Chapter 5

Sam

The stars were out and the air was getting chilly fast.  Moon covered my shoulders with one of the blankets he brought along and snuggled against my back. At this moment, I felt so content. But just an hour ago, I thought my whole fucking world was about to come crashing down. I completely misunderstood what he was trying to say. I immediately thought he was ending things, and it scared the shit out of me. I couldn’t keep pretending that I didn’t want him, that I didn’t need him. I had to be honest. For my own fucking sanity, I had to. I couldn’t use my fear as an excuse anymore. I was still scared to death that he would eventually walk away, but I had to give this a chance.  Because losing him in the end couldn’t be any worse than never trying for a beginning. A real beginning. This whole time neither of us had really been honest about our feelings. Moon had the courage to finally tell me how he felt. It was my turn. It wasn’t going to be easy, but I had to give it a try.

“I’m sorry.” I said quietly.

“Sorry, for what darlin?’” Moon said, as he kissed my shoulder.

“For playing head games with you,” I said.

“What do you mean?” He asked, as he rubbed his hand up and down my arm.

“Pretending like I didn’t want more. I didn’t...it’s just hard I guess.” I was tongue tied. I didn’t know how to explain myself.

“I think we’re both guilty of that.”

“No, I shut you out. I panicked when I started developing real feelings for you. I was scared.”

He flipped me over on my back and hovered over me as he stared into my eyes.

“Sam Montgomery, I’ve known you for 18 years and I’ve never known you to be scared.”

“I’ve got a good poker face,” I said, and couldn’t help but smile a little.

“You really do, because you’ve always had me fooled.” he said with a perfect smile, and grazed his hand over my cheek.

“I’m still scared.” I said quietly, with my eyes closed. I couldn’t look at him and admit that. As soon as the words left my mouth, he kissed me gently.

“What are you scared of?” He whispered, with his forehead pressed against mine.

I couldn’t say it out loud, so I just shook my head, hoping he didn’t push for an answer.

“Don’t be scared.” He whispered against my lips. “Please, don’t be scared.”

His tenderness melted my defenses. I wanted him and I wasn’t going to deny it anymore. I felt like a huge weight was just lifted off my shoulders. I was going to do this. There was no going back. I needed him, and couldn’t let fear stand in my way. All I could do was hope he didn’t shatter my fucking world in the process. But I had known Moon practically my whole life and he had never hurt me. Granted, we had never gone this far, but I had to trust him. I had to.

I put my arms around him and scratched my nails gently down his back. I still didn’t open my eyes. I was scared that if I looked at him I would cry, and I wasn’t going to let that happen. It was true, I did have a pretty good poker face and for the most part I could handle anything. But it was different with Moon; he was chipping away at the wall I built around me. And if he kept talking to me this way, the whole fucking thing was going to crumble.

“Ok.” I whispered. I couldn’t say anything else. I wanted to say so much, but I wasn’t ready. Not yet.

“I need you to trust me.” Moon whispered in my ear. Another piece of that wall tumbled to the ground. Because that was just it, I had a hard time trusting and he knew that without me even saying it. All I could do was shake my head.

“Believe me; I’ve wanted this for too long to fuck it up.” He said with a smile. And I believed him; I know he would never hurt me on purpose.

I squeezed my arms around him and couldn’t help but shiver a little.

“Are you cold?” He asked through a laugh.

“Fucking freezing,” I said, and squeezed him harder. I don’t know if it was my nerves or the weather, but my teeth started to chatter.

“Let’s get you in the heat, woman,” he said, as he sat up. He was still naked and I couldn’t help but stare at the perfection in front of me. Everything about him was sexy. So fucking hot.

“You keep looking at me like that and I’ll find a different way to warm you up.”

“Fiend.” I giggled, as I sat up and grabbed my jeans.

“Only for you,” he said.

When we were dressed and back in the truck, I reached over and kissed Moon on the cheek.  He smiled as he started his truck, grabbed my head and put in on his shoulder. Maybe I could do this after all.

“Do you want me to take you home?” He asked, but kept his eyes on the road. My stomach twisted in knots. And not for the usual reason. I wasn’t trying to avoid this anymore. It was just going to take a minute. Diving head first into the pool wasn’t going to happen. I had to dip my toes in and get used to the temperature first. It’s just the way it had to be.

“I have to work in the morning,” I said quietly.

“Alright,” he said very nonchalant, but I think he was bluffing.

“Soon, ok?” I whispered in his ear.

He just nodded and stared straight ahead as he took a left and headed to my house.

When we pulled into my driveway, Moon turned off his truck and opened the door. When we both hopped out, he grabbed me by the hands.

“Can I just say something?” He looked at me and my heart started to pound harder.

“Shoot,” I said with a calm voice.

“Don’t let this,” He said, and put his finger on my temple “control this.” he pointed to my heart.

“I’m gonna do by best,” I said truthfully. That’s all I could do.

Moon wrapped his arms around me and put his lips on mine. My mouth immediately welcomed him. His tongue started caressing mine and his hands went to my ass. This was the easy part. The part I didn’t have any trouble with. The part I craved.   I felt the familiar tingle between my legs. How could a simple kiss have that effect on me?

“I can’t fucking get enough of you,” He whispered quietly. “It’s never enough,” he said, as he started kissing my neck. But then he pulled away and let out a loud exhale. Part of me was disappointed that he stopped. But the look on his face made me smile, and I felt a little devious. Damn, he was so cute.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, as I grabbed a handful of his hair and put my tits against his chest.

“You’re gonna kill me, you know that?” He said with a nervous laugh.

“What am I doing?” I said as I rubbed against him and gave him my most innocent look. I loved this game.

“You don’t have to do anything, baby, it’s just you,” he said, as he kissed my forehead.

And another chunk fell to the ground. Shattered. I put my arms around his neck and planted a gentle kiss to his lips.

“I’ll see ya later, Moon,” I said, as I squeezed his ass and started to walk into the house.

“I’m going home to ice my nuts, just so you know,” he said with a laugh.

I turned around and blew him a kiss before I opened my front door. He just shook his head and got in his truck.

When I shut the door behind me, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. God, I really loved him.

As I was getting ready for bed, I heard my phone go off.

Moon: Have dinner with me tomorrow night?

Me: Ok, sounds good

Moon: I know you gotta get up early, get some sleep

Me: About to, I need my beauty sleep ya know.

Moon: You couldn’t get any more beautiful than you already are.

Me: Stop, ur making me blush.

Moon: Well you gave me blue balls, so we’re even.

Me: Fucker

Moon: Tease

Me: Nighty night

Moon: Night Sam

The next morning, I accidentally overslept a little. That never happens. But I didn’t sleep for shit, so I wasn’t surprised.  Once I was ready and had all my stuff together, I headed to the front door. I looked down to lock it and saw the single white rose sitting in front of the door. I looked around but there was no one in sight. The third day in a row, I could get used to this. I picked it up and walked back into the house. I stuck it in the vase with the other two and ran my fingers over the petals. Who knew Moon had a romantic side?

As I was putting up my stuff in the break room at work, I saw Mackenzie walk in out of the corner of my eye. She threw her lunch in the refrigerator and slammed the door.

“Damn girl, what’s wrong with you?” I asked with a little laugh.

“Ugh, nothing,” she said. I looked in her direction and could see she had tears in her eyes.

“Hey,” I said, and walked over to her. “Whose ass do I need to kick?”

Mackenzie let out a little laugh as a single tear rolled down her cheek.

“Jake’s just a prick sometimes,” she said, as she wiped the tear away and exhaled.

“Do you wanna talk about it?” I asked. I liked Mackenzie. She was a little too bubbly sometimes and she was nicer to people than she should be, but I couldn’t fault her for it. It’s who she was.

“I’m just sick of him acting like he’s my dad,” she said, as she walked over to the computer to clock in.

“Oh,” I said. I didn’t know Jake very well, even though they had been together for almost a year. He was a pretty boy who didn’t say much. I knew he called her way too much anytime we went to the bar, or out to lunch.  But Mackenzie always brushed it off, so I didn’t think much of it.

“Anyway, I’m fine,” she said with a smile, as she turned around from the computer. I knew she didn’t mean it, it was written all over her face. But I wasn’t going to pry if she didn’t want to talk. I knew all too well how much that pissed me off, I wasn’t going to do that to her.

“Ok, girl. Well, I’m here if you wanna talk,” I said.

“Have you heard from Lainey?” She asked. Change of subject. I knew that tactic.

“Not yet, hopefully she will call in the next couple of days. Jase probably has her pretty occupied,” I said with a wink.

“She looked so beautiful at the wedding and so happy,” Mackenzie said with a smile. But she still seemed sad.

“She looked gorgeous and she is happy. She deserves it after all the shit she’s been through,” I said.

“Absolutely,” Mackenzie said, as she walked towards the door.

I got a text from Moon as soon as I pulled into my driveway after work.

Moon:  Are you home yet?

Me: Just pulled in

Moon: How about I cook dinner instead of going out?

Me: That sounds perfect, I’m tired.

Moon: Not too tired I hope

Me: You’ll still get laid, don’t worry

Moon: Just making sure

Me: What time do you want me to come over?

Moon: ASAP

Me: K, let me change and I’ll be there

Moon: Hurry up

Me: You and your demands

Moon: That’s the way you like it

Me: True

When I got to Moon’s I knocked as I opened his front door. I didn’t see him anywhere but I could hear him in the kitchen. He was singing a Frank Foster song and my heart immediately melted. He didn’t sing very often in front of anyone, but his voice was amazing. The only time I heard it was when he would have a buzz and picked up his guitar. It was something I found totally sexy, even in high school. I never acted on it, but when he would pick and sing, I wanted to jump on him. Luckily now, I could act on it. In fact, it was necessary. I needed to touch him. So. Fucking. Sexy.

“A heart like hers, it must be one of a kind. Yeah she’s my real woman, looks to kill, woman she’s mine,” he sang, as he stood in front of the stove.

Holy Shit. I wanted to run up to him, and wrap my arms around him. But my legs wouldn’t move. His voice melted me. It was full of emotion and it almost dropped me to my knees, right there. I had to compose myself. He still didn’t know I was even here. I took a couple of deep breaths and forced my legs to move. As soon as I reached him I wrapped my arms around his waist and kissed the middle of his back. He stopped singing immediately.

“Don’t stop.” I whispered into his back.

“I didn’t hear you come in,” he said, as he turned around to face me.

“You shouldn’t hide that voice, it’s fucking hot,” I said honestly.

Moon just laughed and grabbed my chin as he brought his lips to mine.

“I’ve been waiting to do that all day,” he said.

“What else have you been waiting to do all day?” I asked, as I rubbed my hand over his cock. It immediately got hard.

“Actually, I’ve been thinking you need that ass spanked for being a tease last night.” He said through gritted teeth, as he grabbed my ass hard.

“I think I deserve it,” I said, as I rubbed up against him. The truth is I think I needed it. Rough sex with Moon was fucking hot.

Moon turned me around so he was against my back. He unzipped my jeans and put his hand inside my panties.
