Chapter One

Kali sat at the table in the bar, her
stale beer and half-eaten fried food setting in front of her, with her arms
crossed on the surface and her eyes riveted to the stage at the front. Her
friend Chris was up on the stage, his fingers expertly strumming on his
acoustic guitar while his beautiful melodic voice lulled the room. His eyes
remained closed as his lips moved, flooding the once loud bar with haunting
tales of heartbreak and lost love. Kali knew the secret behind every song and
the tale behind every woman in them. She’d known Chris for five years now, and
had been following his music career before that. He was a struggling musician
who put his heart and soul into his music but had still yet to make a big
break. But he loved what he did and it showed in every chord.

“Earth to Kali,” Kali’s friend
Jasmine said from the table.

“Hmm? What?”

“You’re in a trance.”

“I’m in my happy place. Go away.”

Chris finished his song and the bar
erupted into applause. Kali and Jasmine joined in. Chris smiled, saying, “Thank
you! That was one of mine. You can get it on my CD, which is up here on the
table in front, if you’d like.”

“Why don’t you just fuck him and
get it over with?” Jasmine asked.

“Because we’re not like that. We’re
just friends. It’s the music. You know that.”

“I know that you’re raping him with
your eyes.”

“Acoustic music turns me on,” she
said simply. “It has nothing to do with him. It could be a three-hundred pound
guy up there playing acoustic and if it were good, I’d stare the same way.”

“Mm-hmm,” Jasmine said doubtfully.

“Oh shush and enjoy the music.”

The truth was, Chris was an
attractive man. His shaggy brown hair fell in his gorgeous blue eyes when he
played. And the way his face lit up when he smiled always made Kali feel weak
in the knees.

Jasmine checked out about an hour
later, but Kali stayed for the entire four hours Chris was playing. He was beat
by the end of the show and it showed on his face as he began packing up his
stuff.

“Need any help?” Kali asked,
walking up onto the stage.

“If you’d like, that’d be great.
Thanks.”

They got all his equipment packed
up and into his car. He turned to face her with a smile. “Thanks for staying
the whole time.”

“You know it’s my pleasure. I enjoy
it. I saw you sold a CD tonight! That’s great.”

“I know,” he said with a short
laugh. “I also saw you nearly harassed the poor guy into buying it for his
wife.”

Kali shrugged sheepishly. “He’ll
love it when he gets it home.”

“You’re impossible. But I love
you.” He gave her a hug. She returned it eagerly. His hand ran up and down her
back. He kissed the side of her head before letting her go. She was a little
surprised by how empty she felt when he was no longer touching her. “See you
tomorrow?”

“Absolutely,” she said. “I wouldn’t
miss it for the world.”

The truth was, Kali really wouldn’t
miss it for the world. She had skipped classes to see him before. She came out
once while she was sick and her doctor had told her she shouldn’t be out and
about. She had been to almost every show he’d had in the past five years. She
considered him her best guy friend. That didn’t stop her mind from playing over
the things Jasmine had said or the way she felt when he touched her. She tried
not to think about it because it usually gave her a headache. She didn’t want
to feel about Chris that way; it would complicate things too much. She was much
happier having a guy friend than a boyfriend. But she knew she was attracted to
him. Deep down inside, she knew it. All she could keep doing was denying it and
hope that eventually, it would go away.

Chapter Two

“So what happened after I left last
night?” Jasmine asked Kali.

“Chris finished the show, I helped
him take his stuff to the car, and we said good-bye. Honestly, Jas. Not all of
us hump someone just because they have a penis.”

“I don’t hump just anyone with a
penis. If I did that, I’d have nailed Jason Tucker back in sophomore year. I do
have some standards. But come on, woman. Chris is hot, he’s talented, he’s your
best friend…”

“Exactly! He’s my best friend. I
can’t just sleep with him.”

“Why not? I’ve slept with my best
friends before.”

“Are you still friends with them?”

“Well, no…”

“I can’t lose Chris as a friend.”

“The reason them and I aren’t
friends anymore isn’t because I slept with them. It’s because they were
assholes.”

“What if they weren’t assholes
until you slept with them?”

“Do you really think that by
sleeping with Chris, you’ll magically turn him into an asshole?”

“Well, no, but that’s beside the
point.”

“You’re making excuses. And the way
you’re talking, it means you’ve actually considered this as a viable option.”

“I will admit that I’m attracted to
Chris. But that doesn’t mean I would ever act on it.”

“You turn into a puddle every time
he touches you.”

“Whatever, Jas. Are you coming
tonight?”

“Nah,” she said. “I have a lot of
homework to get done after work. But have fun. And hopefully you’ll be coming.”
She winked.

“Thanks,” she said with a short
sigh before grabbing her stuff up and heading off to class.

Kali wondered exactly what Chris’
opinion on the subject was. Did he find her attractive? They never really
discussed it. He had a bad boy look to him, although it did not match his
personality at all. He usually wore torn jeans, black band t-shirts, and a leather
jacket. Most women expected him to start rocking out once he got up on stage.
And while he was perfectly capable of wielding an electric guitar and jamming
to some heavy metal, he was much more content playing his acoustic music.

So Kali decided to test this
theory, just for fun. She wore a short black skirt she knew Chris had never
seen her in, an equally black halter top, did her brown hair up nice and curly,
and caked on some extra make-up than she would normally wear. A pair of dangly
silver earrings and a matching necklace that accentuated her cleavage was the
icing on the cake. She got quite a few looks on her way from her dorm room to
the car and a couple of wolf whistles. Guess that meant she looked good.

Chris was getting his equipment set
up as Kali walked into the bar that evening. She ordered herself a drink and
him a beer before heading back toward the stage.

“Hey,” she said, setting the drinks
down on the table. His back was turned to her as he set up his speakers. “How’s
it going?”

“Pretty good,” he replied. “How
about…” He stopped mid-sentence as he turned, his mouth still open.

“Yes?” she asked.

“Uh…how, how about you?”

“Good,” she said with a smile.
Guess that answered her question.

“You look nice,” Chris said.

“Thank you. You look pretty nice
yourself.”

“I look the same as always.”

“That doesn’t mean it doesn’t look
nice,” she said.

He nodded with a slight smile.
“Well, thank you.” He turned back to his equipment, finishing setting
everything up. He hopped down off the stage and picked up his beer. “Thanks.”
He took a sip. “You’re pretty awesome, you know that?”

“I know.” She grinned.

Chris had a great show per usual.
He had a way of getting random stranger interest and into the show, cheering
him on. He kept making eyes at her the entire time, singing some of his sexiest
songs, and it warmed her blood and sent a tingling between her legs she hadn’t
felt in a while. She wasn’t sure if he was doing it on purpose or if she was
just noticing it more tonight.

He sold five CDs at his show,
without any prodding from Kali, and she could tell he was riding high by the
end of the show.

Chris’ car was parked all the way
at the corner of the parking lot, under a broken street lamp. He used his cell
phone as a flashlight as he put his stuff away. He shut the trunk on his car,
turning to face her with a grin. “This was the best show I’ve had in months.”

“I know,” she said with a grin. She
threw her arms around him, hugging him. “I’m so proud of you.”

He pulled her close, hugging her
tightly. He pulled back and searched her face. “You look really, really nice
tonight,” he said.

“Thanks, Chris.”

Her heart began to pound the way
his blue eyes dashed back and forth between her brown ones. His arms were still
around her as he leaned down, his lips touching hers. She hesitated before
kissing him back. He pulled back, inches from her face, breathing heavily.

“Wow,” she said breathlessly.

He turned, shoving her against his
car, gathering her up into his arms and kissing her hard. His passion poured
forward as his tongue brushed against hers, turning her body into a melted
puddle. His hands wandered down hers, into uncharted territory, making her
whimper into his mouth. She wrapped her arms around his neck, stretching
against his body, feeling every part of him against her. The bulge in his jeans
brushed against her leg, sending a shiver of electricity through her veins. She
ran her fingers through his brown hair, drinking in the sensations of his hands
grasping her butt, fondling her breasts, and sliding between her legs.

“God, you feel amazing,” he said
with a gasp as he cupped her breast in his hand underneath her shirt.

That
feels amazing,” she
corrected. As his thumb massaged her nipple, she dropped her head back against
the car with a moan.

“I want you so bad,” he whispered
in her ear, his free hand riding up her skirt, brushing against her panties.
She was already soaking wet and his touch made her stomach quiver and made her weak
in the knees.

She grasped the sides of his
jacket. “I want you too,” she said, kissing him. “I want you inside me.”

He pulled her close, kissing her,
ripping her panties down. He unzipped his jeans. He hoisted her up against the
car. She wrapped her legs around his waist and gasped as he buried himself deep
inside her. He kissed her neck, biting, nearly drawing blood as he sunk into
the flesh. His hands gripped her ass, squeezing, as he thrust up inside her.

“Oh my God,” Kali said with a moan
as he bounced her off the side of the car, his hands, mouth, and movements
rough and possessive as he took every ounce of her. She buried her face in his
shoulder, the leather muffling her screams as the orgasm ripped through her,
the force of it nearly knocking her off balance. Chris groaned softly as he
filled her with his warm seed.

He kissed her deeply, softly, as he
slowly let her down to the ground. He brushed her hair out of her face and
smiled a little.

“Wow,” she said breathlessly.

He kissed her again. She savored the
taste of him against her tongue, making her whimper softly.

“Wow is right,” he said softly. He
smiled, running his thumb across her bottom lip. “See you tomorrow?”

“Uh…yeah,” she said with a nod.
“Definitely.”

Chapter
Three

Kali tossed and turned in her bed all
night. Her mind kept conjuring up the images of Chris shoving her against the
car as he fucked her brains out. It had been the definition of a quickie, but
she’d had one of the best orgasms of her life. The way he had touched her just
right…it made her blood run hot just thinking about it. She was worried about
how things were going to be between them tonight when she went to his show. The
potential awkwardness from sleeping with him was always one of her biggest
fears, and it was one of the reasons she had avoided it for so long. Guess she
was about to find out how awkward it would be.
