A simple messenger bag can hold just about anything. The traditional shape of a DJ bag is a square (to hold record albums), but you can experiment to get the best shape for your needs. You can make a DJ bag to carry your books, art supplies, or magazines, or use it as a nontraditional handbag.

DECIDE YOUR SIZE
. Figure out what you’ll carry in your DJ bag and base your size on those items. Feel free to make the bag deeper than the 3" we made ours if you need the space. Be sure to choose fabrics that will hold your desired contents well. If you’ll use it like a purse, then cotton is A-OK. But if you plan to really stuff it or to carry bulky, heavy things like books and such, I suggest a heavier weight fabric like canvas or denim — or both, like we used here.
