Lady dear, if Fairies may
âFor a moment lay aside
Cunning tricks and elfish play,
ââTis at happy Christmas-tide.
We have heard the children say â
âGentle children, whom we love â
Long ago, on Christmas Day,
âCame a message from above.
Still, as Christmas-tide comes round,
âThey remember it again â
Echo still the joyful sound,
ââPeace on earth, good-will to men.'
Yet the hearts must child-like be
âWhere such heavenly guests abide.
Unto children, in their glee,
âAll the year is Christmas-tide.
Thus, forgetting tricks and play
âFor a moment, Lady dear,
We would wish you, if we may,
âMerry Christmas, glad New Year.
Christmas,
