Xavier Lee

As soon as I stepped into the lobby I
saw Tori and immediately felt irritated. I knew that she was there waiting on
my but I was not in the mood to deal with her.

I figured now was a perfect time to go ahead
and let her know that we were done so that I didn’t have to worry about these
surprised visits anymore. No sense in prolonging the inevitable and I didn’t
need her doing anything stupid. The second she saw me walking through the door
she stood up and walked over to me dropped a bomb.

“I know you act like you don’t have time for
me anymore but maybe you need to find some because I’m pregnant and whether you
feel like it or not we need to talk about it.”

What the hell, did she say what I think she just said?
“You’re what?” I asked.

“I’m pregnant, and yes it’s yours
before you even ask.” She said clearly prepared for my reaction.

“There is no way you’re pregnant.
Hell we haven’t been together in over three months so if you are pregnant it
damn sure isn’t by me.”
Hell the
servicing between us had been one sided for a while now and I was the one on
the receiving end
so she had to be
damn crazy to claim that I got her pregnant.

“Really Zay?” She asked evidently not
happy about my response. She must be crazy to think that I would believe that
she was pregnant. I may not know a lot but I know that if you were four months
pregnant then it would be pretty obvious.

“Yeah really.” Was all I said.

“So you’re going to just assume that
I would lie about something like that, for what, why would I lie?”

“Why wouldn’t you?” I shot back at
her. I was fuming and I felt hot all over. This girl was crazy if she thought
that I would believe her.
Hell I used a
condom every single time even though she kept trying to convince me that I
didn’t need to, there was no way she was pregnant
.

“If you need proof just ask your
girl. I left the test with her.” She said with more attitude than I needed from
her right now.

“You did what?” I asked after I
realized what she had just said.

“Yeah I paid your little princess a
visit today and we had a heart to heart about you me and this baby.” She said
and placed her hand over her stomach that was just as flat as mine I might add.

“Are you fucking crazy? You told Ky
that you’re pregnant. Have you lost your damn mind?” I knew I was yelling but I
didn’t care. Everyone in the lobby had all eyes on us but that didn’t stop me.
“I swear on everything that’s real that this better be a bad joke.” I said and
pointed my finger in her face so aggressively that she actually stepped back.

“It’s not a joke and she didn’t seem
real thrilled about it either, so I guess you’re happy reunion isn’t so happy.”
She said clearly feeling pleased about what she had done.

“Get out of my face.” I yelled, “You’re insane but I should
have known that from day one.”

“Call me whatever you want but this
right her”, she said and then pointed to her stomach, “is as real as it gets so
it’s you and me whether you like it or not. Take all the time you need bae
because I’m not going anywhere and neither is this baby.” I looked at her and literally
wanted to wrap my hands around her neck. It’s like she was possessed. She had
to be as crazy as she was acting.

“If and I do mean
IF
by
chance you are pregnant and by me, then I promise you this, I will take care of
my kid but there will
NEVER
and I need you to hear me
NEVER
be a you and me. So you can cancel that.” My temple was throbbing and I felt
like my head was going to explode. I turned to walk away but she couldn’t leave
well enough alone so she followed behind me this time softening her tone.

“Zay, I’m sorry, can we please talk
about this. The only reason why I went to see Kya…” I turned around and cut her
off. “Do not say her name. You are so beneath her and the sad thing is that you
actually thought that you would ever be anything more to me than just a late
night call and quickies in the back of my Jeep.” I laughed. “Whatever this was
has been over for a while now, so do yourself a favor and get over it.” I waved
her off and then turned to walk towards the elevator. I didn’t even look back
because at this point I didn’t care what she did. As soon as the elevator doors
closed I punched the wall as hard as I could several times, feeling no pain
because I was fuming. This had to be a terrible joke, there was no way that I
had gotten Tori pregnant and Kya, what on earth could I say to fix this?
I’m fucking screwed!

“Aye man you heading to the café?”
Chaz asked as soon as I opened the door to our dorm. I didn't say anything I
just reached in my pocket pulled out the key to my jeep and tossed it to him. I
didn't even know if he was going to ask me for a ride or not but I wasn't in
the mood for a conversation so I just gave him my key. Being from Hawaii he
didn't have a car on campus with him and he was one of the few people I trusted
with my ride. I pulled the lanyard that I kept my dorm and mailbox keys on from
my pocket and then unlocked my bedroom door.

Chaz followed behind me and stuck his
head in the door. “Dude, you alright?” He asked sensing that something was
going on.

“I'm straight.” I said.

“Alright if you need anything, I'm
here man.”

“Preciate it but I'm good.”

“Alright well I'm heading to the café
and then right back here. I shouldn't be gone long but just text me if you need
to leave.”

“You’re good.”

Chaz left and I sat on the edge of my
bed and laid back but that didn't last long. I sat up and then propped my
elbows on my thighs and lowered my head into my hands digging my hands into my
hair before I stood up and began to pace. I was restless because my mind was
going a million miles a minute. I started retracing my steps trying to remember
if I had slipped up with Tori and when was the last time that we had actually
had sex but nothing changed. It had been at least three maybe four months so
there was no way.

I got pissed all over again and punched my
door but this time I felt it so I shook my hand and then looked down at it. My
knuckles were swollen and red so I walked into the kitchen and got the ice pack
that I used last time I had a sprain and wrapped it around my hand and
tightened the velcro strap so that it would stay in place. I knew that coach
would kill me if I couldn't play but honestly I really didn't care at this
point all I could think about was Ky. I had to see her and try to fix this,
there had to be a way to fix this.

Chapter 8

Kya Renee

“Ky, wake up?” Toni whispered as she
gently shook my shoulder. “Ky are you up?”

I rolled over and slowly opened my eyes.
It was dark in my room with the only light being the string of Christmas lights
that lined her ceiling. Toni was standing next to my bed looking down at me.

“Yeah what’s up?’ I whispered. “What
time is it?”

“It’s after 10:00 and Zay is here. I
told him he had to wait out there so that I could see if you wanted to talk to
him first. Do you want me to tell him to leave?”

“What?” I asked a still half asleep.

“Zay is here. He wants to talk to
you.” Toni said again.

I looked at Toni as if she were a
stranger but then I finally pulled it together. “He can come in.” I said and
then sat up. I scooted back against the wall, pulled my knees to my chest and
then crossed my ankles.

Toni left and a
few seconds later Xavier was standing in my door way. He had on dark gray nylon
wind pants that were dragging the floor and gray hoodie that had Spartans
printed on it in blue and gold letters. His hands were in his pockets and he
looked stressed.
No point in looking
stressed now. You made your bed!

“Sup?” he asked as he stepped into my
room.

“You tell me.” I said sharply.

“I didn’t know Ky.” He said getting
right to the point. He kept his hands in his pockets but leaned against my
desk.

“How could you not know your
girlfriend is pregnant?’ I fired back I was starting to feel like I couldn’t breathe
again.

“She’s not my girlfriend, never has
been and I didn't know because she didn’t tell me. Besides I don’t believe her
anyway. I haven’t been with her like that in forever so if she is pregnant it can’t
be mine.”

“I’m not doing this with you.” I said.
“You want proof it’s in our trash can in the kitchen so good luck with your
little ready-made family.”

“That shit doesn’t mean anything to
me and she probably had one of her trifling pregnant friends take the test for
her. I’m telling you there is no way she’s pregnant by me because if she was
you would know it by looking at her. I haven’t been with her like that in
forever.”

“That’s between you and her all I
know is you got some stuff to figure out.”

“Come on Ky, do you really think I
would lie about something like that?”

“What I know is that she felt the
need to show up here with a nasty behind pregnancy test and guess what it
said?” I yelled. “Positive!”

“Ky I'm telling you...”

I cut him off before he could finish.

“Honestly I don't really care. It's
always something with you. You do it every time but it's my fault because I let
you. So it's on me for expecting you to be something that I know you can't be.”

“That’s fucked up Ky.” He raised his
voice.
Is this idiot really getting mad
at me?

“This situation is fucked up.” I
said, scooted forward and slide off my bed
.
How dare you get mad at me because you got some trick pregnant?

“So that's what it is?” He asked.

“Do you even know how I feel right
now, do you even care.” I yelled.

“Shit Ky, If I didn’t care I wouldn’t
be here.” He said trying to stay calm.

“What do you want me to do Zay, just
tell me because I don’t know what you expect me to do?”

“I want you to believe me.” He moved
towards me but I stepped back.

“Don’t touch me.” I couldn’t let him
touch me because if he touched me I knew that I would break and I couldn’t
break. I just couldn’t.

“I guess you have your mind made up
then.” He said.

I didn't say a word. I just looked at
him.

“Whatever man, I'm out.” He said and
then left.

The second he was out of my sight I
finally broke down. Tears streamed down my face as if someone had just flipped
a switch. I crawled back onto my bed and closed my eyes. A few minutes later I
felt someone on my bed and then I heard Toni whisper. “I hate him too Ky. It's
going to be okay I promise.” I could feel her lay down next to me but she
didn't say another word she just laid there with me in the dark. It was our
thing, not trying to fix it just being there and as crazy as it was it actually
made me feel better.

When I woke up the next morning Toni
was still lying next to me and had conveniently found a way to be completely
wrapped up in my comforter. I crawled to the end of my bed and slide down onto
the floor. I walked into my bathroom and looked in the mirror. My hair was
puffed into a ponytail that was barely holding its shape. I pulled the elastic
band off and shook it loose and then pulled it all together again leaving a
curly puff sprouting from the top of my head and a few curls that couldn’t
reach the elastic band hung around the back of my neck. I turned on the shower
and adjusted the water before I went back in my room to get clothes. Toni was
still asleep so I didn’t bother her.

After I finished my shower and
dressed I grabbed my laundry bag and phone. I decided to go wash clothes
because I needed something to keep me busy. A few minutes later I made my way
down the hall and up the stairs to the second floor and pushed the door open to
the laundry room. It was empty but one of the dryers was running. I emptied my
clothes onto the floor and began separating them noticing that I had two of Xavier’s
shirts mixed in with my stuff.
So much
for not thinking about him
. When I was done I opened two washers and dumped
my clothes in along with a detergent pod shut the lids and swiped my key card
to start the washers. I jumped up on the folding table that was in the corner,
slide back until my back was against the wall, crossed my legs letting my knees
fall to the side and then unlocked my phone.

My phone had been silent all nigh so t
I had 3 missed calls from Xavier and two text but I didn’t read them. I didn’t
have the energy to deal with him right now and he would know it because I
always kept my read receipts on.

“Dang who peed in your cheerios.” Devon
said when he entered the laundry room.

I looked up and faked a smile. “Nobody,
it’s just too early to be up.”

“Then go back to sleep genius.” He
said, pulled open the dryer and stuck his hand in side and caught one of his
shirts to see if it was dry. When he was satisfied he picked up the duffle bag
sitting in front of the dryer and pulled the contents out and dumped them into
the bag before he lifted and zipped it.

“You didn’t steal any of my boxers
did you? I know how you get down.” He said jokingly.

“I sure did, got ‘em on right now.”

“That’s cool, I’ll be down there
later to get ‘em back.” He said and then lifted the strap to his bag and pulled
it over his shoulder.

“Whatever man. You know Lex is having
no parts of that. She’s crazy.” I said thinking about Devon’s girlfriend who
had caused a scene about him more times than I could count with the latest
ending with a call from campus security. He was cute and all but not worth a
trip to the campus security office so I didn’t get it.

“You’re right, she’d kill you and me
both.” He said and laughed. “I wouldn’t set you up like that.”

“Preciate it, Dev. I don’t do crazy.”
I said and laughed.

“I’ll let you have it. I’m out.” He
said and left the laundry room.

I was alone again with only one thing
to occupy my time, the crushing feeling that I had been Xavier’s fool yet
again. It made me feel sick to my stomach and emotionally I was all over the
place. Within seconds I was hurt, sad, angry you name it I was feeling it but
more than anything I was mad at myself for letting him back in again only to
let me down the way he always did. I closed my eyes and leaned my head back
against the wall. I had no idea what was next but what I did know was that I
had no plans of seeing or talking to Xavier anytime soon.
