Megan looked up at Porter, her face white.  "You killed him?"

Porter gave a brief nod.  "I had to.  He endangered your life."

Megan said nothing, but she knew the man's life could have been spared.  She didn't know if she could look at him lying dead on the ground.  "I need to go home."

Tessen nodded, sweeping her off her feet into his arms.  He'd carry her until they were far enough away that she wouldn't see the body, and she would feel safe again.  He nodded his thanks to the older man.  "I owe you."

Porter shook his head.  "You would have done the same for my bride."

Tessen nodded slowly as he passed the other man.  As they left the cave, he saw Jon, his old friend's assistant dead on the ground.  He felt no remorse for his death.  He hadn't killed him, but he had expected he'd feel bad when he saw the man's body.  Instead, he felt elation.  He was thrilled he was dead, and he hadn't had to dirty his hands with it himself, because he would have.  Jon had signed his own death warrant the moment he'd touched Megan.

They were well out of sight of the cave when
Tessen put Megan back on her feet, and guided her back to the house with a firm arm around her shoulders.  "Are you all right?" he asked.

She nodded.  The tears hadn't stopped yet, but they'd slowed some.  She was in shock, and she knew that was the real reason she was crying.  "Thank you for finding me."

"It was Porter.  As soon as I realized you were missing, I called him."

"Porter didn't untie my hands and hold me while I cried.  That was all you."

Tessen smiled and pulled her a bit closer.  They walked into the house and he pulled her into the living room and to the sofa, sitting himself and pulling her down onto his lap.  "I don't know what I would have done if anything had happened to you."

Megan shuddered.  "He talked about kill
ing you."  She wrapped both arms around him.  "I'd have done anything to keep that from happening."

"I love you, Megan.  I never dreamed that if I got a lady of my own that I would love her like I love you."

Megan smiled through her tears, her finger going out to trace his lips.  "I love you.  I thought it had to take months or even years to fall in love, but it doesn't.  You've become my entire life in just two weeks.  How could I ever live without you by my side?"

"So you don't want to go back to your century anymore?"

Megan shook her head.  "Of course not!  I wish I could tell my friends I was safe, but I can see that's not possible.  I would stay here with you regardless."

Tessen
let out a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding.  "I'm glad, because I can't let you go.  You're mine forever."

"Forever.  I wouldn't want to belong to anyone else.  I'm your lady."

Epilogue

"Are you ready yet?" Tessen asked, his voice full of exasperation.

"Do I look pregnant in this?" Megan asked, spinning so he could get a full view of her.

"Yes, but you are pregnant, so you should look like you are!"

Megan frowned.  "But I shouldn't look
this
pregnant yet!"

"What difference does it make?  We're going to a small party with friends!"
Tessen couldn't believe she was that worried about appearance.

Megan walked to him and kissed him lightly.  "I'm sorry.  It's just the only woman I've met in this century is
Jayn.  It's going to be strange to meet others.  I'm nervous."

"That's silly!"  He hugged her close.  "You'll enjoy all of the women at the party.  They're all very nice and will enjoy spending time with you."  He didn't tell her the secret, though.  He had to keep that to himself.

She nodded slowly.  "Fine.  I'm ready."

He took her hand and kissed it.  "You'll be happy you went.  I promise."

Megan smiled and nodded.  She would be happy.  It would be nice to know more than one woman in her century.  Soon, she'd meet several of them.  Soon, she wouldn't feel like the only woman on the planet.  "Let's go."
