You should only use organic ingredients when you can find them. If you ca
n’
t find organic, wash off the pesticides and the wax as best you can and use special cleansers from a health food store to do this, or use vinegar.

Use spring or purified water in the smoothies only. Another option is using alkaline water, which will add hydration properties and aid in the detoxification. If you want to add ice, you can.

Every day you should be drinking sixty ounces of green smoothies. Follow the recipes in this book because they are designed for weight loss and detoxification. You should be using smoothies and not juices because smoothies have whole foods with lots of fiber. You should also prepare your entire day
s
’ worth of smoothie. Keep the smoothies refrigerated as much as you can.

Drink a smoothie every three to four hours throughout the day or sip on the smoothie when you get hungry. Chew the smoothie as much as you can to avoid bloating and gas. If you do
n’
t feel like you want to drink an entire da
y’
s worth of smoothie, then drink at least two to ensure the body is getting the proper nutrition it needs. I
t’
s imperative you drink a green smoothie or have an appropriate snack every three to four hours to keep the metabolism working healthily. Yo
u’
ll desire eating less food, but you still need to give the body its fuel every three to four hours.

You should also use a high-speed blender to be sure it breaks up those leafy greens well enough.

Snacks

You can snack on the following throughout the day if you feel you need more than your smoothie:

  • Carrots
  • Apples
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Crunchy vegetables
  • Unsweetened peanut butter
  • Raw or unsalted nuts and seeds
  • Hard-boiled eggs
Daily Routine

The day is going to begin with you drinking a few glasses of water to replenish any liquids you lost overnight. Then yo
u’
ll follow with a cup of detox tea that will help provide you with some cleansing support for the kidneys and liver. Feel free to add a natural sweetener like stevia to the tea to enhance the flavor.

I
t’
s important that you drink plenty of water every day during your cleanse. Drink at least eight glasses of water per day, as well as the tea and smoothies.

For the first few days, yo
u’
re going to feel hungry, tired, and irritable. You should snack until the body adjusts to having less food. You can snack to get rid of your hunger; however, if you snack all the time throughout the day, yo
u’
re not going to lose a lot of weight. But do
n’
t worry about the weight. The importance is of cleansing and not really weight loss.

The typical symptoms yo
u’
re going to experience include pains, headaches, cravings, nausea, muscle aches, fatigue, and skin rashes. If the symptoms are too much for you, try these tips before quitting:

  • Change your ratio of fruits and vegetables. Begin with thirty percent greens to a seventy percent fruit ratio and then work your way up to more greens and less fruit over the course of a few days.
  • Drink plenty of water to help with the cleansing process.

Ease into the full cleanse. On the first day, have a green smoothie for breakfast, eat light, and then eat a healthy meal for lunch and dinner. Remember you should avoid meats, sugar, and dairy. On the second day, have a green smoothie for breakfast and lunch but a healthy meal like a salad for dinner. On the third day, resume with green smoothies all day. If you ca
n’
t seem to maintain the full cleanse, then switch over to the modified cleanse found later in this book.

Foods to Avoid

With the full cleanse, you want to avoid the following foods:

  • Do not put any starchy vegetables like carrots, potatoes, beets, or anything else tha
    t’
s not a leafy green in the smoothie.
  • Avoid refined and processed foods like:
    • Sugar
    • Carbs
    • Processed foods

  • Avoid animal fats like:
    • Meat
    • Dairy
  • Beverages that will dehydrate you:
    • Beer, liquor
    • Coffee
    • Diet sodas, soda
  • Fried Foods

If you do
n’
t feel comfortable with the full cleanse, then try out the modified cleanse found in the following chapter.

Modified Cleanse

The modified cleanse has you eating two green smoothies, one for breakfast and the other for lunch, with a healthy meal for dinner, snacks, water, and tea. This cleanse was designed for those who were unable or unwilling to stick with the full cleanse for the full ten days, or those who are
n’
t looking to lose weight but just want to detox. Weight loss is not as dramatic on this cleanse as it is for the full cleanse, but you still expect to lose between five and ten pounds in the first ten days.

Foods to Eat

You can still eat all the foods found in the full cleanse.

You should eat green smoothies for two meals every day, twelve to sixteen ounces each, and have a healthy meal like a salad for dinner. You switch up your meal if you want to have a healthy breakfast or a healthy lunch rather than dinner. It does
n’
t matter, as long as yo
u’
re consuming two smoothies and a healthy meal every day.

Your one healthy meal should consist of something such as sau

ed vegetables, salad, chicken, or fish.

You should drink at least eight glasses of water per day and drink a detox or herbal tea as desired. Drink the tea first thing in the morning.

Foods to Avoid

You should avoid all the foods that were listed in the full cleanse.

Now that you know how to perform the cleanse, how do you break the cleanse?

Chapter Two – Breaking the Cleanse

You do
n’
t want to go right back into eating whole foods after yo
u’
ve performed the cleanse. You should take three days to reintroduce foods back into your diet. Salads are an excellent way to start. Continue drinking the smoothies and listen to your bod
y’
s needs to see what foods work well for you. In the first two days after the cleanse, you should be drinking a green smoothie for breakfast, having a salad or sau

ed vegetables for lunch and dinner.

The goal is to eat light. Going back to eating whole foods too soon can make you feel nauseous and bloated. The third day after your cleanse, you should have a green smoothie for breakfast and light meals, like salad, and lean meats like chicken and fish, for lunch and dinner. By the fourth day, you want to eat whole foods easily and keep your meals light and healthy.

I
t’
s a good habit to start the day with a green smoothie for breakfast in order to maintain weight loss. Even a green smoothie a day use as a replacement meal is going to help put you on the road to permanent weight loss and better overall health. I
t’
ll reawaken your metabolism and give your body more energy.

Repeating the Cleanse

Yourfull cleanse should not be any longer than two weeks or fourteen days in a row. You do
n’
t want to run the risk of slowing down the metabolism so i
t’
s imperative to take a break from the full cleanse and reintroduce whole foods into the diet. A break would be several weeks, such as three to four, but two green smoothies and a high-protein diet every day is healthy and can be done for life.

If yo
u’
ve been off the ten day cleanse for a few weeks and want to redo the full cleanse or extend it longer than two weeks,  you have to add more protein to the diet and be sure to rotate your greens every week.

In addition, once you rid the body of toxins and waste during the first ten day cleanse, yo
u’
ll most likely lose less the next time you do a second cleanse. Normal weight loss is a pound to two pounds a week after the cleanse. By doing the full cleanse for longer than fourteen days, you risk slowing down your metabolism, which will make it harder to lose weight in the long term. If you need to learn how to lose weight after your cleanse, see the next chapter.

Just trying to do the full cleanse back to back is not the answer. I
t’
s an important step to jumpstarting your weight loss. Detoxing is not the answer to long-term weight loss.
