TYRANNY

Two cities are known to have experienced a tyranny: Korinthos, Sikyon. Thus 7 percent of the cites for which there is regime-type information experienced a tyranny.

One region contained at least one city governed by a tyranny: Megaris-Korinthia-Sikyonia. Thus 3 percent of the regions contained at least one city governed by a tyranny.

KINGSHIP

Twelve cities are known to have been governed by a king: Amathous, Argos, Axos, Idalion, Kourion, Lampsakos, Lapethos, Marion, Paphos, Samamis, Samos, Soloi. Thus 43 percent of the cities for which there is regime-type information were governed by a king.

Five regions contained at least one city governed by a king: Cyprus, Argolis, Crete, Propontic Coast of Asia Minor, Ionia. Thus 13 percent of the regions contained at least one city governed by a king.

DEMOCRACY

There is no evidence for democracy in a Greek polis during the first half of the seventh century.

SECOND HALF OF THE SEVENTH CENTURY

OLIGARCHY

Thus 49 percent of the cities for which there is regime-type information experienced an oligarchy.

Nine different regions contained at least one city governed by an oligarchy: Black Sea Area, Attika, the Adriatic, Argolis, Ionia, Megaris-Korinthia-Sikyonia, Italia and Kampania, Sikelia, the Aegean. Thus 23 percent of the regions contained at least one city that was governed by an oligarchy.

TYRANNY

Ten cities are known to have experienced tyranny: Epidauros, Korinthos, Korkyra, Leontinoi, Leukas, Megara, Miletos, Mytilene, Sigeion, Sikyon. Thus 24 percent of the cites for which there is regime-type information experienced a tyranny.

Seven different regions contained at least one city governed by a tyranny: Argolis, Megaris-Korinthia-Sikyonia, Akarnania, Sikelia, Ionia, Lesbos, Troas. Thus 18 percent of the regions contained at least one city governed by a tyranny.

KINGSHIP

Fifteen cities are known to have been governed by a king: Amathous, Argos, Idalion, Kourion, Kyrene, Lampsakos, Lapethos, Marion, Mytilene, Paphos, Salamis, Samos, Soloi, Tenedos, Thera. Thus 37 percent of the cities for which there is regime-type information were governed by a king.

Eight regions contained at least one city governed by a king: Cyprus, Argolis, Syria to the Pillars of Herakles, Propontic Coast of Asia Minor, Lesbos, Ionia, Troas, the Aegean. Thus 22 percent of the regions contained at least one city governed by a king.

DEMOCRACY

There is no evidence for democracy in a Greek polis during the second half of the seventh century.

FIRST HALF OF THE SIXTH CENTURY

Thus 53 percent of the cities for which there is regime-type information experienced an oligarchy.

Thirteen different regions contained at least one city governed by an oligarchy: Akarnania, Black Sea Area, Argolis, Attika, the Adriatic, Ionia, Megaris-Korinthia-Sikyonia, Italia and Kampania, Spain and France, Lesbos, the Aegean, Sikelia, Boiotia. Thus 33 percent of the regions contained at least one city that was governed by an oligarchy.

TYRANNY

Two different regions contained at least one city governed by a democracy: Black Sea Area, Megaris-Korinthia-Sikyonia. Thus 5 percent of the regions contained at least one city that was governed by an oligarchy.

SECOND HALF OF THE SIXTH CENTURY

FIRST HALF OF THE FIFTH CENTURY

Ten different regions contained at least one city governed by a tyranny: Sikelia, Karia, Thracian Chersonesos, Akarnania, Ionia, Aiolis and Southwestern Mysia, Italia and Kampania, Propontic Coast of Asia Minor, Lesbos, Black Sea Area. Thus 26 percent of the regions contained at least one city governed by a tyranny.
