Chapter 14: The Proposal

I looked at my mother and gave her a hug. This was one of the realest moments we have had since the day she apologized sincerely for all the pain she’d caused. I was moved with tears. I can hear the people fill the church. I knew that it was time to wrap things up.

I opened my mouth and continued with this good wisdom. The emotions of love and overcoming filled my body, but I pressed on.

Well ladies; it was two years ago, and I was looking a hot mess. I had come out of surgery from getting my gallbladder taken out.. The two most important people of my life were there. I lost so much blood. I thought my life was over. But God spared my life. The nurse came in, Lee and Mom left the recovery room. The nurse shot the good stuff through my IV. I fell into a deep peaceful sleep.

********

I was awoken by the sound of my lovely children one by one.  I looked around the room; saw no Lee or my mother. The room was filled with so many balloons and flowers.

Sapphire gave me a kiss, “Hey old lady.”

“Hey boo.” I said very woozy from the drugs.

“Where are your daddy and your grandma?” I sat up on the bed to get comfortable enough to chill with all seven of my babies.

“They went to the store; they’ll be right back real soon mom.”

I hugged my children 1 by 1 and loved on them. I heard this beautiful music getting closer to my room. My mom walked in and she had this proud look on her face. Shortly thereafter the music got closer and sounded familiar.

The children all moved on one side of the room. I asked “What is wrong with you all.”

My doctor and nurse came in the room. I panicked thinking that something was wrong and were about to dish out some troubling news about my health. But no; that was far from what I was expecting.

A band that played soft violins came into my room. They had on black suits and white gloves. I thought that Lee was being his typical romantic self.

Kem,
the singer
walked into the room, my heart dropped and face lit up like Las Vega at night. He sang me and Lee’s song
‘Heaven’.
I listened in love and adoration all the way to the last few words
, “I spent my lifetime only to find heavens in you
.”

Kem gave me a kiss on the cheek, “Congratulations, may your life be filled with joy unspeakable.” He walked out of the room.

Next Lee came into the room rolling a cart that had a silver platter on top of it and a dozen 12 stemmed roses. I was moved by the whole situation except for the fact that I was not hungry.

Lee spoke with so much emotion, I never saw him in this manner. I knew that he loved me, but that moment made our love stronger than two oxen able to pull the world into peace and harmony.

“I thought you might be tired of the hospital food so I decided to bless you.” My man had said.

“Thank you but I’m not hungry Lee,” I said as I pulled the top off of the platter.

Tears rolled from his face syncing heavily with mine. I saw the most beautiful custom made engagement ring. Its beauty had me lost for words.

“Queen today you have made me the happiest man on earth. My life has been challenging up until the day you allowed me back into your life. We have grown so much not only as a man or woman, but we have something so special. Since we have been together all we do is create. Look around the room we accepted each other’s children; we launched forcefully into the business world and became the power couple that I always wanted to have. I know it has not been easy. I haven’t been the greatest and neither have you at some time or another in our journey. I remember you saying that God gave me to you. Today I stand as a man and honor his promise.” Lee took my hand and got down on one Knee.

He looked me in the eyes, “There is no other woman in this world that I would rather be with, do me the honors and say that you’ll spend the rest of your life with me.”

I wiped the tear from his eyes and stroked his face gently. My eyes were so full of love. God’s glory filled the room just like it is overwhelming with chill right now.

“Would you do me; the honor and marry me?”

“Yes! Yes! I will marry you Lee,” I happily yelled and hugged my man.

The room and hallway filled with cheers. What happened next was unexplainable but I’ll try my absolute best to paint this perfect picture. Only the saved will get a mental grasp on what I’m about to reveal.

Smoke filled the room. There were a bunch of white orbs that turned into angelic beings. I was overwhelmed in the embrace me and Lee was sharing because there was a different type of love coming forth. The angels were surrounding us; covering us with their huge beautiful white wings. I heard an angelic choir sing, “What God put together let no man put asunder.”

I was the only one that could see this beautiful manifestation of God’s workers, but, the room felt it; as they reverenced the very presence of God. It was so strong that Lee and I began to tremble as the cool wind blew upon us. I saw these beautiful bottles filled with our tears from the past. All the hurt and drama we had experienced through our years of living were sealed. The tears were so dirty, filled with agony and the angles opened them up.

The tears became clear water. They poured them over us and we cried at the creator’s majesty. The angel’s prophesied, “This marriage is blessed, prosperous, loving, giving and caring with no harm. No weapon formed against this God united couple shall prosper. They baptized our marriage in the spirit as the glory left the room but not from our side.

I released Lee, and he looked like a new man. He has this glow and all that I knew that was harmful filling him with grief and suffering was gone, just like that God delivered us both from our past.

Everything lined up with one accord and blessings started to fall on me and Lee. I’m not talking about small blessings; I’m talking about unbelievable, bountifully blessings that were full of abundance.

Like mom said, things started to happen once he put that ring on my finger. Our businesses flourished though it seemed dark at first. We were doing it on our own; no one was really biting or willing to invest largely like we needed them too.

I went and played the Mega Millions' Lottery on a whim, and I won 2.5 million dollars. The following week Lee went played the number and hit straight, including the power-ball for a whopping 10 million dollars.

The next day we went to cash in on the tickets together. The miracles started happening when we got there. Lee and I knew the amount of our winnings but when the teller gave us both checks for double, we got the hell out of dodge allowing our wealth to flourish financially. We didn’t have to ask nobody for anything, we became our own investors.

Chapter 15: God Kept His Promise

The next two years were full testimonies. That spring we went looking for some land; Lee needed a warehouse for shipping distribution and manufacturing as well as his Energy Shots took off like a jet. We searched for something big enough to meet the needs of my fiancés vision.

We found some commercial property that sat on 82 acres of land.  There was a warehouse that had been barely used; in great condition. Lee got the number and called the realtor. When he got off the phone we held hands and said a prayer to the Creator.

An hour later a very old and withered white man met us on the property. We took a walk through and it was really in great condition. If we did make a deal today, the only out of pocket expenses that we would have to make were to put in some insulation and give it a new roof.

I walked off and let Lee and Mr. Hoffenburger handle the business side of things. After about an hour of what I thought was negotiating; they were talking about sports. I went and looked around discovering so much more on this land as I stumbled across a peach field. My eyes lit up because I was the Queen of making peach preserves, any type of jams; I learned how to do that from my great grandmother down in the country.

I knew then that this property was it; I thanked the Creator in advance and ran to my fiance. He was standing there in shock as he shook Mr. Hoffenburger's hand.

              “Honey what’s wrong?” I asked.

“The creator is good!” He responded and gave me a hug. I felt God, and I knew he did something for me and Lee.

“I’m dying; I don’t have a wife or any children. My cold heart and way of thinking towards women left me with a lonely life other than having more money than I can chew.

I took ill last year and was unable to complete my car lot. I was talking to your husband about you and your family. He speaks very highly of each one of you. I think that is special to see love in this generation. I never got to speak about a woman or feel that way about a woman,”Mr. Hoffenburger said with a gleam of delight in his eyes.

“Aww thank you so much,” I responded as my husband was still in shock.

“I don’t have long to live and like I was telling Lee; if you guys can handle the yearly property taxes of 500,000 dollars for these 80 acres of land. You can have it we can go to the bank and sign this entire land including what’s sitting on it over to you.

We did not hesitate; we scatted over to the bank, got the deeds and signed them. We got the deed to the land, and he gave us three more deeds that we didn’t look at because we were grateful for what we had thought; was the cash cow.

We knew it was of the Lord because after Mr. Hoffenburger signed on the dotted line; put the deeds in Lee’s hand. He looked at us and smiled.

“Enjoy a wonderful life together and always treat each other right.” He said as he took his last breath hung his head and died.

Since he didn’t have any family Lee, and I had a private service for our guardian angel that blessed us richly, it was the least that we could do for him.

                                                         *********

The day after the service; we went back to our property. On those 80 acres of Land we discovered a house that was being built. I told Lee to go get the other deeds out of the car. There was a deed to the house that read paid- in- full on the receipt that was stapled to the documents.

We ran into the home and it was everything that I and Lee could have asked for and then some. The blueprint was sitting on the floor in the house.  It was huge; too much house is what it was to me.

What got me was the receipt. The cost was worth 900,000 dollars. All Lee had to do was to call those same contractors and get the ball back rolling to complete the renovation.  We paid homage and left the plans exactly the way its original owner had already designed, it was with rich impeccable taste.

There was a shed in the back of the unfinished house. Lee and I broke the lock off the door. When we walked in; the place was full of brand new furniture. We wouldn’t have to spend a dime to furnish our new home. Talk about being blessed!

That didn’t take the cake. The keys on the wooden stand did; it was the keys to another warehouse. We got in the car and traveled up the road until we found the address that was written on the gold key. We got out of the car, walked to the building, opened the door and found that it was full of cars.

Car’s that people would pay a lot of money for too. They were antique going all the way back to the early 1940’s. Then you had Bentleys, Benzes, Jaguars, in different colors styles and own uniqueness because they were custom made. We kept Hoffenburger’s vision and opened a car lot and auction.

We changed the name of that county line to McPherson Plaza. We tore down those trees and built businesses for our children in this strip plaza. We had our own county, and we did big things; creating black business in a black community. Charity began at home we created jobs for our families. It gave them so much hope. We took pride in this project because it got 30 percent of our family off of welfare. We pulled them out of the system. We restored our people into their royal priesthood.

That wasn’t the only thing we opened, we took our lottery money and blessed our children. Brice our oldest son was gifted with his own skateboard company to give him a sense of ownership. Brice did the right thing and handled his business and became the man that his father and mother always wanted him to be.

Asia was our second oldest, she was gifted with her own photography studio. Asia took ownership over her life and handled her business becoming one of the most sought after photographers worldwide.

Mariah is our third child; she was gifted with her own sandwich shop.  That chic could cook but those sandwiches were like no other; they were so good that she was able to start her own chain; even reached over into China. She handled her business.

My Sapphire was a work a work in progress but Lee along with Lenora stepped in; molded her with motivation. He did what her father should have been doing for his child. Eventually she discovered that she wanted to do hair. We sent her to cosmetology school. Then she opened up her own beauty salon with the money she was gifted. She got it together and handled her business.

My Ruby was gifted with her own funds as she went off to college to study to become a pediatrician. In the meantime she loved to roller-skate; it inspired her to open up her own game room with a roller-skating ring. I’m impressed by Ruby because she still wants to become a pediatrician. I look forward to all of her achievements in life.

Lee opened up a chain of Laundromats. I opened up an open mic club. We made history and eventually as the world saw our work. We were on the face of Forbes Magazine. We made history.

I got up sentimentally, strolled over to Lenora, grabbed her hand and continued talking to the people.

This woman right here has been a blessing in my life. Most will not understand our relationship. She is the mother of Lee’s children and first wife. I have the utmost respect for this woman. She helped me with my daughters. There were things that I didn’t get as a parent but she did; we were a real village. We pushed our children to want more; when one couldn’t reach our children the other could always hit the nail on the head.

“I love you Lenora. I just want to tell you thank for every single thing that you have done.”

I reached in my purse, “I know you didn’t ask, take this and be blessed. I handed her a card.

“Denien thank you just for being who you are. I’m so happy for you and Lee. We have managed to have a beautiful family full of peace and harmony.” She opened that card and pulled out the check for 500,000 dollars.

“Don’t you say one word, take it and be blessed. I love you.” I kissed her on the cheek as she put the check in her bra. “We are family.”
