“Follow me,” Blake said while going down the stairs. He was holding keys and an ax.

I turned around and walked down the stairs as everyone else did too.
When he was at the bottom, he walked toward a heavily locked door on the right wall.  It showed a stairway.

We walked up the stairs where Blake then bought us to a parallel door.  He clicked on the keypad and then the door opened.
He walked in and gestured for us to follow. The walls were white and so was the tiled floor.  He walked to another heavily locked door, that was covered with bars. He placed a key in each lock and then he opened it.

We all walked through the door to an area where the walls were a plain blue again, and then I saw open jail cells. The cells had bunk beds that were covered in white sheets. There were stairwells on the left and right walls which lead to cells on the second level.

“Look Jason, we have visitors” a male voice said.

I turned my heads both ways. Where was it coming from?

“I see.  I hope they didn’t expect to see nobody here” a slightly more matured male voice said.

“Indeed.  I knew I should have set that trap” the first boy said while clacking something together repeatedly.

“Well look, at least we won’t be bored with ourselves” the second boy said.

I gulped.

“Well, at least, we have company” the second boy said. “Well, I couldn’t agree with you more,” the first boy said.

Blake
answered,“Listen, Jason and Marcus, nobody is here to-”

The first boy cut him off.

“Oh, how did you know my name?  Could it be?  The one returning to the juvenile home is Blake and a couple of his friends?” The first boy said.

“No, it’s not him, he left months ago. He was the one who conducted the jail break.
Even though he never made it out until this year” the second boy said.

Ok, for real where are they. I was
wondering.

“He was smart wasn’t  he?” the first boy asked.

“Certainly. He always had some type of big word that described this place; he always wanted to get out. Shame on him for breaking our promise” the second boy said.

“Indeed. He played us like an old record, but he’s not going to do it again” the first boy said.

“I couldn’t agree more” the second boy said as a creaking sound was made. It sounded like a bed.

“Look Jason, Marcus, come out and face me like a man you never were” Blake said while holding the ax up.

“Ok, but first, you have to put the ax down. We wouldn’t want any accidents would we?” The first boy asked while another creaking sound was made.

Blake put the ax behind his back as he passed it to me.

I grabbed it and held it behind my back.

“Nope Blake, that’s not going to work, we know that trick.

“Put it down” Blake whispered.

I squat as I put down the ax.

“Now that’s more like it,” the second boy said while walking into the light of a jail cell that was on the right wall.

The first boy came out of a cell on the left wall. The first boy, Marcus, had long blonde hair and blue eyes. He wore a blue

jumpsuit and black sneakers. He smiled and winked at me.

Not ANOTHER admirer.
I rolled my eyes and looked to the second boy, Jason. Jason had long black hair and narrow eyes. He also wore a blue jumpsuit and black sneakers. He was staring in my direction, but it looked like he was staring at the person behind me. He winked and made a heart with his hands and put it on his chest.

I turned around and to see who he was winking at and it was Aoi.

Aoi gave him a disgusted look. Obviously she didn’t like them.

I chuckled. Well, I’m not going to lie, Marcus is handsome, and so is Jason.

“What are you chuckling for, brown haired beauty” Marcus said.

“Um, nothing” I said as I blushed. Now only if Edmund thought that!

“Look, Marcus. Were only here for protection, nothing, big, so can we stay?” Blake asked.

I swear as soon as we entered this jail, Blake turned into a different person.

“Why not?” Marcus said while walking towards the stairs that led to the second layer of jail cells.

“You can stay, only if you all prove yourselves” Jason said while walking towards the stairs that lead to his lair.

Blake sighed. “Ok, but, nothing to easy,” his tone of voice changed to a daring tone.

I gulped; Blake did turn into a different person.

“Well, they may be too hard, so I guess; brown haired beauty and the other girls will sit out.” Marcus said while sliding down the rail.

“Ok, but-” Blake was cut off by Jason.

“No. No but’s” Jason said.

“Are you ready?” Marcus asked.

“Of course, I ain’t no chicken!”  Blake yelled.

“Ok, little dare devil, why don’t we start with the fall?” Jason said.

“The fall, what is the fall?” Kohaku asked.

“Oh, young one, the fall is when you jump from the left wall, to the right wall. If you fall, like everyone else, you have to fall without breaking a bone.
If you make it, which is highly unlikely, you don’t have to do anymore challenges” Marcus said.

“I remember that! That was the challenge you gave me when I tried to join your group! I remember doing it over and over again until I jumped from the left wall to the right wall! This’ll be a piece of cake” Blake said.

“Oh really now, well why don’t you go first then, since you’re so full of yourself,” Jason said.

“Ok, then I will” Blake said while walking up the steps.

Out of nowhere, Marcus showed up next to me.

“What are you staring at brown hair beauty?” Marcus said while grabbing my chin and turning my head towards his.

When I got a closer look at him, I could see that he was older than me, probably in sixth or seventh grade.
I rolled my eyes at him. He couldn’t possibly be interested in me. I’m younger than him.

“What are you rollin’ your eyes at, sunshine?” Marcus asked.

I shuddered.
Him, interested in me? Does he even know how old I am? I turned my head back to look at Blake.

Blake was at the left wall’s second layer.
He was standing on the banister. He was about to jump. How could he keep his balance? Blake jumped. It seemed as if he went in slow motion. He almost reached the other wall. He grabbed the banister and hoisted himself up onto the floor.

“Good job, little octopus” Jason said.

Blake was breathing hard, as he leaned on the banister.
At least he made it.

“Your turn,
big boy” Marcus said. I knew he was talking to Edmund, but Edmund is not big.  Compared to the other boys with us, he is bigger than them.

Edmund went up the stairs.  He looked a little uneasy.  I would be too, if I had to jump from one distance to another, risking breaking a bone.

Once Edmund reached the top he then tried to stand on the banister.
When he stood on the banister he looked like he was having trouble balancing.

“Go” Jason said.

Edmund gulped as he jumped off the banister.  While he was in the air, he was moving his legs wildly. I swear he looked like a power ranger for a second.  He didn’t make it to the other side so he dropped on the ground. He landed on his hands and knees. He turned over and gave a face filled with pain as he held his knee. He screamed.

“Hot face!” Mari yelled as she ran towards him.

“Edmund!” I yelled as I ran toward him too.

Again out of nowhere, Marcus showed up in front of Mari and me.

“Nope, you can’t help him,” Marcus said as he held his arms out in front of us to stop us.

I pushed past him.

“Especially, not you brown hair.” He said as he grabbed my arm.

I yanked it out of his grasp and speed walked toward Edmund.

Mari was already there rubbing his knee.

I guess she had a thing for him too.

I stood over him, trying to help him up. When I was able to get him standing up, I helped him walk toward Kaelinda.

Mari was helping too, but she was a foot shorter than me so that kind of made it awkward.

Kaelinda reached for Edmund and laid him down on the floor.

“Can you move your knee?”  Kaelinda asked as she held his knee up.

“Yes” Edmund said. “Then can you move it for me please?” Kaelinda asked.

Edmund moved it.

“Thank you.  So, do you think you can walk on it still, or do you have to walk with help from someone?” Kaelinda asked.

“No, no I’m fine.  It just hurts a little” Edmund replied.

I sighed with relief.  I thought he’d broken his leg.

“So, I guess we have a doctor in the house” Marcus said.

“Now that means we can have some fun, doesn’t it?” Jason said.

“Yeah” Marcus replied.

“Hey you over there, you’re up” Jason said as he pointed to Kohaku.

Kohaku took a slow walk up the steps.  He also seemed a little, disturbed.

When he arrived at the top, he sat on the banister and looked down.

I guess he could see how far down the drop was.  He looks really uneasy.   He’s just lucky that this area only has two levels.

After a moment, Kohaku stood up on the banister.

“Try to reach the other side if you can!” Jason said.

Kohaku jumped off the banister.  He didn’t, make it to the other side. He dropped down.

I covered my mouth with my hand.  That drop, judging by the size of his body, could probably break
alot
of his bones. I heard a cracking sound as he hit the ground.

I flinched.  That sounded like it hurt.  He screamed, like he was dying.

I saw Kaelinda, run from Edmund to Kohaku. She was kneeling beside him checking to see if he was alright.

Mari, Lequisha, Paige, Aoi, Hana-yon, and I ran towards him.

I kneeled down next to Kaelinda. She was holding his hand and checking his joints. “Oh my god, I should have bought the nursing tools from the school” Kaelinda mumbled under her breath.

“Can I help with anything?” Lequisha asked.

“Maybe, but I need some doctor tools and other medical things” Kaelinda replied.

I heard Kohaku groan in pain.

“Where does it hurt, Kohaku?” Kaelinda asked.

“I-it hurts r-right here” Kohaku said while pointing to his ankle.

I don’t blame him for crying.  At least he landed on his feet.

Kaelinda grabbed his ankle and started rolling it around.

“This is suicide! No more challenges! You two are psycho!
Why would you give such a cruel challenge!?  Do you want them to die or something?!” I yelled, intentionally to Marcus and Jason.

“Finally, the smart one speaks up!
I was waiting for someone to refuse. You guys don’t have to do it if you didn’t want to. Obviously, I wasn’t threatening you to do it. Sometimes I wonder if Marcus and I are the smartest people on earth” Jason said while coming down the stairs.

“Plus, don’t worry about him, he will be alright.
Of course he broke something. He probably just sprained his ankles, not anything too big to worry about” Jason said as he walked towards us.

I grinded
my teeth. What a big liar! Wasn’t he just telling us earlier that the only way to stay here was if we proved ourselves? So I guess he’s not paying attention to his own words.

“Where’s the infirmary, or whatever it’s called in here?”  Kaelinda asked.

“Oh, you mean the health house? It’s on the third floor. But, I wouldn’t advise going there; not unless you want to see the ghost we call half dead-Horton. Or at least, that’s what he was before the guards decided

to kill him.” Marcus replied while walking towards us.
