Chapter Two

Desire returned to her desk in a daze. She had been excited at the prospect of becoming an actual administrative assistant and getting out of the float pool, but after meeting the Middleton brothers, she wasn’t so sure it was a good idea. They were hot. Elliot stood around six foot five inches with broad shoulders and rugged good looks. Jet black hair curled a little at his ears. Clay’s hair was a dark brown and, though cut a little longer, didn’t curl like Elliot’s did.

Clay looked to be about six foot three inches and held the same rugged good looks as Elliot. Both had piercing black eyes. Both turned her on so freaking hot she wasn’t sure how she could stand to work around them without wanting to jump their bones anytime they were close. Maybe getting the job wasn’t a good idea.

She had worked hard to be taken seriously since the fiasco in Memphis. No matter how good she was, it was always her looks that got her the job or, if you believed everyone, the fact that she fucked her way there. Desire could honestly say she’d never done that and never would. If she ever did want a normal relationship again, she’d deal with it then. Right now, all she wanted was to get ahead at work—without using her body to do it.

Desire finished up the files she was working on and decided to head home early for a change. It was already thirty minutes past quitting time. As the last person in the office, it was her job to check that everything was turned off and that the coffeepot was clean and unplugged. Today she whisked through and found everything done for a change. She would be home by seven if she stopped and picked up something for dinner on the way.

She had a fondness for Chinese food, and called in an order for orange chicken and fried rice. She would grab her laundry at the cleaners and swing by Little Panda and pick up her order. She couldn’t wait to get out of her clothes and slip into shorts. Her feet were aching from filing for three hours in heels. She had never been one to enjoy wearing high heels. She compromised and wore them shorter than most of her female colleagues.

She closed and locked her apartment door just as her phone began ringing in her purse. The Chinese takeout bag dropped to the cabinet as she dug in her purse for her phone.

“Hello?”

“Desire? It’s Byron. Did you get the promotion?” Byron was one of the gay men she’d met at the office. He worked as the administrative assistant for one of the other partners in the firm.

“I won’t know till Monday. They interviewed six of us, according to Donna. That’s all I really know so far.”

“Well, all I have to say is you’re one lucky bitch. They are two of the hottest looking men in the company. I’d be all over them if I were you.”

“You’re a man slut, Byron. You wouldn’t either. You’re just saying that.”

“How about dinner and a movie tomorrow night? Jim is working the ER tomorrow and won’t be home before six a.m. Sunday morning. I don’t want to mope around waiting on him to come home.” Byron’s partner was in his last year of residency at the local hospital.

“Sounds good to me. I pick the movie though. I’m sick of girl flicks,” she groused.

“Oh, save me,” Byron said. “What action flick is out this week?”

“Hmm, I’ll let you know. You going to pick me up or do you want to meet at Lolita’s?”

“I’ll pick you up. No need for both of us to burn gas. It’s gotten too expensive to do anything now.”

They talked for another five minutes while she spread out her meal on the bar in her kitchen. Byron told her he would pick her up at six thirty and to wear something risqué. She’d laughed at him and hung up. With her ass, most anything she bought was a little risqué.

Chapter Three

Saturday night Clay and Elliot sat on either side of Jeanie, expecting the night to go as it normally did. They would enjoy a nice dinner, dancing at the club, then go back to her place for a night of naughty sex between the three of them. Elliot wasn’t feeling it though. He didn’t know about Clay, but all he could think about was Desire with her sexy ass and striking eyes. He glanced around Lolita’s and nearly fell out of his chair. Sitting not three tables over was Desire and a man that looked vaguely familiar.

He jerked his gaze back to his brother to tell him, only to find that Clay had already noticed her. His eyes narrowed. Who was she with?

“Excuse me,” Jeanie said. “I’m going to run to powder my nose.”

The men stood up with her and waited until she’d left the table before sitting back down to exchange suppositions.

“We agreed not to pursue her,” Elliot pointed out.

It wasn’t fazing Clay. He had one thing on his mind, and nothing would deter him at the moment.

“I know that man from somewhere. Must be from the office. We can find out more about him if he works there.” Clay took a sip of his whiskey.

“Maybe he’s gay, and they are just friends,” Elliot said.

“Look, he has a wedding band on.” Clay nodded toward them.

“Either she’s seeing a married guy, or he’s gay and has a permanent partner.” Elliot swirled the liquid in his glass before taking a drink.

The whiskey burned going down. He wanted to know who she was with now rather than later. Unfortunately, they were with Jeanie and couldn’t go and ask. They looked at each other and groaned.

“I’m not really feeling up to a threesome tonight with her,” Elliot confessed.

“Neither am I. All I can think about is red hair, and an ass I want to fuck all night.”

“What are we going to do?”

“We can go through the motions, but would that really be fair to Jeanie?” Clay asked.

“Hell, I’m not even sure I can get it up for her. I’m just not feeling it, man.” Elliot complained.

“I guess we take her home, then,” Clay said.

“What excuse do we give her?” Elliot asked.

“A headache?” Clay suggested.

“Right.” Elliot rolled his eyes.

“Here she comes.” Clay stood up and Elliot followed, watching as Jeanie approached the table.

“You are going to think I’m being incredibly rude, but I don’t feel real well. Would you mind if we did this another night? I don’t feel well at all.”

“Of course not. I’m sorry you’re not feeling well,” Elliot said.

“We’ll take you right home,” Clay added.

“I’m really sorry, you two. You know how much I love spending time with the two of you...” she began.

“Don’t think anything of it. If you’re not feeling well, you’re not feeling well. I’ll go get the car and be ready for you by the time you’ve settled the bill, Elliot,” Clay said.

Elliot signaled the waiter for their bill, and Clay left the table. Elliot noticed he swung close to where Desire and the unknown man sat. Maybe he would know more when they could talk.

He assisted Jeanie with her wrap and followed behind her as they made their way to the front of Lolita’s. Oddly enough, she wound them around to within one table of where their little redhead sat. He made out a few words from the man and knew he’d been right. He was gay.

They escorted Jeanie to her door, each giving her a kiss goodnight. They promised to get with her again real soon. Elliot made a mental note to send her a plant wishing her well. Somehow, he didn’t think he and Clay would be partaking of an evening with Jeanie again.

“He’s gay,” Elliot told Clay as soon as they were back in the car again.

“How do you figure that?” Clay asked.

“Jeanie walked us right by their table, and he was talking,” Elliot said. “He told Desire his ass was still sore from the workout Jim had given him the night before.”

“Sounds like you’re right. I’m also right. He’s from the same building. He works for Fredricks as his admin,” Clay told him.

“Did you see the dress she was wearing?” Clay asked.

“You mean the red number she almost had on?” Elliot ran a hand over his aching cock through his dress pants.

“She’s the best one for the job, but I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to concentrate having her around,” Clay admitted.

“Same here. I’m seriously thinking about hiring the guy instead of her.”

“Fuck that!” Clay said with a growl.

“Okay, it was just a suggestion.” Elliot grinned as Clay drove them home.

“You know. We can’t hit on our admin. It’s called sexual harassment. Something we’ve so far been able to avoid by not having an admin,” Elliot reminded Clay.

“I know. Can’t help but dream,” Clay groused.

* * * *

“Yep, that was them,” Byron affirmed. “The woman with them is Jeanie Smith. I really thought she was all hot and heavy with Mark Lowe, but maybe I’m wrong.”

“Or, she’s stepping out on him,” Desire suggested. “Men aren’t the only ones who play that game.”

“Don’t get me worrying about Jim. I’ll have to go up there and be sure he’s behaving, and then he’ll want to punish me.” Byron got dreamy-eyed for a minute. “It has possibilities.”

“You’re a hopeless glutton for punishment, aren’t you?”

“Oh yeah, baby.”

Desire rolled her eyes and took another sip of her wine. She wondered what they would be doing when they got wherever they were going. Were they going to have sex? All three of them? Together?
Well, duh, Desire
.

“Desire, you know you can confide in me. I’m not going to spill your secret to anyone at the office. We’re too good of friends for that. I saw how you looked at them as they came in. If you could have, you would have taken a bite out of each of them. You can’t look at a man like you were looking at those two sex-on-Popsicle-sticks and not want them.” Byron raised his eyebrows at her.

“I can’t afford for anyone to think I’m sleeping with the bosses, Byron. I’ll never get anywhere without it being because I fucked my way there. I don’t give a crap what anyone thinks, but in the end, when that last big step comes for you to get the best position, you lose out because you can’t possibly be qualified for the job. You slept your way up the ladder.”

“I understand, honey. I have trouble because I am gay and the male partners all worry about me jumping on them. That’s why I wear a wedding band though Jim doesn’t. I could care less if he wears one. I know where his dick is parked each night. But, it makes the other men in the office feel safer around me.” Byron chuckled and shook his head.

“See, if I get this position, I don’t want them hitting on me. I wouldn’t be able to turn them down, and then I’d be doing what I swore I wouldn’t do,” Desire said.

“So, have a fling with one or both of them. You already have the job. You didn’t actually sleep with them to get it.” Byron sipped at his wine and then took a bite of his meal.

“I’m not in their league, Byron. I’m a Southern redneck who is trying to fit in. I speak my mind, and I’ve noticed woman around here don’t say much around their men. That’s not me.”

“All I’m saying is see what happens. If it works out and you get the job, see where it leads. You may find out they aren’t your type after you work with them for a while. Then you will be home free.”

“I can only hope, but my hormones were giving me all sorts of fits around them. I don’t think they can do anything that will turn me off to them. Like you said, sex on a Popsicle stick,” she said with a grin.

“Sometimes, your body knows what it wants even when your brain is saying no. Maybe what you need is two real men taking care of you. Maybe those two men that just left are perfect for you.” Byron smirked at her.
