“You look beautiful, Mary.” Dakarai took her hand and kissed the back of it. Mary giggled and looked down, trying to hide what would have been a blush if she hadn't been a Vampire.

“So what should we do?” Mary asked, taking back her hand.

“Do you know many ancient Vampires, Mary?”

“Just one, why?”

“We have special powers. We don't share them with many young ones, but I like you and would like to share my past with you.”

Mary stared at Dakarai; she was very intrigued and curious. In all the time she spent with Sally, Sally never mentioned special powers.

M
ary looked around the hotel room nervously. She had never been alone with a man before except for Enri, her maker, and Maurice, her former fiancé, but that was ancient history. She felt nervous but not scared; she trusted him. She didn't know why, but she felt comfortable and at ease with him.

“I would have liked a more neutral place but we need privacy and quiet for this.”

“It's okay,” she said. “I know you won't do anything bad.”

Dakarai led her to a small sitting area. He sat with her on the oversized sofa. “I am from ancient Egypt, from the time of the pyramids. I want to share with you my life; I want to share my memories with you.”

“How is this possible?” Mary asked, baffled with this new information.

“I will link our minds. Please close your eyes.”

Mary looked at him speculatively. She’d never heard of such a thing, but complied, closing her eyes. Dakarai then put his arm around her in a hug and placed his head against hers.

“Don't feel frightened. This is part of the process. Clear your mind and I will give you my memories.”

Mary did her best, clearing her mind. She felt a tingle through her body. She felt Dakarai press his head against hers, his breath warm against her cheek. She felt things through her body she hadn't felt since she was a human with Maurice.

Mary looked around. The brightness of the sun was almost too bright
.

Mary squinted against it. She felt a hand grasp hers. She looked down and then up to see Dakarai, still handsome but different. He looked younger, and...fresh, perhaps an innocence about him but not as perfect—less intense. Mary felt an overwhelming desire to kiss him. She knew this wasn't real and fought the feeling.
This must be part of the illusion
, she thought. He smiled at her, his well-muscled chest bare with sun-kissed tan skin. He was so handsome, so toe curling delicious. Mary looked along the horizon and in the far distance and could see mountains. Mary was so stunned at seeing the sun again. She had no words to express how she felt to be sharing this with Dakarai. For the first time since being turned, she had a fleeting thought that maybe, just maybe, she could be more than friends with another Vampire.

“This is my world, Mary. It wasn't easy; humans were barely out of the caves. We had simple huts and hunted to feed our families. This was the beginning.”

Chapter 12

S
ally sat at a table across from Connor on their prearranged date. She wore her hair long and loose around her shoulders, and had on a sleeveless red silk blouse with a black fitted skirt and a pair of strappy red high heel sandals. She was stunning, as usual. Connor could smell the fragrance she wore, but with his heightened senses he could smell the scent that was uniquely hers as well. Sally had contemplated canceling the date, but after a talk with Abby she decided to go through with it. He smelled so good, like the outdoors and dark spices. A total turn on. He looked so sexy as usual, but now that she knew every inch of him, she hungered to taste him again and again. His blood tasted better than the sweetest wine.

“Sally, I know you’re upset with me,” he started. “I hope this date will allow us to start over. I want a real relationship, and don't say Vampires and Werewolves don't mate. I know it and don't care. I can feel something pulling me toward you.”

Sally didn't respond right away. She had strong feelings but didn't quite know what they were.

“Connor, I know you tried to resist. I may have been drunk, but I am very aware of how I acted. I think we need to start dating. I like you, and I want to see where this goes. I just need to take it slow.”

Connor took Sally's hand in his. “You are beautiful and amazing. I will go as slowly as you need. I guess our one hot night will have to be relegated to my dreams for the time being.”

Sally felt a clenching and tingling throughout her body at the thought of their night together.

“So I have never been here before. What is this place?”“It's owned by a werewolf. It has special menu options for me as well as some things you might like. They also have animal blood in the back if you’d like a glass.”

Sally opened the menu. One half was raw meat with cooking optional. The other side had sides and appetizers and a small salad section. She made her decision and closed the menu.

Connor looked up from his menu. “Decided yet?”

“Yes, I think I have,” she replied.

At that moment, a waitress appeared. A werewolf female with frizzy blonde hair and way too much makeup. She looked to be about fifty years. Her face had beauty and character, like she’d lived a good life. Because Sally was an older Vampire, and she was able to read a flash of memories being projected from the waitress. She saw a man; he was young and handsome running in the woods naked with the woman. They both transformed into wolves and kept going. She felt the love between them; he must be her husband. Sally smiled. She enjoyed being able to peek into the minds of others to see their lives; the joy and love they shared with others.

“I am Denise; I will be your server tonight.” She smiled. “Have you decided or do you need a few minutes?” she asked.

“I would like six T-bone steaks, raw, and a howl ale beer to drink.”

“Excellent. And for you, ma'am?”

“I would like the Filet minion, rare, with extra blood, scalloped potatoes, and a side salad with vinaigrette. To drink, I would like a white wine, please.”

The waitress smiled as she took the menus and left them.

Connor reached across the table and took Sally's hand in his. His hand was warm and inviting.

“I was thinking after dinner we could spend more time together. I have something special planned.

“Sure; sounds like you have everything planned out.”

“I like to be in control,” he replied.

“So you like control in all aspects of your life?” she asked him.

“Yes; I want everything my way, in my control. You seem to be the only thing in my life I can’t control and as crazy as it makes me, I just can’t stay away.”

“Please, Connor, don't change. I like you just the way you are. If you ever change because of me, I could never forgive myself.

M
aurice and Brian waited outside Dakarai’s upscale hotel. Dakarai had gone inside with Mary and it made him very uneasy. He had to put everything in the hands of someone he didn't know or trust very much, but he had little choice in the matter.

Brian, sensing the distress Maurice was feeling, spoke up. “I think he truly believes he loves Sally.”

“Do you really think so?”

“He's like you, when you speak of Mary. I think this will work.”

“If he fails, he will be eliminated. I will not accept failure in this matter.”

“I understand, Sire.”

“Call me Maurice; I am your friend, Brian. I know we had a difficult relationship before I turned you but now you are like me, superior and special.”

“I owe you so much; my life is now worth living and I have an eternity.”

Maurice with his good looks but sinister smile laughed. “We have eternity as friends, too. Why don't you go get a couple blood whores while I wait here?”

“Yes, that sounds like a good idea,” Brian replied.

He opened the door to the limo; it was a cool summer evening. He looked down the street to make sure no one was around and took off running at full speed.

drinking a blood cocktail. He watched a werewolf female across the room and considered taking her home. She had long wavy blonde hair almost down to her waist; she was average height, with bright blue eyes, and a luscious curvy body. She couldn't have been more different from Salihah, but he thought she might make a nice distraction and perhaps a challenge. Werewolf females normally avoided Vampires, but something about her intrigued him.

Anna danced on the dance floor, her body moving with the music. There was sensuality to her movements; all the men around her watched, clearly lusting for and wanting her. She noticed a Vampire approaching. She paused and lost her breath. She knew he was a Vampire, but he had the most beautiful tan skin and eyes that should be illegal on a man.

Ebo stared at her for a moment before he could find his voice. “I am Ebo. You are stunning. I want you.”

Anna looked at Ebo and laughed. “Look, Vampire, that may work for the human blood whores you normally deal with, but I'm neither human nor a blood whore.”

Ebo looked at her and just couldn't get the image out of his mind of her on her knees in front of him, sucking his cock until he came hard into her mouth. He had never had a werewolf before, but this one was so mesmerizing. Her beautiful silk hair would fall over him like a curtain as she rode him until she screamed out her orgasm. He shook his head trying to get all the sexual images out of his head. “I am sorry, Beautiful. Let’s start over. I am Ebo. When I saw you, I just had to introduce myself.” He held out his hand.

“Anna,” she replied, holding out hers.

He took it and placed soft kisses on the back. She blushed, feeling an unexpected desire for this Vampire she just met. She pursed her lips together and snatched back her hand.

“Beautiful Anna, will you do me the honor of having a drink with me?”

Anna looked around nervously. She knew if she agreed this would definitely get back to her brother. “That's not a good idea.”

“May I ask why, beautiful Anna?”

“My brother, Connor, runs the Detroit VC office. With all the Vampires around, he would find out and I don't want my brother in my business.”

“Oh, I see your dilemma, but to be honest I don't care. I want to spend time with you and if that means getting your brother angry, I am willing to take that chance.

A smirk appeared on Anna’s face. “I do have an idea, but it could be dangerous. Are you willing to risk it for me?”

“Let’s go!” Ebo held out his hand; she took it and they left together.
