“No, nothing, no worries.” His reply was too quick to be an honest answer.

“Come on, dude! Stop it! I know it when you try to sell me bullshit!” David nudged him playfully.

Chris smiled. “Yeah, okay. I admit it. I’m not really in the mood for Christmas. But I don’t want to ruin it. It’s your day, man. Should I remind you that your boyfriend just proposed to you? “

“Yeah, I know!” David beamed. “I still can’t believe it.” He paused but set his eyes on Chris again. “You’re not fooling me for a second, boy! Come on, spill it!” He smirked, not budging, waiting for his young friend to say what he had to.

“Nothing, I swear.” Chris shrugged. “It’s just that I wish I had some of what you both have. No kidding, but you really got yourself a nice Disney fairytale there. For adults and the gay version, I admit it, but still…You, a former straight widow, who admitted being gay at nearly 40, find the love of your life with a gay ex-marine on your doorstep. Will you sing us Some Day My Prince Will Come too?” David burst out in laughter along with Chris but it didn’t stop him from seeing the real sadness behind the funny words.

“First, it wasn’t on my doorstep but on the plane coming over here. Besides, who knows? Maybe it’s because we both lived here. Perhaps the building does the magic! If so, you might find the love of your life here too.”

“Oh please, no! No, no, no and no! I don’t want to love anymore. I’ve tried too many times. I can’t take it anymore.”

James chose this moment to join them near the window, three glasses of Champagne in his hand. “You know, I used to say that too.” He gave them both a glass. “And see? Love found me anyway. I didn’t have to look out for it. Never say never…” He pecked David softly on his lips and placed an arm over his shoulders.

“Yeah, yeah, I know. Prince Charming only comes when it’s the right time for you! Well enjoy your honeymoon, you two, and don’t worry about my love life. I’m gonna dance a bit more and then I’ll go home.” He smiled before turning away.

They looked at him and James turned to face his lover.
My husband to be.
James rubbed his nose against David’s and he leaned on him until their foreheads touched. Silently smiling, they enjoyed their moment of intimacy, a bubble of peace in the middle of the family brouhaha. Like a light bulb over his head, an idea came to James’ mind.

“Tell me, baby, do you think we could play matchmakers?”

“For who?”

“For Chris of course. Who else? Jules and Laura will work it out together.” He winked. “But seriously for Chris, I thought maybe… you know that guy…the one we met at….”

“No no no!!” David chuckled. “I can see where you’re coming from, though. One day, he’ll find love by himself. If, by any chance, we happen to know someone who knows someone, then maybe we can organize a little something…”

“Oh, then, you agree?” James’ wide grin lit up his face even more than usual.

They laughed together. James lifted his glass of Champagne to clink it against David’s.

“To our love.” James murmured.

“To our dreams. May we find new ones to achieve.”

“Yeah, to new dreams.” They kept their eyes locked while drinking.

When they turned their faces toward the window, a shooting star crossed the sky.

May their dreams come true.

I
’m a French translator and writer of M/M romance. I’m 32 and I’ve got an off-the-wall sense of humor that sometimes shows in my writing. I love cats, nature, my kids (and hubs ☺), my amazing friends, both in real life and online, love stories (but only HEAs) and much more.

M
y stories are made to make you smile and entertain you. They’re also meant to tell you that, yes, gay love stories can contain wild sex scenes but to me, it’s more about love, tenderness, acceptance, struggles and conflicts. And more important, they’re no less love stories than M/F romance.

I
support LGBTQ rights as much as I can. I believe that writing gay romance isn’t enough to make people realize that they have nothing to fear from love. I think that acceptance begins by education so I guess writing is as good as anything else, for a start. I wish being supportive wasn’t needed. I wish bullies didn’t exist. There is still so much to do…
