I grabbed a slice of pizza from the box
on the countertop and took a huge bite.

“Bring me one, babe?” Marissa asked from
the couch, where she was flipping channels, looking for a good movie.

“How’s this one?” she asked.

I glanced at the screen.  “Is it on
Lifetime?”

“No.”

“It’s great.”  I smiled and piled a
few slices of the pepperoni and sausage pizza onto a plate.  I brought it over
to Marissa and her dog eyed it hungrily.  I shook my head.  “No way,
Tulip.  You need to watch your weight.  Those stubby little legs have
enough to carry around as it is.”

Marissa laughed and rubbed the dog’s back
with her foot.

I went to the fridge and poured Marissa a
glass of sweet tea and grabbed a soda for myself from the door before settling
on the couch beside her.

“Thanks.”  She smiled.

I put my arm around her shoulders and she
leaned back against my chest, pulling a fleece blanket up in over our legs.

I grabbed another slice of pizza off the
plate and polished it off quickly as she sipped her tea.  George the cat
jumped up on the couch and curled up against my side.

“He loves you.”  Marissa laughed.

“Yeah, well, it’s hard not to,” I teased.

She raised an eyebrow at me and
grinned.  “I guess that’s true.”  She leaned up and kissed me gently.

I wrapped my arms around her and breathed
in her now familiar, apple scent and there wasn’t a place I’d rather be than
sitting right there, holding her.

“Do you need me to get that?” Marissa
asked when the coffee finished brewing.

I squeezed her around the waist, pulling
her closer and whispered in her ear, “No, don’t move.  I have everything I
want.”
