Acknowledgement

A
NEVER-ENDING THANK YOU
to all these people in no particular order

To God
for making all of these possible. If it weren't for Him, I wouldn't even be here writing this acknowledgment.

To my family
who has given me so much love and support that I couldn't ask for anything more.

To Marian Tee
for being a very supportive, helpful and amazing friend! If it weren't for your non-stop convincing for me to release my stories and reminders for me to finish them, SFV would still be in the deepest part of my hard drive.

To Liliana Rhodes
for always having my back. You're one of the people who had seen how I struggled and there you were, knowing the right words to say to put me back on my feet. Words can't express how grateful I am for your words, for listening to me rant, for being crazy with me, and for simply being there for me.

To Alicia
who had been with me since day one. You're the very first person who knew that I was writing. I saw the very first story I wrote and read it again. After reading it, I regretted it. I wanted to die from embarrassment how much it sucks. I remembered how supportive you were. Honestly, you even had more faith in me than I had in myself. Believe me, I appreciate every little thing you've done. You've always been like my sister from another mother.

To Clarise of CT Cover Creations
for not only being such a great cover artist but also a great friend. I'm lost for words how you made my dream cover come to life.

To Flirt Publishing
for believing in me and my stories. This book won't be out there if it weren't for you girls! I'm very thankful to have found such amazing publishers. I'm never ever going to leave.

To you, the reader,
for giving this book a chance. Just the mere fact my book got you curious is already more than enough for me. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I do hope that you'll enjoy Meahri and Vhynce’s story and that it would put a smile on your face.

Prologue

To have a 7-hour break was something that every student would enjoy. It was such a
long
break where they were free to do whatever they want.

That was what most people think.

What people didn’t know was that once they experienced it, they would come to realize that it was something that every student would hate to the core. Especiall for those who doesn’t live in a dorm or anywhere near their university.

It was the same for the 20-year-old Meahri Lyfheld.

She was the girl who declined the offer of her uncle to stay in a dorm. She knew that her dad left some money for her but she was also sure that there’s nothing left after all those years.

Meahri being Meahri, as soon as possible, she didn’t want to be a burden to her uncle or to anyone else.

Now that she has a 7-hour break, she realized how much she regretted her decision to decline the offer.

She was just a normal student but little did she know everything in her life was about to change.

I don’t understand what the hell was running inside our dean’s head to come up with a stupid schedule?
She sighed as she fell on the couch as if she carried the world on her back.

It was the first day of her sophomore year and she’s confident to say that it was also the worst first day of school she ever had since she became a student.

She didn’t know what to do with her stupid long break so she decided to stay at her favorite coffee shop, Cafégroundz.

She loved the café especially the fact that not a lot of students from her university visit the place. She wasn’t a loner nor was she involve in any scandals that she had to avoid people from the university. She just wasn’t comfortable to see her classmates outside the university.

Cafégroundz was located a few blocks away from her university. Some may think it was weird since it would take you a 20-minute walk to get there but for Meahri, she didn’t mind at all. She actually loved it. She was one of those people who feel happy simply by walking.

There are more than 5 coffee shops near their university. Who would be stupid enough to go to a café 20 minutes away instead of a café 5 minutes away from their university?

Meahri was but she’s not stupid. She’s smart in her own way. End of discussion.

She knew that whether you’re a good student or not, you’d always choose to go somewhere near rather than far from your university to spend your break, unless you plan to do
something else.
She preferred Cafégroundz because she felt in peace whenever she’s there.

She sat at her usual place, the couch at the most end of the café. She was still in the middle of catching her breath when she heard someone speak. She didn’t have to look to know who it was.

The voice was so familiar to her that she had to smile as she looked at the owner of the voice who smiled at her asking for her order.

“Hey Max. Just my usual order.” She said as she took her laptop and phone from her white MCM Stark backpack.

“How many extra caramel?” Max sounded his usual cool self.

Max was a guy in his mid twenties. Maybe 3 to 4 years older than her. He was young and successful considering he already owned a café in such an early age. She shouldn’t have known about it but she did when they had a chat once during her freshman year.

It was already past 10 in the evening but she was so focused on her project that she didn’t realize the time. She was working on a report for her finals for the next day.

Max went to her and asked what she was doing. It should’ve been rude but the way he approached her didn’t show even a bit of rudeness at all. He was simply being nice and he looked like he really was concern about her.

She told him what she was doing and the guy was nice enough to tell her that he’d wait for her to finish the report before closing the shop. Since then, whenever Max wasn’t too busy, they always end up having a chat every time she visited the café.

“Do I look that frustrated?”

She saw him smirked. Before he could say anything, she beat him to it.

“Make it two. I have a freaking long break that I might end up sleeping here just to pass time.” She sounded annoyed.

“How many hours this time?” He still had the same smile but a hint of concern was obvious on his face.

When Meahri first found out about Cafégroundz, she never tried any other cafes around their university. With how often she had a break, she found herself spending it at Cafègroundz and eventually, she became a regular customer.

Since then, the two became close. Closer than two strangers but not as close as bestfriends. They were close enough for Max to know how long Meahri’s break was every now and then.

“Seven.” She sounded like she wanted to end the conversation then and there.

He didn’t have to rub it in her face. If he was inching for a fight, it was obvious that she won’t back out and he knew that. He’d rather shut up than get into an argument with the girl. He knew what was best for him.

“I got you.” He smiled and left.

What the hell am I supposed to do in this fucking seven hours?
She sighed as she lazily goes through her laptop.

After a few tries to find something to do but failed, she found herself looking around the café. There were fewer people than usual. It was probably because it was only 9 in the morning. It was so peaceful that she felt like sleeping. She knew Max wouldn’t mind.

She took her earphones, plugged it on her laptop and to her ears. She leaned on the wall on her left and closed her eyes wishing she could fall asleep.

Minutes passed by and she started to get sleepy. She should’ve loved it but even though she was a friend of the owner, it wasn’t respectful to sleep in a café. It was a café not a hotel.

She opened her eyes.

A second later, she closed it.

Am I seeing things?
She opened her eyes once again.

He’s still here and he’s even smiling at me.
She closed her eyes for the third time.

I’m probably dreaming. I’ll give myself a few minutes. Maybe after that, I’ll be fully awake.
Her eyes were closed but her senses weren’t and she knew it wasn’t a good sign. She debated in her head whether she’s awake or not and right now, majority of her agreed that she’s awake and definitely not asleep.

Few minutes passed by and she opened her eyes with the hope that the man in front of her was long gone by now but she was disappointed.

He’s still here. Should I be scared? Or maybe not?
She looked around.
I’m still at Cafégroundz so I’m pretty sure I’m safe. Maybe I’m just dreaming.
She looked at the man in front of her, the same man who she had been seeing – or dreaming of seeing -for a couple of minutes now.

She was about to close her eyes when she heard him speak.

She often put her music on almost maximum level but today, she didn’t. If it weren’t for that, she wouldn’t have heard the man speak. Was it a coincidence?

Shit! Who the hell is this guy? Is he even human? Maybe not? Maybe he’s an angel sent from above? If he is, he’s one goddamn gorgeous angel! Look at those blue eyes. They are as blue as the sky. I could stare at them all day. Damn are they beautiful!
She didn’t know why but the man in font of her suddenly smiled.
