The reflection in her eyes showed his eyes still glowed. He swallowed hard to push the anger away. Breath by deep breath, it began to fade until the reflection in her eyes showed green swirling through the orange. Anger faded to lust.
“Jasper, kiss my ass. I have no clue what you’re talking about. I came up here with Cole because I was too upset to talk to you. Then, an hour ago, he gets a call about a hot date. I’m here
alone
.” She flexed her hands. He could see the frustration she held.
Jasper cussed under his breath. It had all been just a setup. Cole and Sidda’s mother had played them perfectly. Damn humans, even though the wolf packs had lived amongst them for years, humans still didn’t fully understand how possessive Alpha wolves could be. Jasper and Ms. Angela had played a very dangerous game. “I’m gonna kill Cole. When I get home, he’s dead,” Jasper whispered. He looked down at her, regret cracking a whip within him. “God, I’m sorry. I thought…” He ran a large hand through his wild untamable hair. “I thought you were here with a guy. I couldn’t stand it. When I went to your house, your mom told me you’d gone to the cabin for the night. She said Cole told her you wanted to be alone with that white trash asshole you brought up here. I shifted right there, trying to get up here to you.” He brushed his knuckles across her cheek.
Her soft lips pursed into a pout. “Well, even if I was up here with Troy, it shouldn’t matter. You haven’t bothered to pick up a phone and call me in six months.” Her voice cracked. She crossed her arms.
Jasper hated that he hadn’t called her, but he hadn’t been able to. Sidda wouldn’t understand that he’d been trying desperately to convince Vivian Dowery that he was not her mate. Vivian following him every step for the past six months had left little time to talk to Sidda alone. But not calling her had hurt Sidda, and that wasn’t something he’d ever wanted to do. “Everything you do matters to me. I love you, always have. I’m sorry I didn’t call. I couldn’t.”
Her hazel eyes lit with anger. “Oh yeah, why? Cole tried to tell me some bull about it hurt you to hear my voice and not be with me? Well, what the crap did you think it was like for me? After that farewell scene, I dreamed of you coming home for Thanksgiving, us being together. Then you didn’t, not then or for anything else since you left. And you acted like nothing had changed between us, that you hadn’t nipped me and started the marking. Well, you did mark me then. It shattered every hold on my emotions I had when it came to you.”
Sulfur assaulted his senses as her anger rose right alongside her voice.
She breathed out a sob. “What do you think it did to me when you stopped calling, wouldn’t answer my calls, or anything? It broke my heart, you asshole. I wish that whole thing had never happened, that we could go back to before, but it did, and you blew it. Now leave, go back to Romania and whatever bitch you were fucking there. Just leave me alone.” Tears flowed down her cheeks, breaking his heart.
He hated himself for making her cry.
Sidda tried to push away the vulnerable and desperate feeling. All she had wanted the entire time he’d been in Romania was for him to tell her to hang on, to wait for him. He hadn’t, and just when she’d decided to move on, he came back thinking he could have her. Typical.
Rough fingers tilted her head to meet his eyes. “It did hurt. It hurt so goddamn bad to hear your voice and know I couldn’t be with you that I almost went insane from it.” His fingers stroked her face. “Four years I’ve been waiting, searching for a way to tell you just what I am.”
How could he say that? “I’ve always known what you are, so has everyone in town. The Luna Nation is a part of our world. We know you’re a wolf.” She was close to slapping him again. They’d always known he was a wolf. Sidda had understood his leaving, the need to find his pack, but never imagined it’d take him so long to come home.
He shook his head. “I’m more than that.”
She nodded, not exactly sure where he was going with the conversation. Jasper had a drive in him to be the best, do the best he could. It’d been a running joke between them that he could be the army guy, the “be all you can be” army guy.
His lips turned into a quick, cocky grin. Perfect white teeth shone behind his lush red lips as the dimple in his cheek winked at her. His hand stroked her arm, sizzling her with its touch.
“You remember folks around here talking about the Pack Wars?” His touch got firmer, clouding her brain.
“Yeah, vaguely. My mom said she dated a wolf once, right before my dad. But then the guy got sent to fight against some rival pack.” She reached out to touch his chest. The pale moonlight made Jasper’s skin glow. A fine sheen of sweat already covered his chest.
“Hmm.” He closed his eyes when she moved her hands over his chest to his shoulder, feeling each muscle. His skin trembled with her touch. “Shit, I can’t think when you’re touching me.” His eyes snapped open. “This is important. I’m the rightful North American Luna Alpha.” His body moved closer, his fingers finding their way to her breast as if he hadn’t just dropped one hell of a bombshell on her.
She dropped her hands to her side, staring up at him. His lips were inches away from hers, yet her mind ran screaming in the other direction. He was a freakin’ leader of a pack and not just any backyard hometown pack, the leader of the thirty of the Luna packs in North America. She had no idea what that really entailed, besides she’d have to share him.
Her mind spun with confusion. “Repeat that again.” She looked up into chocolate eyes.
He played with a free strand of her hair. He lifted the strand to his nose, inhaling the scent, and then let it drop to her shoulder.
“Later, let’s talk about it later.” He grasped the rubber band in her hair then pulled it out. The mass of auburn curls cascaded around her shoulders. He sighed deeply, kissing the side of her mouth. “No matter what, you’ll never have to share me. I’ve always been yours.”
Sidda’s mind melted right alongside her body. God, how could he brand her with just his words? She wanted to rebel against the thought of “belonging” to someone. To fight with him for abandoning her. To argue with him about having to share him since he was an Alpha. But she couldn’t, because the desire flaming in her swept her anger to the back of her mind. A little part of her glorified in the fact that she belonged to him. That part begged to be marked again, to prove she was his.
She rolled her head back to expose her throat again. His breath caught. Then his lips found the mark, and her world went black.
Chapter Three
The heat from his mouth on the tender bite had her eyes rolling back. The pleasure was too much for her. She didn’t understand or care how the bite would affect her, him, or them. She only cared about his touch and where it would lead. She rubbed her hand across his face, stroking it gently. “Jasper?”
His half-closed eyes searched hers for some unknown answer. “The marking-bond worked. I wasn’t sure it would.” He smiled, his face lighting up with joy. “God I’ve missed you.” His lips crushed down on hers.
He raised his head and slung her over his shoulder.
“Jasper!” Her voice raised to a shrill scream. “What are you doing?” She looked up over her shoulder while blood rushed to her head. His hand rubbed her ass, smoothing over her shorts and sending heat from his hand. The door to the cabin flew open then he kicked it closed behind them.
Jasper stopped at the bed. “Do you feel it?” He slowly eased her down onto the white and blue quilt. The wrought iron bed creaked when weight hit the mattress.
Her nerves were raw, and the anger still tingled inside her under the desire rushing in her blood. “Be specific. If you only knew what all I was feeling right now, you wouldn’t ask such a stupid question.” Her insecurity came back in spades.
She had to be tough, had to keep him away before he hurt her again. It didn’t matter how bad she wanted him. She rolled her eyes, scooting away from him.
He moved closer to place his hands on either side of her on the bed. “Stop running. Tell me.”
“Tell you what? That you’re still an asshole for leaving me like that, or for not telling me what was wrong? Either way, it doesn’t matter.” She bit the inside of her lip to keep from pouting again.
Her gaze avoided his. He leaned forward, towering over her. “Look at me.” He tipped her chin up with one hand, the other caressing her cheek. “I’ve lain awake at night for so long dreaming of you. There has never been anyone else, no Romanian bitch, and no American one either. Only you.” His genuine smile generated the warmth of love.
Her heart began to pound heavily in her chest at the meaning of his words. Her eyebrows shot up. There was no way in this world
he
was still a virgin. No way. His smile widened, the caress on her cheek moving lower to the mark. Pain zapped her. Even with his soft touch, the skin was sore. She knew him too well. He was trying to distract her from what he’d just admitted.
“What do you mean? Are you seriously trying to tell me that, of all the girls you dated in high school, you never once had sex?”
He leaned forward, his lips within inches of hers. She stilled, holding her breath. He turned her head, exposing her throat for him once again. Blood roared in her ears, blocking out the sound of their panting.
He kissed the bite with full, sizzling lips. She gasped, and electricity zinged all the way to her toes. Sidda’s body tingled with it and ached exquisitely. She fought for air, but her lungs wouldn’t fill fast enough. The uncontrollable sensations that surged from the bite were unreal. She couldn’t believe the pleasure/pain.
“This is why I’ve waited. No one else is anything compared to you. I wanted to wait until you were ready. Until we both found out who I was so you would know it all before making a decision.” A warm, wet tongue lapped at the wound, firm, yet gentle, and all at once, she knew his tongue was made to be somewhere else on her body. He chuckled before pulling back to look her in the eyes.
Her eyes widened at the hunger she saw in his changing eye color. His normally chocolate eyes shone neon green. Being best friends with Jasper since childhood, she knew deep green stood for love, but this green was wild.
“Are you ready now?” His tone was low, rumbling, and more than anything, sexy as hell.
More than ready. “Yes,” she whispered, barely able to contain her body or mind.
In fact, she’d been ready to give herself to him for years. She’d prayed that one day he’d come back to her so she could. Even being mad at him for not coming home earlier to claim her, she still wanted him like never before. Her palms cupped his head and pulled him to meet her lips.
He jerked away. “I don’t know how gentle I can be. The beast inside me has waited so long to have you.”
She scooted away from him to see his gorgeous body. Sidda licked her lips at the sight of his hardened nipples, kiss-swollen lips, and even more swollen cock. “I guess it’s a good thing I don’t want gentle. Your beast isn’t the only one who’s waited.”
She ran her hand across his defined chest. His body arched under her hands. His touch held a power over her, one that commanded her to submit and beg for more from him. By the way his body responded to her touch, she knew she held a power over him too. It was the power to make him dominant. While he could make her submit, she could make him dominate. It struck her then how perfectly made for each other they truly were.
Heat from his body scorched hers. “When I’m pushing inside you, I want you to mark me too. The bond isn’t finished until you do.”
She nodded, even though she had no idea what the hell he’d said. She’d caught something about marking him, but the lust filling her brain clouded it.
Her stomach quivered with his touch as he skimmed his fingertips over it to the hem of her tee shirt. “Don’t move. Let me see you, all of you.” He tugged the shirt over her head.
The warm air from the fire did nothing to keep her from shivering. Sidda’s normal, sane reaction would have been to grab the blanket to cover up, but she didn’t feel sane. His wildness made her wild, uninhibited. She flattened her palms over his solid chest to caress him. Dark brown hair jostled with a shake of his head. He leaned forward, his lips trailing from her neck to the top of her breast, while one hand moved to the other breast. She gulped. Aching and heavy, her breasts begged for his touch.
