a moment, needing to check on Tyke.

“What’s going on? Is he okay?” I ask the doctor working on him.

“He’s been badly beaten. I have to take him in for surgery to fix the damage done and stop the internal bleeding,” the doctor tells me.

“Will he be in the operating room next to the girl he came in here with?” I ask, hoping that’s how this hospital works, that way I can keep an eye on both of them.
