Syn stood by the front door with his
bag at his feet. He had on his dark jeans and black turtleneck,
warm but comfortable since he’d be in an undercover Roto Rooter van
all day. His firearm of choice today was his Sig Sauer in his
shoulder holster and a Colt 25 automatic strapped to his ankle.
Today was planned as a surveillance day. If all went as expected,
then they’d serve a warrant tomorrow. Furi leaned against the wall
by the door as Syn closed in on him. “What time are you leaving?”
Syn asked.

In about an
hour.”

Syn didn’t let their bodies touch. He
ran the back of his hand down the center of Furi’s chest. His hair
was wet from his shower and he smelled like Syn’s soap. “I’m going
to call you after I get the protective order. Can you wait until
then before you leave?” Syn was definitely nervous.

What time will that be?”
Furi asked, already gearing up to say no.

About three to four
hours,” Syn said with his most charming smile.

Furi's look said, ‘for real?’ “I can’t
sit here with my thumb up my ass, Syn. I have a shop to open,
remember? I have to meet with Doug first, then let in the men
who're installing the security system, and be to a meeting at my
bank by nine. I’m not sitting here waiting on a goddamn restraining
order. I’ll be riding with Doug all day.

Great, fuckin’ Doug. All
talk no action Doug.

Syn couldn’t help but
think of the threatening text messages Furi’d gotten, or the way
Patrick was following Furi just waiting for Syn to not be around.
If Patrick got his hands on Furi there was no telling how far he'd
go to take him
home
with him. Syn also didn’t know how many other women from
Illustra Patrick had hired to help him get to Furi. He had hated to
let Patrick go in that alley, but with the rich man’s high-priced
attorneys, they would need something more concrete to pin on him
beside the word of a few jilted women.

Hey you.” Furi’s warm
grip was on the back of his neck pulling him out of his horrific
thoughts.

Hey back,” Syn whispered.
He pressed into Furi’s toned chest and buried his face in Furi’s
neck, breathing him in. “I don’t like this. He wants you
back.”

I know. I don’t like this
either.” Furi rubbed Syn’s back in long slow strokes, the gesture
surprisingly comforting.

Syn kissed Furi’s long neck up to his
earlobe. “He can’t have you,” Syn whispered softly. “Because you’re
mine now.”

That’s right. So I’m not
going anywhere.” Furi kissed Syn’s jaw. “I can’t wait around for
hours but I’ll tell you what. I won’t make myself an easy target
either. I’ll be with Doug or the new hires; he won’t try anything
with an audience. I’ll also keep my phone on so if you want, you
can call me.”

That made Syn feel a
smidgen better. He didn’t trust anyone to keep Furi safe except him
or his men.
Oh
.
Syn dug out his cell. “I’m going to have a couple uniforms on you
today.” Syn was dialing when Furi yanked the phone out of his hand
and ended the call.

The hell you are. I don’t
need a fuckin’ security detail, Syn.” Furi didn’t push hard but he
backed Syn up out of his space. “I’m not the president,
geez.”

Syn released a frustrated sigh. He
needed to go but he didn’t want to leave. “Fuck,” Syn growled. He
was still thinking of solutions when he heard something scrape
against his doorknob. Something metal was tampering with the lock.
If he were anywhere else in the apartment he wouldn’t have heard
it, but he was right next to the door, so he could hear someone
trying to get in. He instinctually moved to stand in front of Furi,
pulling his Sig from its holster and unlocking the safety. He felt
Furi tensing behind him.

He could hear the tool
manipulating the lock mechanism.
Is this
bastard really fuckin’ brave enough to break into my home in broad
goddamn daylight?
Syn was in awe at the
size of this guy’s balls. The closet door was arm's length away. He
yanked it open and grabbed the blanket off the top shelf, pulling
his loaded twelve-gauge shotgun down just as the door eased open.
All Syn could see was the tip of a black boot. Furi griped his
shoulder. “Hey. Listen to this!” Syn yelled out. He put the stock
of the gun firmly against his shoulder and pulled the pump back in
two extremely swift moves. The sound was extremely loud and
intimidating in the quiet room, by far the scariest sound an
intruder could hear.

Don’t shoot, Dirty
Harry.” The irritating chuckle that followed was
unmistakable.

Son of a bitch,” Syn
grumbled. “Day, have you lost your fuckin’ mind?”

His Lieutenants came all the way
through the door, Day laughing at the pissed look on Syn's face and
Furi leaning on the wall behind him recovering from a panic attack.
“Syn. What the hell is going on man? Are you really gonna put a
buckshot in someone you think is breakin’ into your little-ass
apartment? Because, you do know that that’s excessive force,
right?” God asked, looking at him expectantly.

I was just scaring them
off. No one comes in after hearing that sound, trust me.” Syn
removed the shell and placed the gun back in the closet, covering
it with the blanket. He turned to look at Furi. He looked a little
pale but he was okay.

Syn spun back around, “Day. Knock on
my damn door like a normal visitor and wait for me to say come
in!”

Day pfftd, plopping down on the couch.
“You don’t invite the wind. The wind just–”

Stop saying that
stupid
wind
bullshit. Because if your door is shut and you weather guard
that bitch then the wind stays the fuck out until ... You. Open.
The. Door.” Syn’s dark eyes bored into Day’s hazel ones.

God’s laugh was raspy, while Day
looked bewildered. “But we’re family.”

Oh for fuck’s sake,” Syn
grumbled, he had to get going; he had no time to explain to Day
about how to behave in civilized society. He turned serious eyes
back on Furi. “I gotta go, but I really think–”

Furi pulled Syn to him before he could
finish the sentence, kissed him hard on the mouth before turning,
heading to the bedroom. “Just concentrate on your job and don’t
take any officers away from their assignments to follow me. There
could be someone out there who really needs their help.”

Syn didn’t get to say anything else
because Furi had closed the bedroom door. End of
discussion.

What’s up, Sarge?” God
asked, his green eyes focused on Syn.

That rat bastard is still
after Furious. He’s been sending threatening texts and calling him.
Last night he and his fuckwit brother were parked down the block
from the pub, probably waiting to see if Furi was working so they
could go at him again. When they saw I was with him, they
bailed.”

Syn angrily yanked his duffle bag up
off the floor and followed his bosses out the front door. While in
the elevator he realized just how tense he was when Day put a hand
on his shoulder, making jump.

Easy buddy. You know we
got your back. All of us. You taught this guy a lesson once but he
must have a hard head and a soft ass. Those are the type of people
who cause a good cop to lose his shield and his pension. Handle it
through legal channels. Get a restraining order and have it served
fast. After what just happened at your place, I don’t want you
encountering this guy again.” Day’s words were friendly but they
had an official undertone. His Lieutenant was telling him to stand
down.

Syn huffed, not liking Day’s words. He
didn’t even have to look at God to know he agreed with his partner.
Whether Syn wanted to admit it or not they were right. If he got
his hands on Furi’s soon-to-be-ex again, he wasn’t sure he’d be
able to control himself.

What do you mean he
wouldn’t sign off on it? The order is being requested by a goddamn
Sergeant.” Syn stood by one of the department Suburbans in the
dimly lit parking lot. After a long grueling day of surveillance,
he was now listening to the Magistrate’s paralegal deliver news he
didn't want to hear. “There is plenty of evidence to support the
request. Is the guy fucking blind? I showed him the text messages.”
Syn needed to calm down, he was talking about a judge – the judge
who would not grant Furi a protective order. “Those are threatening
words. If I tell you to
‘watch your
back’
or
‘I will
have you till death do us part’
, how the
hell would you take that? Are you telling me you’d feel
safe?”

God, he was so angry! He wanted to
curse the woman out even though she was just the messenger. “Not
even a temporary one?” Syn argued. He listened a little more before
aggressively pressing the red end button on his cell. “Fuck!” he
yelled.

Sarge. Calm down, man.
We’ll just have to put a couple guys on your boy,” Ruxsberg, his
electronics specialist, chimed in as he leaned against the driver
side of the vehicle waiting to drive him home since God and Day
were staying to meet with the Captain. It was almost eight p.m., he
was starving and now he had to give Furious this bad
news.

There’s no way he’ll
allow that. He doesn’t want any cops on him.” Syn was so wound up
he thought his head would explode. He threw his duffle in the back
seat and climbed in the front.

Hey, I got an idea.”
Ruxsberg pulled into traffic and headed towards Syn’s
place.

What’s that?” Syn blew a
tired breath.

Call Day later tonight.
He has a different Magistrate that he works with a lot. He can just
about get her to sign off on any warrant he asks for, so I’d think
he could get her to give you a restraining order for as long as you
want.”

Syn turned to look at Ruxs with
newfound hope. “You think so?”

I’m positive. Day got a
warrant for a suspect that we only had twenty-five minutes of
surveillance on.” Ruxs gave him a smug expression.

Alright I’ll try
that.”

If that doesn’t work, you
call us, and we’ll handle this shit ourselves, Sarge.”

I appreciate it, man.”
Syn fist-bumped his Detective. He couldn’t have asked to work with
a more dedicated group of men.

Besides, I like your guy.
Don’t want to see nothing happen to him, he makes some damn good
videos, man.”

Fuck off,” Syn barked a
laugh, pushing Ruxs’ shoulder. The ribbing and Ruxs’ suggestion had
lifted Syn’s spirits. He pulled out his cell and hit the number one
speed dial. He needed to see where Furi was now. He’d only texted
him a couple times all day but Furi must’ve known he’d be concerned
because he’d checked in with Syn periodically throughout the day.
Syn's last text had told him to go with Doug and his new manager to
his apartment to touch base with his landlady and get some more
clothes for the next few days. Not so Syn could protect him, but
because he wanted to be with him.

Syn heard the phone ringing and hit
the speakerphone.

Hey you.”

Syn couldn’t help but smile at the
sound of Furi’s deep voice doing their familiar greeting. “Hey
back.”

You headed home?” Furi
asked him.

Home. It almost sounded like they
lived together. “Yeah. I am. Where are you?”

I’m at the
pub.”

You are?” Syn’s heart
jumped.

I’m with Doug. Calm down,
baby. I’m safe,” Furi said seductively. His tone made Syn’s cock
twitch in the confinement of his jeans.

Be there in
fifteen.”

Alright. I’ll be
here.”

Syn disconnected the call.

Man you got it bad,” Ruxs
laughed heartily.

Syn couldn’t argue, because he
did.
