He left the
sacristy and the
church and
made his way into the
vicarage
.
The neighborhood
always
was peaceful, although
sometimes there happened the
robberies, fights and even
murders there
. That’s why Jonathan had to be on guard even
though everyone respected him.
He
was walking
quickly, frequently turning around to make
sure no one was following him.
His blood pressure
was rising
in response to even the slightest sound he heard. He
always
was so nervous and could do nothing about it
.

In one moment he felt a
s if a silhouette walked by him
and he thought he heard a silent laughter. He speed
ed up even more
so much that he was practically running, clumsily tripping on th
e rocks that lied on the road.
He saw the light emanating from the
vicarage
. But before he reached it four hooded individuals blocked his way. They just appeared from the dar
kness, suddenly, unexpectedly.
Jonathan screamed when they revealed their pale faces
covered in blood
and showed their fangs.

Hello,
Jonathan”

A young man with black hair and green eyes came close
r to him. How does he know me?
, Rosenberg
thought
nervously
to himself. Only after a while
a very frightening  fact entered his mind – vampires. They are vampires. There are vampires in Knoxville
.

He moved back a step and another one
and another one, not releasing their leader from sight.

“Demons!
Satanic s
eeds! Go back wher
e you came from!”

With shaking hands he took out
a cross out of his jacket and tried to scare the intruders
off with it. T
he bleeding mouth of the leader turned into a smile.

That’s a nice trinket but it won’t do you any
thing
good
, priest”

Jonathan made a few step
s
and then
he turn
ed back and tried to run away.
But something blew him away with such force that he fell on his back and lost his breath. He felt the taste
of bile in his mouth and heard
a qui
et  womanly laughter behind him
and when he opened his eyes he could see the bleeding face of the girl that came with the other three hooded figures.

“Hello”
she whispered as her blood-c
o
lo
u
red hair stroked his cheeks
.

Jonathan felt
a painful pressure in his chest
as the leader put a boot on it
while the other two vampires
were crouching
next to him.

“Who are you and what do you want?” Rosenberg
asked.

“We a
re your friends
,
Jonathan
” the black-haired young man answered “
We came here to take you home. But first say hello to our old friend…

The vampire took his boot out of Jonathan
’s chest so
he could stand up on his elbows. He looked at  the woods  from which a beautiful brigh
t-
haired woman dressed in a black dress decorated with silver accessories appeared.  She came closer to him
slowly
, smiling and moving her  hips seductivel
y.  Jonathan wanted to stand up
but his body was paralyzed
down
from the waist.

The vampires moved a
way from him when the bright
-haired woman crouched next to him. Using her long manicured fingernail
s she cut the skin on her wrist
and
the
blood flew
out of it
. The bloodred colo
u
r contrasted her white c
omplexion
beautifully
.

“Drink”
she said in
a
feminine sensual
tone
“Drink
, my child. Give up your
God,
join the Dark Star and serve me faithfully…”

A few drops of blood dropped on his face, he wanted to run away but the vampires
were holding
him tightly pinned to the ground. The woma
n in black put her wrist closer
so it was only a few millimeters away from his mouth
.

He didn’t have a choice. For the first time in his career as an exorcist he lost a battle with the forces of
the
darknes
s. He lost even without having the G
od at his side. Without much thinking he took the woman

s wrist, put
his teeth into it and started drinking
her blood. A kaleidoscope of scenes fro
m his life appeared in his mind and when the woman
pulled her wrist away, he got shive
rs all over. His body was dying and
after a while he  took
an
air int
o his lungs and rose
up.

“More… Give me more”
he said
.

The vampires laughed.

“Welcome home
,
Jonathan” the black haired young man
said
and then
he helped him
to
get up
.

“What is happening here?”

Everyone turned around and
the leader’s eyes lightened up.

“Jake! Did you find anything?”

“I
’ve got
her diary. I think it should be enough”

“Wonderful! And now meet our friend
,
Jonathan!”

“You know that boy that you’ve caught this Friday at the
Delirium Club was pretty hot”

A few students
residing
in the
school
library
silenced
Paige
with
a warning hiss
.
Carrie stopped reading Joanne Harris’s
The Evil Seed
and looke
d at her friend. She started
wonder
ing
what Jay saw in her.

“How do you know about Jacob
?” she asked
in a whisper
.

“Me and Jay saw
you leaving
the club together”
Pai
ge closed her algebra book and moved towards Carrie
and
asked
in a whisper:
“So how was it? Is he a good kisser? Or maybe you’ve already…”

“Shut up” Carrie
hissed, feeling that she is blushing
“We
were
just danc
ing
and after that we sat next to his friends. We
were
talk
ing for a while
and then Jacob drove me home and left”

“Yeah, right, watch out or I
can
believe you”

Carrie sighed. She  had no intention of telling Paige whole truth. It’s terrifying to think what would happen if Paige
told
the whole school about it
.

Carrie returned to her
lecture of Joanne Harris’s
The Evil Seed
and noticed this fragment:

Their seed is everywhere, dormant, like a poison tree under the orchard, their roots quartering the earth and spreading like maggots into the minds of men. The evil seed may lie sleeping for a hundred years, before it wakes, shaking the snow of winter from its face and looking up into the sunlight. The ancient priesthood knew how to stamp out the seed of the night; they burnt it and buried it in stone and lime, but still it lived, in memories, in tales, in song. Every child who has longed to be Cinderella or the Wolf Boy, every young man who has dreamed of raising a dead princess with his kiss has sown the night’s seed, Proserpine’s underworld seed which grows the blood-red fruit.

Desire.

Interesting, she thought to herself.
It
says about vampires
and what if what I saw yesterday wasn’t a hallucination at all? What if Jacob and his friends
were
really hid
ing
some kind of secret?

Additionally she was worried
about one other thing. Someone stole
her diary…

Chapter 4

Honestly I don’t  know why I started writing this diary. I nev
er had the desire to fill sheets
of
paper with
the pointless scribbling but
nowadays there are a few thin
gs I want to share with
without anyone to share them with..

My name is Carrie And
rews. I’ve lived in Knoxville since I was born
and I can’t co
mplain as it’s a wonderful town
but at the same time I can’t find in it a place which I coul
d call my own. In real I feel that I
belong to a different, darker world…

Blake started becoming impatient. He
th
ought that Carrie was different
and he wanted to
know everything about her: her preferences,
who her friends are, where she hang
s
out… All of it could  potentially reveal that the girl was un
ique. Blake didn’t know what that uniqueness was
but he felt  that it would
be useful and could help  the Dark Star to
take over the world.

He turned the page and resumed his lecture.

Jay is the best bas
ketball player in our school and he is handsome
but at the same time
he’s
not my type. He’s to
o muscular and doesn’t have that “something”. He’s been chasing me for two years. I really don’t know why
as he’s dating Paige Blackmore, the
most empty-
headed and shallow girl in
our
school. I don’t think I’ll ever understand it.

Jay Dalton and Paige Blackmore… I think those are the two friends with whom she went to the Delirium Club. Maybe we could use them to
o
? Lilith would appreciate  more
victims…

Blake continued
reading
Carrie’s diary and stopped at Friday

s entry.

I went with Jay and Paige to the Del
irium Club. I didn’t want to go
but they insisted and insi
sted… it was driving me crazy.
It wasn’t that bad.  I liked the music and the club, although I don’t know about the people
.

A
t one point in time he came to me. He was dark, tall, handsome and mysterious. He introduced himself as Jacob Morton and a
sked to dance with me. I agreed
as I couldn’t res
ist the charm of his green eyes
which reminded me of emeralds on
the necklace I got from my dead grandmother.
They seemed to have hypnotic powers.

As we started
dancing
I felt something similar to a delicate vibra
tion. I didn’t know what it was
but I didn’t like it at all.

When the song ended I’ve met Jacob’s friends. He intro
duced them to me one by one:
B
lake, Aidan, Zack and Mikaela.
They seemed
to be
okay at first
  –
like normal people – but after a while I
had mixed feelings towards them
and they got stronger when Mikaela gave me a
phial
of
a powdered d
ark crystal. I left them as quickly a
s I could,  as I didn’t like the
se people at all
.

Blake smiled under his nose, all the victims he lured to
his hangout reacted this way.
They could have tried to do someth
ing once they became suspicious but no.
Humans are so weak, Blake
thought
to himself
and noticed another note under the one he was just reading.
