“Tay, calm down. I’m sure the nice officer will let us in. We were told our granddaughter was involved in some kind of kidnapping attempt and she was brought to the healing facility,” an elderly woman’s voice spoke with worry.

Taurus looked at Maya who was trying to push him out of her.

“Move it, Taurus. My grandparents are here.” She looked around for her clothes, which she picked up in pieces.

“Here, put this on and get back in bed.” Taurus handed her his shirt. He had quickly put on his pants. He kicked her torn clothing under the bed. He walked to the door and turned back to make sure that Maya was back in bed. He reached out and unlocked the door.

Maya sat up in the bed nervous. All she had on under the sheet was Taurus’s shirt. Her grandfather pushed past Taurus when he opened the door.

“Baby girl?”

“Hi, Grandpa.” She gave him a reassuring smile.

“Oh, honey. Are you okay?” Her grandmother rushed into the room and came right to her side. She ran a gentle soft hand across her forehead.

“I’m fine. I had fainted and they brought me here to recover.” She looked over at her grandfather who was sniffing the air.
Oh, shit!
He could smell that they had had sex. She watched as her grandfather glared at Taurus.

Taurus held the older male’s eyes without flinching. Maya’s grandfather may be older, but he was a full Arian and still had a lot of strength in him. He was almost as tall as Taurus and still held a muscled physique.

“I assume you are Taurus?”

“Yes, sir.” Taurus reached out a hand to shake but the other male didn’t bother to take it.

“You promised to protect her, but you failed.”

“Grandpa, this wasn’t Taurus’s fault. He rescued me from the crazy male.” Maya wanted so badly to be able to get out of bed and go to Taurus.

“It doesn’t matter. You’re coming home with us.” Her grandfather approached the other side of the bed and leaned down to kiss her forehead.

Taurus’s face turned red with fury. How dare the male walk in here and threaten to take his mate from him. He was about to say something but Maya spoke up.

“I’m not leaving. I have a job here, friends, and…Taurus. I’m not leaving.”

Her grandmother turned to look at Taurus. “You’re Maya’s Taurus. So nice to meet you.” She walked over and gave him a hug.

Taurus gently patted the older female and looked at Maya for help. He wasn’t sure what to do. Maya just gave him a warm smile, which was no help at all. “It’s nice to meet you, too, Mrs.…”

“You call me Mary.  Wow, you are a handsome one.” Maya’s grandmother looked him up and down. A growling came from the other side of the room making the elderly woman giggle. “Hush now, Tay. You know no one else holds a candle to you in my heart.”

Her grandfather looked appeased when her grandmother released Taurus. He focused his attention on Maya. “Baby girl, clearly it’s not safe for you here. This job can’t be that important to risk your life.”

“Look, the circuit will be over in a few more months. After that, I can come visit for a little bit until the circuit starts back up again.”

Taurus growled and did not look happy.
Was she planning to leave him at the end of the circuit tour?
Over his dead body. He would never let her go.

Maya looked over at Taurus and quickly reassured him. “I mean, Taurus and I will come visit for a while.”

“A few months?” her grandfather asked still looking unhappy. He glanced at his mate and she gave him a nod. “Well, we will stay here with you until then. We can all go back home together until the circuit starts up again.”

Taurus paled and Maya gasped, “But, Grandpa, what about your home and your friends?”

Maya’s grandmother was beaming from ear to ear. “Tay! That is a fantastic idea. We can stay here and get to know Taurus better. And plan the wedding. How exciting!”

Now Maya turned pale. “Wedding?”

Taurus frowned. Why didn’t he think of it before? Marrying her would help keep her with him always.  Of course, this probably wasn’t the best time or the most romantic place to ask her.

“Come on, Tay, let’s go get settled into a suite. We’ll come by your suite later when you are released.” Her grandmother pulled her grandfather’s hand leading him back out of the door.

There was a very uncomfortable silence after her grandparents left. Maya felt a little bit scared. Taurus admitted that he was in love with her, but he never talked about the future. “Sorry, they can be a little bit overbearing. But they love me and they mean well. They’re my only family.”

“I’ve never had a family. The closest I came to have a family was June, a little halfsie girl with brown hair and green eyes. She had become my little sister the moment I met her.”

“You never talked about your past before.”

“It’s not pleasant. I didn’t think it would be something you would want to hear.”

Maya pulled him back to the bed forcing him to sit down. “I love you, Taurus. I want to know everything about you. The good and the bad. It helps me to understand you better.”

He took a deep breath and then told her what he had never shared with anyone. He told her about his time in the orphanage, about June, about being taken to the breeding facility. He quickly told her parts of his life in the breeding facility. He didn’t want to horrify her. When he told her about June’s death, he was shaking from trying to hold his emotions in check. He had never really cried for June. But now, he felt he could. Maya held onto him through the whole thing.

“June was like my sister. She was the first person and last person I ever loved, until you. You are my family now. And I would be honored to be a part of your family. That’s if you want me to be a part of your family.” He was worried that she wouldn’t want that.

Maya threw herself into his arms and kissed him. “Of course I want you to be part of my family. You already are. You are everything to me.”

“There’s only one thing left to do,” he told her.

“What’s that?”

“My beautiful, Maya, will you agree to be not only my mate, but my wife?”

Maya had tears streaming down her face. “Yes! Yes! Yes!” She stood up on her tiptoes to kiss him. “You have me and you’ll have my grandparents. Are you ready to take on this much family?”

Taurus smiled at her. “As long as I get you, I’ll be fine.”

Epilogue

Maya was nervous as she held Taurus’s hand. It had only been two weeks since her kidnapping attempt. The culprit finally broke after twenty-four hours of interrogation. He was a floating social worker. He was hired to handle ‘special’ adoptions. These were for halfsie children to be adopted to fake families. The children were taken and trained to fight in an illegal fighting ring. He admitted to reporting to only one person, Coran.

The IDJ followed the trail to uncover hundreds of adoptions that spanned ten years from fifty orphanages. Those were the ones easily found. The investigation was still on
going. They haven’t found Coran yet, but Trig said he felt that they were getting close. Maya was grateful that she didn’t have to have security anymore.

Her grandfather and grandmother were a big hit with everyone on the GCFA circuit. She had been worried about her grandmother because she was pure human, but everyone loved her grandmother from the very start. It made her happy to have her whole family together.

But her family didn’t feel quite complete. Not yet anyway. That’s why she was here again. Walking toward the playground at the orphanage. She looked up at Taurus who smiled at her with love and pride. She heard a squeal and then her name.

“Maya!”

Maya let go of Taurus’s hand and opened her arms wide to accept the little girl, Lucy, jumping up into her arms. She held the little girl and turned round and round.

“Lucy, you seemed to have grown inches and inches since the last time I was here.”

The little girl giggled. “I have not. I measure myself every day. I’m the same height as the last time you saw me.”

Taurus smiled down at the pretty, little girl. “Well, you certainly seemed to be taller. How have things been going here for you?”

Lucy shrugged her shoulders. “Fine. We haven’t had any adoptions lately.”

“That’s actually why we are here. We wanted to see how you would feel about having us adopt you?”

“Really? You want to adopt me?” Lucy looked a little bit shocked.

Maya nodded her head. “Yes, if you’ll have us.”

Lucy hugged her and then Taurus. When she stepped back, a frown formed on her face.

“Is something wrong?” Maya asked.

“If I get adopted, how will my brother find me?”

“I guess we’ll have to adopt your brother, Luke, too,” Taurus told her.

He then turned the little girl in the opposite direction and pointed to the people approaching them. One was a tall man with mocha skin and a tall woman with black hair. But it was the third person that walked between them that had Lucy gasping out in shock.

“Is that Luke?”

“It is. I asked Special Agent Roberts to help find him for you,” Maya told her.

“He looks different, older. What if he’s forgotten me?” Lucy rung her hands and bit her lip in worry.

“Lucy!” The little boy started to run toward them.

“Luke!” Lucy took off toward her brother. They hugged each other laughing and crying with joy for being reunited.

Maya reached for Taurus’s hand and he squeezed her hand for reassurances. “Looks like you are getting additions to your family.”

Taurus laughed, “I am definitely anti-social no longer.”

“What?” She looked confused.

Taurus took her into his arms giving her kisses. “Have I told you how much I loved you today?”

“Not yet.”

“I love you, my sweet Maya.”

“I love you, my Ape Man.”

*****

“Ugh. They’re kissing again.” Zara rolled her eyes as she walked beside Trig.

“I know, they’re way too mushy. Makes me want to puke.”

“I’m with you on that one.”

“Maya told me there was something you wanted to talk to me about.”

“Damn her. I was not going to say anything.”

“You planning to ask me on a date? I usually like to be the one making the moves, but I could change my mind.”

“No! Not even in your dreams, pure human.”

“Then what do you want?”

There was a long pause, then Zara stopped walking, forcing Trig to stop and look back at her.

“I want you to find my daughter.”
