Eyeglasses Case

This is an excellent project for beginners — and for anyone who wants a fabulous case for their specs or shades. Make use of your scraps and get used to customizing right off the bat. Create something totally personal for yourself, or make a gift for someone special.

9" square fabric scrap for the exterior of the case

9" square fabric scrap for the lining

Decide your size

Cut your fabric

Stitch and turn the case

Make It!
 

1.
DECIDE YOUR SIZE
. Lay your glasses onto fabric to see how much you’ll need. A good rule of thumb is to add 2" to the height of the glasses to keep them from falling out. Add just 1" to the width — so the glasses won’t slosh around in the case — plus 1" for two ½" seam allowances.

 
 

FABRIC RECOMMENDATION

It’s a good idea to choose a fabric with a bit of weight, especially for the exterior. Fabric that is too thin won’t provide much protection for your glasses.

 

2.
CUT YOUR FABRIC
. Based on your measurements, cut two pieces of fabric for the exterior of the case. Cut two pieces of fabric the same size for the lining.

 

3.
STITCH THE EXTERIOR
. Pin the exterior pieces with right sides together. Stitch down one side, across the bottom, and up the other side, backtacking at both ends. Trim the seam allowances, clip the corners (
see page
41
), and turn right side out.
