Time was of the essence so I grabbed his hands and lead him to the bathroom and turned on the shower. After making sure the water temperature was just right, we stepped on in and washed each other up without speaking any words. No words needed to be spoken in that moment. We grabbed our towels, dried and got dressed.

“Hey, I’m sorry for snapping off and giving you blue balls earlier today, but you have to understand that I hate when you hide things from me; especially important things. Things that can change both of our lives. What you did today was unacceptable and you of all people know that.”

“I know and for that I’m sorry. But you have to understand that I am a man. A man who sometimes lets pride interfere with my judgment and today my pride couldn’t let you know how bad that I had fucked up. I know that this fuck up could have destroyed us as a unit. I would never do anything to intentionally hurt you or us okay?”

“Okay, I hear what you’re saying and I’m going to let it go this time. But there better not be a next time or else. Oh yeah, this is a warning. Next time I won’t be so nice. If I would have done this shit to you, you would have been bitching and complaining.”

“Okay, Boss.”

“It’s Mrs. Boss to you. You got that homie?”

“Aye, aye, captain. I got you. I won’t hide anything else from you. Just promise me that you will just trust everything that I tell you. Trust that I will make the right decision when the time comes. I may not get to tell you right off the jump, but I will always keep you in the loop.”

I stood up adjusting my sneakers. “Well speaking of keeping people in the loop, a code red has been issued so we need to get a move on,” I demanded.

Jacori jumped from off of the bed, damn near flipping me over. “What! You didn’t think that should have been the first thing that you said to me when you came back home? You played me.”

“Look you need to chill out. Nobody played you. Nigga I pulled a you on you, that’s the only crime I’m guilty of. Davion blew up your phone but you didn’t answer.

Jacori quickly hopped up and I went ahead and called Alisha again to check on her. After calling her two more times I hung up and dialed Makayla; she answered on the first ring. I let her know that Jacori and I would be heading her way.

Jacori was still acting like an idiot. He should have been happy that I actually came back around him after the shit that he pulled. He was lucky that I even let him feel this silk-lined pussy again, too. It was his damn fault that he didn’t know about the code red; he was the one in his feelings ignoring important phone calls. Sometimes he got on my last fucking nerves. If it wasn’t a code red I would have kept it pushing without him. He was acting like I hid a life changing situation like he did. He brushed pass me one too many times with an attitude, so I had to address it.

“Look, Jacori, you don’t have to act like somebody shit and pissed in your damn cereal this morning, ok?”

“Look Legacy, right now is not the time to be fucking with me. We enjoyed a great moment earlier, but now I’m not in the mood. You should be worried about Kortez; not my attitude.”

“I’m not fucking with you, Nigga. I’ll meet you at the trap because I promise that I’m not about to deal with anymore of your shit. I knew that I should have just left your ass like I planned. You better watch how you treat me or else.”

“What the fuck did you just say to me?” he asked, closing in on me. Jacori was now standing directly in front of me. If looks could kill, I may have died in that moment. I knew that I hit a nerve.

“Or else! Shit I’m tired of this shit. You're the one who needs to be kissing my ass right now.  I’m not doing this with you. I refuse to be exhausted over any reason other than sex. Be the man I married and cut out the bitch-assness!”

Before Jacori got the chance to piss me off again, I grabbed my keys and purse and headed out the door. It was time for us to go and it was best that we rode in separate cars. Quickly backing away from him, I turned around and left. I got into my car and sped off as fast as I could.

JACORI

Shit went from sugar to sour within the last 24 hours. First I damn near got caught up with some heavy shit on me, and then my wife accidentally over hears my entire conversation. She played my ass like a fiddle. Legacy probably was sitting on her high horse thinking that the little stunt she pulled earlier on me was clever. How she just going to let me give her the best orgasm that she ever had in her life, then give me blue balls in return for my favor. That shit fucked me up, but I couldn’t be mad at her; she was only trying to make me feel how she felt earlier. I didn’t see that coming and I knew I needed to do a better job of considering her. At the end of the day, I knew Legacy was hurt because we never hid anything from one another; I just really didn’t want to hear her bitching and complaining about what I should have done differently. Although I was stressing about everything, I figured that as usual, we’d get back on the same page. At the moment, though, I had the feeling that she wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.

Legacy was straight tripping, so I was relieved when she left out of the house. I waited until she pulled off before I left so that I would have a minute to think and clear my mind before I was around her again. I drove in silence because my mind shifted all over the place. I stopped by the gas station before I went to the trap. Less than 15 minutes later I arrived and noticed that everybody’s cars were present except Kortez and Alisha. Anxiety suddenly ran through my entire body.

I didn’t know what was going on, but I had a feeling that something horrendous had happened. Parking my car behind Legacy, I hopped out and walked to the door. As I turned the door knob, Javon opened up the door for me. Everyone greeted me before heading back to their seats at the round table, where we held our meetings.

Davion was the person that informed us all that there was a code red so it was his job to assemble and adjourn the meeting. Davion stood up and all eyes were on him. “As you all know, a code red has been issued. Kortez called me to let me know that he was being pulled over by the police, and that he had a few keys on him. We all know the drill. If one of us gets caught, there is a chance that we all could be caught up,” Davion shrugged his shoulders as he continued. “There are things that we have to sacrifice. And I know that none of us are snitches, and that real mother fuckers don’t fold, but in this case, Kortez is looking at some Fed time, so they are going to come at him with everything they have. That being the case, there is a possible chance that we could all be suspects. They may try to break us. They may try to get us to turn on each other. They may try to raid our spots. And they may even cease our funds. We know that they can’t search our shit without probable cause, but they don’t play fair at all. We must always stay ten steps ahead. Anyone have any questions?”

We all stared at each other. I needed to know more so I made it my business to be the first person to ask questions. “How long has it been since you last spoke with him and have any charges been made?”

“It has been three hours since he last hit me from jail. I spoke with my home girl who works down there, but she let me know that she would call me back because Alisha was calling her on her other end when we were on the phone. We ended the call and I’m still waiting on her to hit me back.”

Has either one of you talked to Alisha?” I looked at Makayla and Legacy. Legacy was still mad at me so she looked at me and rolled her eyes, shaking her head no. Makayla also shook her head no.

“Damn, this shit is crazy as fuck. Today has been a rough day for us all I see. But this is the way the game go,” Javon stated. I just gave him a look because he hadn’t been through shit.

“We all had a long day. This all comes with the territory. We must get rid of all this evidence. All this dope and cash we have stashed up in this house has to be moved now. This safe house is not safe anymore because if the feds are watching they will check our phones to see where we been, who we been with and how long we were at the destinations. Our phones always tell on us. We could be tracked back to this spot so we know what must be done.

“Burn this shit down to the ground.” Makayla chimed in.

“We have to compose a plan and we only have today to get it done,” Davion went on.

Everybody was looking around in deep thought. All of our lives were about to change. Either for the best, or for the worst. Our spending was now limited. We all had old and new money put up overseas so if push came to shove we were good. For now we would have to put out a fire by creating one.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Slipping
KORTEZ

Mane, from this point on I promised to do right by my wife. Every time I did some dishonorable or inappropriate shit to Alisha, she’d always find out, and/or some heinous shit happened to me. The saying you reap what you sow had showed up and showed out. Like for instance a few months ago, Alisha called me and asked me where I was because I was gone when she woke up. I told Alisha that I had just left the house to go get her some shrimp- fried rice with the spicy vegetable egg rolls she loved so much, when I really was at the casino with this cute redbone chick I met at the strip club named Treasure. Next thing I know, I was being tapped on my shoulder by a security guard handing me a sealed letter. Once I opened the letter it spooked the shit out of me.

The letter read:
Get me chicken fried rice instead with your shrimp fried rice lying to-the–tenth-power ass
. Sweat was pouring down my face and tension began forming in my shoulders. I looked around frantically for my wife, but she was nowhere in sight. I hurried up and got the hell of dodge, leaving Treasure’s ass behind.

Today was just another day for me to experience karma. I thought back to Alisha being very suspicious of Plum and I messing around. Her women’s intuition was right, but I wouldn’t let her know that. After today I would never look at another woman other than Alisha.

Alisha came and bonded my black ass out with money that I had hidden from her. I hopped behind the wheel of the car waiting for her to say something, but she kept her mouth shut. Any other woman would have went right in on a nigga, but she sat there texting in her phone like I wasn’t there.

“You ain’t gon go ham on me?” I asked nervously. Baby didn’t even look up from her phone as she answered, “I did what you asked me to do.” I waited for something else to go on, but she placed her phone in her purse and stared straight ahead.

“Look Alisha I…” she threw her hand so close to my face that I could smell her citrusy lotion.

“I played my role,” she spat as she interrupted me. “Is that not what you wanted? You wanted a woman that asked no questions, but did what she was told, right? This is me doing what I am told. We need to put some distance between us and this station right about now.”

Feeling like a bitch I just turned on the radio rapping along with Drake while she took a call. “Is that right? Well thank you for keeping me informed, hun. I will definitely look out for you tomorrow when I get my ducks in a row.”

I glanced over, wondering who she was talking too and what she was talking about, but the code talk wasn’t making sense to me. After a few minutes I gave up trying to figure it out. We pulled up to the alley behind the trap house and everybody appeared to be there parked in the backyard except I didn’t see my car. I looked back at Alisha but she wasn’t paying me any attention. I took in everything as we walked around to the front of the house. The grass was freshly cut, giving the appearance that the house was lived in. We walked up the rickety stairs to the screened-in porch that boasted a rocking chair, porch swing and a wrought iron table covered in old Jet magazines.

I unlocked the front door looking around carefully before entering. From the looks of things, the place appeared to be lived in, but the old lady that used to live here had been dead for a few months now. I looked over at the plastic covered couch and floor model TV before proceeding through the long hallway of the shotgun house. As I walked through the bedroom, everything was still the way Ms. Iola had left it. We went through the last bedroom and into the kitchen where we could hear talking below in the basement.

As I descended the stairs I had to admire how smart we had been in choosing this to be our trap. Most niggas used places that a dope fiend would frequent and drew attention to themselves. We took a raggedy house in North Memphis where an old lady lived and paid her a few dollars to build our fortress in her basement. Ms. Iola was the widow of a street legend named Danny Dolla and back in the day he used to rush shit’ but that was way before I was in the game. Once Legacy’s father put us on to her, I knew we were good.

“Damn y’all started the party without me,” I joked walking into the basement dapping up my niggas as they sat around a card table smoking. Legacy and Makayla snatched Alisha up, pulling her over to the leather couch that sat in front of the 60 inch flat smart TV we used for meetings. I would have to see what their little pow-wow was about later, but for now I needed to get this meeting started.

“Y’all know why we’re here so let’s get to it.” Everybody followed me to the far end of the basement to what used to be a laundry room. I punched the code into the wall before opening the door. Inside was a bar, our round table and chairs, and another smart TV that was mounted from the ceiling. As everybody got seated, I slid out of the room, opening the control panel so the cameras outside would come on, giving us a view of what was going on. Once the door locked behind me everybody got quiet.

“Y’all know that we in some shit right?” I asked looking over at Jacori.

“Yeah we took a loss today and that shit was my fault,” He admitted. Legacy looked like

she wanted to add something, but she kept her mouth closed choosing to shake her head instead.

“Yeah well beyond all of that, Alisha had to do some recon to make sure my car didn’t get impounded and now we all got to lay the fuck low. I mean, like we need to get out of dodge but we gotta do the shit in a way that don’t draw attention. I got peoples in the police department but shit is only good for so long. Who got any ideas?” I sat down giving the floor to whoever had something to say. I wasn’t surprised when Legacy stood up running her hands through her hair or lack of it. Her fade was tighter than most niggas I knew.

“I feel like the answer is simple. We move any weight that we have to the alternative location I told y’all about months ago. You always want to include us,” she pointed to herself, Alisha and Makayla, “when it’s small shit, but you need to take us more seriously. We need to get my husband’s car from in front of Breland’s…Speaking of cars, look who just arrived to our party.” We all turned to the TV to see Alonzo stepping out of my car. I jumped up, but Javon pushed me back down in my seat before exiting the room. Legacy sat down as we waited in silence staring at the screen. Javon walked outside greeting Alonzo with a gun to his back.
“Well I guess I underestimated his young ass,” Jacori remarked as they appeared inside of the house on another monitor. We sat with baited breath waiting for them to come into the meeting room. When the door popped open blood was gushing from the side of Alonzo’s head.

              “What the fuck?” I remarked.

“Man he tried me so I popped his ass, but he already had a wound,” Javon explained. I slid a chair out for him as Makayla dug into her purse retrieving a few restaurant napkins. I felt like Javon hit him to make himself feel important, but I would check his ass about that later.

“Looking for this?” Javon questioned stating the duffle bag on the table in front of me. I slid it to Alisha. She opened it nodding her head after she was sure everything was accounted for. Javon sat down next to Jacori like he had done something.

“Like I was saying,” Legacy stated standing back up, “We get our shit out of here, tie up loose ends, and move into the new spot I was telling you all about.”

“I agree,” Alisha chimed in. I waited for Makayla to say something, but she was more interested in staring at Davion.

“Man, this is a dope ass set up over here. Why would you all want to fuck it up to move somewhere out in the boonies?” Javon questioned. We all looked at him in shock. This nigga was only involved because of Jacori. He didn’t have a say in shit and that’s the way it would always be as far as I was concerned. Legacy rolled her eyes as she looked over at Jacori.

“I didn’t know this nigga had a say,” Davion commented. Javon wanted to say something so bad but he didn’t. He already knew that Davion was bad with his hands because he had tried him before.

“If I may,” Makayla stated getting out of her seat. “I think that Legacy is right. It’s only a matter of time before this shit blows up. Alisha already told us what happened with the police. You really think they're not looking for Kortez’s car? I say we blow that shit up too. I think we take this traitor-ass nigga and use him as bait to get Jacori’s car back and then we disappear for a while.” I almost started a slow clap because usually this bitch was whining. I couldn’t believe she was trying to be in on some shit. I guess these women really were starting to take a page out of our book.

“Well damn was I the only one that heard my baby? For the first time she is making some real sense,” Davion stated poking his chest out. I stood up looking over at Alisha and Legacy before letting my eyes rest on Alonzo. “I say that we clean house and do what Makayla said. I never saw myself agreeing with nothing a female said but she is making sense right about now.”

Scanning the room, I noticed Legacy and Jacori whispering among themselves, but nobody objected so in my mine it was settled. “Let’s get this shit out of here, torch this place, and get J’s car back.” I ended the meeting by smacking the table with my palm, but I didn’t like the looks of the faces as they stood to their feet and began the task of clearing out the meeting room. While Jacori and Javon grabbed all of the electronics, Legacy and Makayla slid back the wood paneling partitions, grabbing the bricks stashed behind them. Davion grabbed whatever odds and ends that we could use and started making his rounds through the house to make sure nothing important was left behind. Alisha kept watch over Alonzo whose eyes were about to pop out of his head.

It was hard for me to believe that I used to trust this nigga. He sat there greedily eyeing everything that we had worked hard to gain and I thought to myself that he could have been a part of this. Even though I fucked with him, I never allowed him this far in the process.  I knew now that he had seen too much, so after all was said and done this nigga was about to be a casualty in a war he was never prepared for.

ALISHA

Kortez was standing there all smug like he was the king of some shit; like I didn’t just save his ass. Had it not been for my quick thinking, he would still be in that jail and they would’ve nailed him when we killed that officer. They would have easily connected the dots and realized we were helping him conceal what was in that car. I would have to pay Officer Franks a debt of gratitude for not allowing a thorough search of the vehicle. She was from the hood just like we were, and therefore looked out for her own. I felt like the only reason she obtained a badge was to help further the cause of the niggas in the hood.

I stood over Alonzo with my hand tapping my hip. I had to let him know I was not to be fucked with, but I think he knew better than to try me. Javon was a punk for trying to hit a man while he was down earlier. He wanted to be important so bad but he was nothing more than a flunky.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Kortez asked with an attitude. I didn’t want to fuss and fight with my husband anymore because we were going to get through this tribulation together, but he was trying me right now. Instead of answering him I bit down on the inside of my jaw.

“Oh so you can’t talk huh? Cool. Well don’t have shit to say later then either.” He sneered before leaving the room.

“How the fuck he gonna be mad and you the one that helped his ass out,” Legacy asked as she filled up the duffle bag in front of her.

“I know right?” Makayla chimed in, “He actin’ like you the fuckin enemy. Niggas kill me sometimes.”

“Kay mind your business and let them two deal with that,” Davion warned as he walked out of the room carrying two heavy boxes. She closed her mouth as Legacy shook her head. Jacori knew better than to tell her to shut up so he continued to pack up and mind his damn business. For some reason he seemed to show more respect to her than Davion and Kortez showed me and Alisha.

“We got the last of it. Let’s roll out!” Javon commanded. We all whipped our head in his direction.

“Sit your ass down and learn something before you go making orders. Jacori you better get him. He knows he ain’t running shit but his mouth,” Legacy stated, rolling her eyes. Javon looked over at Jacori for help but didn’t get any so he stormed out of the room carrying the home theatre system. I laughed a little bit to myself. Once we had the room cleared out Kortez came back down texting on his phone. He was smiling a little bit too hard for my taste.

“Go ‘head upstairs with everybody else,” Kortez said to me. “I need to holla at Alonzo real quick.” He didn’t bother to look up from his phone.

“Stand up,” I command Alonzo. He looked from Kortez to me not sure who to listen to.

“Did you not just hear me say that I needed to talk to him?” Kortez questioned, placing his phone in his pocket. I didn’t give a damn about him challenging me because I was about to show his ass something.

“Like I said, stand up and walk on out to the car. If you hesitate I will put two in the back of your dome. Don’t try me because I’m already feeling some type of way.” Alonzo stood up walking past Kortez and I followed right behind him. We made it up the stairs and out of the back door where everybody else stood talking.
