“Oh, I believe I can come up with a way to stay warm.”

This is what I love about Nick. Each time we fucked, Nick was warm, gentle and loving afterwards. Well, that was apart from the night, he had learnt his father had died.

“Ellie?”

“Erm?”

“I’m sorry.”

Perplexed, I look at Nick.

“Sorry about what?”

“That girl.”

“Hey, we all have a bit of a bunny boiler in us.”

I refused to let the bitch ruin what was happening between Nick and myself. If, what we have failed, I wanted the reason to be, because we were unsuitable for each other. Not because of some skank, who Nick could not remember.

As I stare at Nick, I smile to myself, and give myself a mission. One where I was going to make myself unforgettable to Nick.

“Let’s go to bed.”

Chapter 16

“Okay boys we ride in thirty minutes. Get your shit together, then we can roll.”

It has been four days, since Ellie’s run in with the stranger. Although there has been no more sighting of her in Comfort Springs. Both Fraggle, and Sundance have continued to ride the streets, and check out the clubs in the hope of finding her.

Today, Devils’ Comfort is riding out to Blue River, to talk to Tats. No matter what the police report or Ellie say, Tats and his crew were behind the break-in.

“Ready.”

Rising from my hunched position next to the hog. I turn towards Inferno, and watch, as he slips in his hands into the black leather biker gloves. His cut lay open and there is a lazy smile on his face.

“Ready. Let us roll.”

With a nod of his head, Inferno mounts his own hog, which is parked next to Dec’s. Who is also watching me, with a speculative expression. Since the break-in last weekend, I have been on edge, and inside me, there is a burning desire to kill someone. Without any further delay, I have the bike out of the parking lot, and heading towards the highway. In the distance, I hear the other’s as they catch up to me. Linc and Tabby, pull up alongside me. As soon as Comfort Springs is behind us, we take the bikes WFO, leaving a trail of dust behind us. Soon, the sun is blazing down, and the rays were hitting the mirrors. The roars of the hogs, soothing to my impatience.

It is late evening, by the time we reach Tats camp. The fire blazing, indicating exactly where they were. Four bodies sat round the fire. After a long hard ride, we should have been tired. Instead, our bodies are humming with adrenaline. Slowly, we walked into the camp. Inferno treading on a twig broke the silence, and four sets of eyes turned towards us. The bikers have their guns pointing in our direction.

This threat, does not put us off, our mission, as we continue to walk towards the circle. When we are close enough, Inferno, Linc, and Dec, sit on an abandon tree trunk. Tabby and I went to stand on the other side of Tats, and the rough looking biker, who is on his right. Twiggy and Trax, stood behind the other two bikers, who had turned towards them, their guns still pointing at us.

“Are you lost Inferno?”

“Hey Tats, is that really any way to greet an old friend. We were just in the neighborhood and spotted the fire. We just thought the woods may be in danger.”

“Well, you can leave now.”

Instead of answering, Inferno let his gaze slide round the camp, while mine remained firmly on Tats, boring in to his skull. Tats must have felt my penetrating stare, as he turned his gaze towards me. A tormenting grin, spread across his face, as he drew on his cigarette. My own hands curled and uncurled, as I restrained myself, from giving into the temptation of laying into his fat smug face.

Slowly, Dec withdrew an item out of his denim pocket, and threw a heavy chunky gold chain at Tats’ feet. This movement drew Tats gaze away from mine, as his toe kicked the offensive object.

“Do you recognize it Tats? One of your men pawned the item in New Lyons. That wasn’t smart on his part.”

As he spoke, Tabby inched his body closer to the guy whose skin is covered in pox marks, from some kind of venereal disease he must have had at one time. The biker in question, shifted his body. A simple tell of who the culprit was.

“I’ve never seen it before Tabby.”

“Liar.”

This came from Dec, who had risen from his position and was stretching his body. We have the fuckers outnumbered and could have taken them down, when a noise from behind Trax, has us all turning in his direction. Stood behind him was the girl who had approached Ellie. As she came further into the camp. I noted that although she was about the same height as Ellie, she was thinner. Her dark curls, pulled back in a band. As she walked further into the camp, she made her way over to me, slipping her arm through mine. As I looked at the woman, I still did not recognize her.

“Hi Lover.”

Her voice was possessive, as she curved her body further into mine. Unnerved by the way she was looking at me, I made to step back, but her body followed mine. Her hand gripping tight onto my arm. I was becoming irritated with the girl and her attitude. With a rough shake of my arm, I shook her free, whilst stepping to one side.

“Who the fuck are you?”

At one time, the hurt look, which came into her eyes, would have had me softening my approach. But not this time. This woman was trouble, and had broken into Ellie’s home. Again, the whore wrapped her talons around my arm, as she sidled up and rubbed her body against me.

“Come on Fudge. You can’t have forgotten who I am. You said I was the best you’ve ever had.”

Fuck, that was a line I used on all the women I screwed, and it never meant a thing at the time. The women would have just been bodies, which I used to slake my lust. With disgust, I untangled the whore’s hold and stepped to one side.

“Stay away from Ellie.”

Once again, she looked up at me with reproach, and all I felt was repulsion. Her wounded look, did not stop me from walking away from her.

“If that whore’s one of yours Tats. You need to control her, and keep her out of Comfort Springs.”

By now, my face is close to the Biker’s. The anger is vibrating inside me. Yeah, the whore may have broken into Ellie’s, but she had not done it, without Tats’ authorization.

“Tats. You need to keep your men and yourself out of Comfort Springs.”

“We can go where the fuck we want.”

As the biker with the scars spoke out, Tats’ raised his hand to the other bikers, his gaze warning them to keep quiet. As his throat contracted, he spat spittle on the ground near Inferno’s feet. The tension in the air was becoming tight, and Dec was stepping closer to one of the other bikers. They were in deep conversation, but from where I stood, it was hard to hear what they were saying.

“Timmo, step away. I’ll deal with it.”

The biker looked over at Tats, and for a moment, I thought he was going to disagree. With a slow nod, he stepped away from Dec.

“You know, Inferno, throwing accusations around, isn’t a good idea. Unless you’ve proof that it was us. I suggest you get off our land, while you can still walk.”

“Don’t talk shit Tats’. The guy you pawned that chain too, gave a good description of the scar face idiot over there. As for the whore. Deal with it, before we have to.”

Tats drops his gaze from Inferno, to focus on me.

“The girl said, you promised to go exclusive with her.”

“Exclusive with a fucking whore. You’re kidding me right.”

“She’s no whore Fudge. When you’ve finished mangling her reputation. That’s my sister.”

Fuck, I hope to god, he was lying. Idly, I let my gaze fall from Tats, as I turned to the whore. The self-satisfied smirk on her face, has me curling my fist again, as I resisted the temptation, to smack her in the face.

“If you don’t need me. I’m going back to the bikes, Inferno.”

I had to walk away as the revulsion rolled in my stomach. I have no idea what happened, once I left the camp, but Trax soon caught up with me. His long muscular legs matching my strides. As we reached the bikes, we found Chilli still on guard, where we had left him.

My body was humming with unleashed anger, and to relax myself, I reached in to my pocket to withdraw a cheroot, which I drew on deeply. Inhaling the fragrant smoke, deep into my lungs. As I released the built up tension in my body, I let the fumes of the cheroot escape out of my nostrils. Satisfaction purged through me, as I turned my gaze to the stars.

All I had to do now, was tell Ellie that the girl had been found. Fuck, how the hell did I get into this mess, and when the fuck, did I fuck Tats’ sister. Sure, I had gone on a bender while in New Orleans, but I had not fucked any whores. Quietly, I continue to draw on the cheroot, watching the tip as it slowly disappeared. It has to be, at least three months since I had screwed anyone but Ellie, and why the hell, had the skank waited until now. The low, steady, throb behind my eyes, was starting to become a heavy thump. Blindly, I rub at the pain with my forefinger and thumb. I was in need of a drink, and it was going to be at least another thirty minutes before we reached Bear’s charter.

About to mount my bike, I hear the other bikers, as they approach. When Inferno reaches us, he threw a questioning glance in my direction, and I rolled my shoulders at him as I fastened the bucket helmet into place.

“Why the fuck did you fuck Tats’ sister?”

“Hey, I don’t remember fucking the skank, and obviously her family connections never came up. Otherwise, I’d have remembered.”

“Hey, maybe she’s got you mixed up with another biker.”

Wearily, I give a shake of my head in Tabby’s direction. No, I doubt that she has me mixed up with anyone else. Her whole posture was firm in her believe. The way her eyes had followed me around the makeshift camp, had left me uneasy. Even now, a cold shudder coils through my body, at the way she had eaten every part of me.

In need of dispelling the repugnant image, I dredge Ivy’s naked form to mind. The way her body had lay sated on the bed this morning, after we had made love. At that thought my heart goes into a double beat, and I throttle the bike harder than I had intended to, as we hit the trail for Bear’s.

Ivy and I have not made love, I reminded myself. No love was involved. I may not be totally detached in my feeling with Ivy. But I was aware that I did not love her either. No, what Ivy and I have, is a mutual respect for our body’s functions, and healthy appetite for sex.

Fuck, how Ivy had managed to go so long without sex, while her husband was away, I will never understand. To the outside world, she may appear to be a lady, but I knew that underneath the calm veneer, lay one sexy woman who appreciated sex, and was a wild cat in bed. Fuck, I have the scratches on my shoulders, and back to prove it.

“Fudge?”

Inferno’s voice broke into my thoughts as I parked the hog, in Bear’s compound.

“As soon as I remember anything, I’ll let you know.”

“Are you going to tell Ivy?”

“I owe it to her.”

Inferno gave a nod of his head, as he dismounted from the Harley. His eyes locking with mine.

“And Adam.”

Without thinking about it, I break eye contact and looked out at the trees.

“She’s a fucking woman. I don’t hurt women Inferno. Ellie can deal with it how she sees fit. If it means she tells the cops. Then she tells the cops. We just need to find out which bikers were with her, and deal with them.”

For years, I watched how my father treated my mother. Watched as he punched her in the stomach and kicked her once she was curled up in a ball, on the floor. As a child, I had made a promise to myself. That no matter what the woman did. I would never hit her. No matter how much they provoked me. I was not going to turn into my father. So far I have not.

After checking the Harley was secure, and watching the others as they collected beers from the cooler by the door, I sent a text to Ivy. I may not be ready to talk to her. But she needed to know that we had found the young woman, and that I would be home tomorrow.

Chapter 17

For the first time in a long time, I am nervous. Nick was expected back this evening and he had sent a text, saying he needed to talk to me. All kinds of thoughts were bouncing round my mind. Has he decided that he prefers his old ways? That he’s not cut out for a one on one relationship? Has he decided that Toby and Amelia are too much of a responsibility? For the umpteenth time I look at both the time and the text. I was free today, with nothing to keep me occupied. As soon as I had received the text, I had contacted Eliza and arranged for the kids to stay with her overnight. Never one to miss out on an opportunity to have the children, she had jumped at the chance.
