“Relax. Doesn’t this feel good?” he said, his voice
almost taunting as he rubbed his cock a bit faster across her clit.

It felt incredibly good, and so she continued to move
her hips to meet his movements needing to reach a peak and no longer caring how
that happened.  He let go of his penis and pulled her closer thrusting his
hips back and forth so that cock never stopped stimulating her nub.  The
waves of pleasure continued to build until they crashed through her. She moaned
deep in her throat as Donovan slowed his pace and then thrust into her waiting
pussy.

She gasped at his complete possession causing him to
stop.  He waited for her to adjust to him. “Okay?” he asked.

“Yeah, I might live,” she managed to answer.

He gave her a small smile. “That’s good to hear,” he
said as he began to move in and out of her. “God you feel good.”  He
lowered his head to kiss her and then nipped at her lower lip.

She kissed and nipped him back, feeling wanton and
aggressive.  She was already feeling the arousal rise again in her body as
he plunged into her with deep hard strokes.  She tilted her pelvis to meet
his thrusts.  “Deeper, I need you to fuck me deeper.”

“Anything the lady wants,” he said as her grabbed the
underside of her thighs tilting her a bit farther so that his thrusts angled
into her more deeply.

He leaned down to suck and nibble at her nipples. “I
need to savor this. I haven’t had you in weeks.”  He teased her with his
cock, moving faster and then slowing down when she was about to come,
continuously depriving her of reaching a climax.

She thought she might go insane, she was so close.
“Please Donovan, give it to me hard!”

His chuckle was sensual as he pulled his cock out of
her. “Don’t worry. You'll get what you need.” He moved down her body and began
sucking on her clit.  She was so close to the edge, she began thrusting
her hips forward seeking relief.  He pulled his mouth away and thrust his
stiff cock back inside. Her pussy began convulsing around his cock as she
reached her orgasm.  He swallowed her cries with his mouth as he allowed
himself to climax, emptying himself into her.  He pulled her close hugging
her against his chest, not wanting to let her go after their passion was spent.

She rested her cheek against his chest and worked on
recovering, trying to catch her breath.  If she was honest with herself,
she had probably wanted this to happen. For her, Donovan held an irresistible
attraction.  It was clear the only way to avoid making love with him was
to avoid him altogether and that was something that was going to be very hard
to do as long as the investigation was still open.

Alaina was the first to move, and pulling away from
Donovan, she began to button her blouse.  He stood in front of her
watching her quietly as she attempted to restore her appearance.  He broke
the silence, unable to tolerate her mental withdrawal from him. “Alaina, we
have to talk.”

Her expression was blank as she said, “I don't see
that we have anything left to talk about.”

Donovan ignored her indifference toward their
intimacy, he knew her well enough to know it was just an act.  “How can
you say we have nothing to talk about when we just had sex on my desk?”

“It was just sex.” Taking a deep breath to remain calm
she continued, “It changes nothing, I still can't trust you, and now I know I
can't even trust myself.”  Her tone remained unemotional as she spoke, but
inside she felt torn apart.  She wanted Donovan with a desperation she had
never known before.

Donovan leaned over, grabbed her chin and forced her
to look at him, his blue eyes intense. “Listen to me. You and I both know this
relationship is not just sex.  You might be able to fool yourself into
believing it for a while, but we both know it isn't true.” She tried to pull
away but he wouldn't allow it. “No, let me finish, I know you feel betrayed by
me, I certainly understand why you’re pissed, but the lies I told you were
unavoidable.  For God’s sake I was freaking undercover.  I'll never
lie to you again, I swear.”

Tears welled in Alaina's eyes. “How am I supposed to
believe you about anything?”  Why was it, she thought, this man had the
ability to tear her insides to shreds?

“You have faith in me or you wouldn't trust me with
your life as you're doing now.”

“I don't have a choice. I have to trust you with this
case.  Besides, believing in you as a cop and believing in you as a lover
are two different things!”  She defended her actions, not willing to admit
her inclination to depend on him.

“I think you do have a choice or you wouldn't be here
now, you'd be hiding in some hotel, not working with me side by side.
Once this case is over and you're safe we'll have time to work on our
relationship.”

Alaina couldn't believe his arrogance, the man would
not take no for an answer, it was becoming annoying.  “Haven't you heard a
word I've said?  We don't have a relationship anymore, if we ever had
one.  I feel like all I do is repeat myself with you.  I'm not
interested in a liar! I trust your ability to do your job, but I am not going
to make the mistake of trusting you with my heart again.  This whole
relationship happened too quickly and obviously none of it was real.”

Donovan chose to ignore her, she was stubborn, but he
was convinced sooner or later she would get over her anger and
forgive
him.  He leaned over, kissing her softly on the
lips. “Doesn’t worry we'll work everything out, I can't let you go, you mean
too much to me.  Besides, I am having a hard time taking you seriously
when you’re half naked on my office desk.”

Alaina let out a frustrated sigh. “You know I'm
beginning to think you're a lunatic, I mean I talk and you don't seem to hear a
word I have to say.  Does nothing penetrate your thick arrogant skull?”

“Baby, the only thing I'm crazy about is you.”

Alaina shot him a look of disgust. “You're an idiot.”

Donovan threw back his head and laughed, a deep rich
laugh filled with obvious enjoyment at her words.  “Ouch, that’s harsh,
and again I might be hurt if you weren’t half naked.”

“Would you shut-up already with the half -naked
stuff.
”

She really didn't see what he found so funny. In fact
he looked so happy she had the incredible urge to kick him in order to wipe
that smile from his face.  This conversation was going nowhere she
thought.  In an attempt to ignore Donovan, she finished restoring her
clothes to their original order.  However it was hard to look cool and
composed when putting on panties.

She glanced at her watch, shocked at the late hour, or
rather, early hour.  “Do you know it's after four o'clock in the morning?”

“Well I guess that explains why I'm so tired.
Come on, why don't we go to my place and get a couple of hours of sleep?”

“You've got to be a kidding.  I've just spent the
last hour telling you I want nothing to do with you and you expect me to come
home with you and crawl into your bed?”  The man was just too confident if
you asked her.

“Well since we have already had sex in my office, I
really don't see how it matters if you come to my place.  It's not as if
anything could happen that hasn't already happened.  Besides it's late and
I really just want to catch some sleep.”

“What about your professional ethics you were so
concerned with before?” she asked, suspicion in her voice.

“Since you're no longer considered a suspect, it's not
an issue any longer.  Don't you think it would be a great deal easier, not
to mention you'd probably feel safer, if you came back to my place?”

He did make a great deal of sense.  Who was she
kidding anyway, she was a complete head case because she wanted to go home with
him, wanted it more than anything else.  Was she going to be one of those
loser women who take the guy back after he walks all over them?  Certainly
the idea of sleeping alone in a hotel room, waiting for some unknown attacker
to pounce wasn't particularly appealing.  The problem was whenever they
were alone together they ended up having sex, and it was extremely difficult to
end a relationship with someone when you kept jumping their bones every five
minutes.  She had never had a strictly physical relationship before, but
if she couldn't keep her hands off Donovan and she couldn't trust him, it
seemed the only logical solution.

She looked at him, her expression almost grim.
“Okay, I'll go to your place, but I think you should know our relationship is
strictly physical, it's not possible for us to have anything more.  So
please don't mistake our having sex as anything else, okay?”

Donovan at first appeared shocked by her words, and
then he began to laugh, completely amused by her.

When he was finally able to get his laughter under
control, he nodded his head saying, “Okay if you want to pretend our
relationship is only physical, I'll play your game.  As long as we get to
have sex, I think that’s pretty much going to work for me.”

“I don't understand what you're laughing about and I'm
not playing any kind of game.”

“Sure baby, whatever you say. Now let's go, I'm
exhausted.” He put his arm around her, and led her out of the office.
Donovan was in dire need of sleep, and he suspected Alaina was as well.
It had been a difficult night for both of them he thought, although when had
their relationship not been difficult?  There had been the external forces
working against them from the beginning, yet here they were still together.

Despite
all of the mistrust placed between them since their meeting, somewhere deep
down their instincts always told them to trust each other.  He'd realized
that a while ago, and he knew someday soon Alaina would realize it as well.

Chapter Twenty

Alaina awoke, disoriented in the unfamiliar surroundings.
Suddenly the memories of the previous evening came flooding back to her.
Of course, she thought, she was in Donovan's apartment, which meant she was in
Donovan's bed.  The apartment was just like the man, immaculate, well
organized and tastefully decorated with an unmistakable aura of
masculinity.  Its floors were covered in hardwood with oriental throw rugs
strategically placed throughout the rooms. His living room, she had noted last
night, contained a brown leather sofa and love seat, and was also filled with
an abundance of bookshelves.  Obviously he did a great deal of reading,
something else she hadn't known about him. His bedroom where she was presently
lounging contained light colored oak furniture, but the bedding and drapes were
dark navy. How typically conservative, she thought to herself.

It was strange, after all they had been through together,
she
had never been to his home before last night, or rather
this morning she thought wryly.  She felt extremely comfortable lying in
his bed surrounded by his things, his scent lingering on the sheets covering
her, a feeling she found quite unsettling.  What was the matter with her,
she thought to herself, where was the strong professional woman she prided
herself on being?  Why did all of her convictions disintegrate when she
was with Donovan, didn't she have any will power left?  He had deceived
her. She should hate him, but instead she found herself incapable of staying
angry at him, wanting to be with him.
After
all, she thought, who wouldn’t have serious trust issues after being shot at,
finding out your father was a terrorist and having your house ransacked?

She had a vague memory of Donovan kissing her good-bye
this morning, telling her he had to go to work.  She shot up in bed.
Work, she thought. Looking at the clock she saw that it was almost noon, she
was definitely late for work.  Picking up her cell on the night table she
dialed the office, and let Marlene know had been working late last night but
she would be in later this afternoon.   As soon as she ended the
call, her phone rang and she saw it was Donovan.

She answered the call, “Hi.”

Donovan's sensuous voice greeted her ear. “Hi
yourself, I didn't wake you, did I?”

Why did he have to be sexy even on the phone, she
thought? “No I got up a few minutes ago.  I can't believe it's almost
noon, I never sleep in this late.”

“Well we were up most of the night, you desperately
needed the rest.  Are you planning on going in to work today?”

“Yeah, I refuse to go into hiding again.  I just
can't live my life this way any longer, and besides following my normal routine
will make me feel better.”

“I wish you wouldn't go honey, but I won't fight you
on the issue.  Call me at the office when you’re ready to leave and we can
go pick up some of your things from your house.  I'd also like you to go
through the house to make sure nothing is missing that you didn't notice
before.”

He certainly had everything planned out very nicely as
usual. She was once again irritated by his habit of taking control of her
life.  “Backup a minute
Donovan,
I never said I
was going to continue staying here with you.  I'm sorry if you got the
wrong idea, but I'm going home, in fact I'm going home today.  I can't
very well go to work in the clothes I was wearing yesterday.”
