“Are you serious right now?” I knit my eyebrows together and I can feel my mouth open in a perfect ‘O’ in complete shock.

“Yep,” he pops the P as he says that, “he was screaming at me and telling me it was HIV blood.”

“Why?”

“His rant was that I wasn’t doing enough for the HIV community and that I wasn’t bringing enough attention to it.”

“What the hell happened? And why are you so damn calm telling me this? And why the hell didn’t you get security after that?”

“Well a good samaritan detained him as someone else called the police. He got the blood into me and the needle was sticking out of my shoulder until the ambulance arrived. They bagged it and sent it for testing. The police arrested him and he served eight months in prison. And I told you, other than that incident nothing else has ever happened, so I don’t need security.”

I make a mental note to do some research and send one of my boys over to this guy’s house and have him taken care of.

“And obviously he didn’t have anything?”

“Oh no, he’s HIV positive because he was tested, too, but the blood wasn’t his. It was from a family member, matter of fact, it was from his ten year old daughter.”

“Hang on, back up a minute. He took blood from his ten year old daughter to threaten you and inject it into you? His daughter’s ten. That’s ten right?” I’m beyond perplexed at this bizarre situation.

“Yeah. Ten. He and his partner separated and he had the daughter for the weekend, drugged her and got her blood to come after me.” Immediately I bolt up in bed.

“So you’re telling me he drugged up his ten year old kid to take her blood to stab you with it, all because he believes that you don’t bring enough awareness to a disease that you had nothing to do with in the first place? Is that what you’re saying?”

“Basically.” I shoot up out of bed and grab my panties and cargos pulling them on as I try to walk out the door.

“Darling where are you going? Come back to bed. We still have some time before your meeting.”

“I’m going to take care of something.”

Jeremy sits up in bed and swings his legs around. He manages to stand and hops over to me. “Don’t do anything to him. The judicial system deemed him responsible for stabbing me and he was dealt with accordingly.”

I go to step away from him, the anger coursing through me has sent me on a new level of evil. This man needs to pay, not only for what he did to Jeremy, but also to his daughter.

“Don’t even think that you’re going to stop me. I was going to have him killed quickly for what he did to you, but now, this is a whole new ball game. He tortured his own daughter and now it’s my turn to bring the torture to him.” Jeremy grabs my arm stopping me from moving away from him.

“Please, he’s served his punishment.”

“For you yes but not for his daughter,” I snatch my arm away from his and leave the bedroom by slamming the door shut.

When I get to my office I call Bruno and give him instructions to get everything on the animal who hurt his kid and Jeremy. Bruno tells me he’ll have the information by the time I return from the meet with Miloni.

G comes in and sits down at his assigned seat.

“What’s got you looking so pissed off, Frank?”

“I got Bruno looking into the guy who stabbed Jeremy about a year and a half ago. The prick drugged his daughter and used her blood to stab Jeremy with a syringe full of her blood.”

“What?” G looks as angry as I was when Jeremy was explaining it to me.

“Organise a trip for him. Make sure he suffers, make sure it takes all night.”

“On it,” G leaves the room and understands what I want. A welcoming committee will be waiting for the man who hurt his kid but I’m sure he’s not going to like the party that’ll be thrown for him.

I’m not sure how much time passes as I stare out the window and think about, well, everything.

“It’s all organised, Bruno got the information quicker than he thought so he gave me the name of the man, and a few of the boys are going to look after him.” G enters the office as I stand to leave with him to go out to the waiting limousine.

The driver, whatever his name is, is holding the door open for me.

“Mam, I hope you’re comfortable,” he says as he slides into the driver’s seat.

“I’m fine,” I cut him off and look out the window.

“Is there anything I can do to make your trip a better experience?”

“If the driver speaks one more word, you’re killing him and driving us.” I turn to G and raise my eyebrows at him but I say it loud enough for the driver to hear. The driver doesn’t say another word.

We’re about ten minutes from home heading towards the boat shed when it all happens. Out of the front passenger side a garbage truck rams straight into us. The limousine skids sideways towards the large oak trees lining the deserted road. I’m knocked about and go catapulting and hitting the door of the car, G falls on me pinning me to the door. I hear the rumble of the truck engine and see it coming towards us again but I can also hear gun fire exploding all around us.

“Stay down, Frankie” G’s yelling at me but my hearing’s off and he sounds muffled, I think that’s what he said.

Moisture is falling from my face and my right eye can see red liquid staining on my cargo pants. I blink and shake my head trying to get some bearings but the jolt of the car throws me again and I smash my head on the hard plastic of the door handle.

My head becomes fuzzy and the little black butterflies flapping crazily around my eyes rapidly increase in numbers.

“Frankie,” I think I hear G yelling to me. I look in his direction but can’t see him; I can just barely hear him. His voice sounding desperate, like he’s pulling me from a car plummeted into water. Of course my senses are dulled, my vision blurry and my hearing muffled.

“Frankie!” G yells again. “Get down!” Again I’m not sure they’re the words, I lay on the car door not knowing what’s happening around me. A flash of light catches my sight in the front and another lightning bolt from the same direction. But I know that these are gun shots, my gaze follows the drift of the gun fire and the driver’s definitely dead.

More shots are fired, more yelling but this time the yelling’s outside the car. My breath begins to slow, my eyes blink longer, my body stops the fight and my heart beats lazily. The black butterflies become a black sheet and everything disperses.

Peace and happiness comes from the tsunami of my life.

Chapter 20

“Can she hear me?”

“I don’t know, Jeremy. But talk to her like she can.”

“Who did this, G? Do you know what happened?”

“I’ve been working on it. You don’t want to know the dynamics. You’re in the wrong profession.”

“I’m in too deep now to worry about that and if you remember I relinquished my title the moment you whisked us away to this island.”

My eyes want to open but my brain won’t let them. My body’s not ready to come back yet, so I allow it to rest and protect itself from whatever the fuck is happening.

“G, it’s been two days. The doctor said she should be out of it by now. I don’t like this. Something’s wrong. We need to get her back to the mainland.”

“If she goes there, she’ll be killed. She needs to rest here so we can decide what’s the best course.”

“No, this is fucking bullshit. She needs to be in a hospital.”

“I said no, Jeremy.”

“I don’t care what you say, we have to do what’s best for her.”

“Listen…..”

Hello black butterflies, you’ve come to visit me again.

“Okay now I’m worried, Jeremy. Three days and she’s not even stirred.”

“I told you, she should’ve been in the hospital two days ago. How quickly can we have her moved?”

“It’s not that damn easy. We’ve got to get her over to the mainland, then organise the chopper. You saw how hard it was to get her here.”

“I swear to God, G if anything happens to her…”

“What are you going to do? You think you can take me?”

“No I don’t, but I’ll give it a good fucking shot.”

“Will you two shut up,” I moan without opening my eyes.

“Frankie,” they both yell in unison.

“Darling, how are you feeling?” I try to open my eyes to look at where I heard Jeremy talking from but it feels like my eye lids have welded together. “Can you feel my hand? Can you sit up?”

“Jeremy, you really are a big fucking girl. Let her come to on her own.”

“Fuck off.”

Jeremy’s on my right side and G’s on my left, both of them have my hand cupped in theirs.

“Not one more word from either of you,” I say, but this time I manage to open my eyes and look into the charcoal orbs of Jeremy.

“You look like shit, Senator, that’s right I can’t call you that anymore.” I try to get up but a wave or nausea over takes me.

“Don’t move, Frankie, just lay back down.”

“G can you give us a few moments?” I ask as G stands and with a protective and fatherly kiss to my forehead, he exits the room.

“Come here,” I move over on the bed and Jeremy lays down next me.

“You could hear us?” He asks as his hand rubs up and down my arm.

“Not everything but you’re no longer a Senator.”

“I told you when we were at the park, I’ll sacrifice it all for you, everything I have I’ll gladly leave it behind, for you,” Jeremy places a kiss on my lips, just a soft chaste kiss. “You had me so worried.” He kisses me again but leaves his lips on mine. “Bruno came running in telling me we had to move.” His tongue peeps out as he licks my bottom lip.

“We were ambushed. I don’t know how bad it is yet. I need to talk with G.”

“I can tell you that what I saw was damn horrific.” He moves his body so his arm’s under my head and the other one’s caging me to his body.

“What did you see?” I snuggle into his chest and that very real Jeremy scent relaxes me.

“When Bruno came in he pushed me out to a helicopter which landed near the limousine. It was a blood bath, Frankie, bodies everywhere, a truck t-boning the limousine at the front passenger side, the car was wedged between a tree that was slightly tilted at the trunk. The blood, Frankie, I’ve never seen so much blood, that’ll haunt me every time I close my eyes.” He kisses my hair as he expels a huge breath.

“I’m sorry, Jeremy. This is something I never wanted you to be a part of but now you’re in it and there’s only one way out, and that’s death.”

“I know, it’s something I’ve been considering since the day you ran into me at your restaurant.”

“You’re a crazy man, Jeremy Miller.”

“Only when it concerns you. I know you’re tougher than I am; I know you can kill at a drop of a hat and I know you could easily destroy me. But I also know that you love me, even though you aren’t ready to tell me or even admit it to yourself. And that’s okay, Darling, because I’m not going anywhere. But I’m not going to wait until the next shit thing that happens to us to tell you that I love you. And I don’t understand it or know where these damn feelings are coming from. I’m a guy and you, my dangerous mob boss, have brought me to my knees.”

“Jeremy……” He cuts me off immediately.

“If it’s not what I want to hear then don’t say anything at all. Just don’t, Frankie.” He goes quiet, obviously considering what he wants to say “I’m hoping that one day soon you’ll want to say the words and when you do I can’t wait to hear them.”

We remain on the bed in silence; through the open French doors we can see the sand and hear the water as it gently swirls around the shore.

“Can you tell me where the hell G brought us?” Jeremy says as he crosses his legs at the ankles and leans in to give me a kiss on my lips.

“It’s a private island Dad bought me for my 16th
birthday. The only way out of here is with a boat. A helicopter can land here but it’s damn near impossible.”

“This is all a bit too over the top and mafia for me, Frankie.”

“Mafia hey? Well I am Italian.” I let out a small laugh, “You do know who I am don’t you? Just in case you think I’m Cinderella or Snow fucking White.”

His arms tighten around me and he scissors our legs together.

“I know, Frankie, it’s just, as over the top as this is, it’s my life now. And something I need to accept.”

“I’ll protect you all I can, Jeremy. But this isn’t anything easy. There are no rules, there are no constitutions and there are no laws. I just gotta do what I have to, to keep everyone alive around me.”

“My father would be turning in his grave if he knew I was here with you.”

Oh shit. Why the hell would he bring up his father? I was hoping on riding that one out and never having to tell him.

Sometime soon, I’ll have to tell him and I suspect, he’ll want out the moment those words pass my lips.

Soon, but not right now.

Chapter 21

We’ve been on the island for three weeks. We’ve had the doctor visit us and Jeremy had his cast removed. He’s walking around very rigidly but the doctor’s assured us that full movement will return over the next few days but the best thing for him is to keep moving it.

“Frank, I’ve got word on Miloni.” G comes into the kitchen as Jeremy and I are having lunch.

“I’ll be fine, go and talk Mobster talk with G.” He smiles at me as he says that.

“He’s an annoying fuck,” G says as he directly looks at Jeremy.

“No he’s a good fuck,” I laugh and I lean down to give Jeremy a kiss.

G groans and leaves the kitchen. Jeremy pulls me down on his lap and attacks my mouth with so much heat and lust that I’m almost breathless.

“Don’t take too long. I want to fuck you.”

“How can you still want more?” I start to kiss down his jaw and down his neck towards his collarbone. God, he drives me crazy, just by having my lips on him I want more. Jeremy’s hands snake up under my shirt and he has my breasts out of the cup of my bra, he’s rolling my nipples between his thumb and forefinger. I mewl a low husky wanton sound and Jeremy bucks his hips up. I feel that he’s cock’s ready for me and I rock a little on his hard on trying to find a little friction. “You send me wild, Jeremy.”
